I’ve been fishing for 50 years, and you guys taught me things I will use the rest of my fishing career. You are one of the best instructors I have watched in quiet sometime. Thanks and keep the instructional videos coming!!!
Ya you just changed about 90% of how i flyline. I can't wait till next season to try it all out plenty of time to practice my new knots too lol
I really appreciate that, thank you!
Cesar has so much valuable knowledge, and I’m really glad he was willing to take the time to share some of his secrets with us!
Where are you located?
Thanks for the great content. I appreciate learning about the seagar knot and also about how to properly hook a live bait. Thanks again, great channel.
Great videos bud. I really appreciate the gear and tackle tip videos. Really hoping for some of those on the boat seminars.
Cesar is my Obi Wan Tuna Jedi master. Thanks for another great “fishing academy” video. I always wanted to learn how to properly shoulder hook a fish. 🤙🏼
He really is like a Jedi Master for fishing haha.
Such a wealth of knowledge!
Thank you for the feedback and kind words, much appreciated.
Love these seminar videos! I will be trying out the Seaguar knot on my next trip, can't forget the chap stick!
Loop knot and butt hooking between the fins to use the bone are both great. Great pearls of wisdom video.
Learned a new loop knot and a better way to butt hook a hair! Great info! Thanks for all you do! Woohoo!
Will have to give that Seagar knot a go. Thanks for all the info!
Thanks a lot Cesar🤙🏽 awesome information
Always love watching these to learn more techniques. Mosdef gona try that loop knot instead of a ringed hook!
I have never fished on the west Coast, so all of this information was new and useful to me.
Its my first year fishing i got really into it going on my first 1.5 day in 2 weeks cant wait to put everything ive have learned with your channel i been watching all your videos religiously lately to learn more about what iama need for this trip
Love these tutorials! Keep it up man, your channel is gaining steam. I had to do a lot of research myself when trying to find the best/right gear. I think a good segment for your viewers would be learning how to cast a bait and the boat etiquette on following your bait
Great tips all around. The mono to fluouro and braid to fluoro debate is never-ending. Nice job on the closeup of the knot tying and I will def be trying out the chapstick trick.
Thank you for the great information. I will be using the light line with the bite leader as,I have lost many fish at color with the lighter line. I also learned a new technique for belly/butt hooking a bait.
Great info. Love the comments on the rods and the belly hook.
Thank you! Yeah that fin hook trick is gonna be game changing!
Can’t wait to try that out next season.
That chapstick method was super cool to learn about and I hope to see more fishing seminars in the future
Nice informative video! Cesar did a great presentation and very clear instructions. What I learned in this video.
I learned the ease and quickness of the seagur knote versus the surgeons knot. I will be switching over AND using that CHAPSTICK!!! I learned about the value of using a star drag power reel versus a high speed reel. I learned the difference of using a softer moderate rod versus a fast rod. Maybe my favorite learning was the butt hook!!! I will definitely be adopting some of Cesar’s methods.
Great information, always informative
very informative video, would definetely have to try out the seaguar knot looks very easy and fast to tie compared to other knots. Thanks for all the tips.
Doing almost everything in this video except that belly hook. Very useful
Thanks for the schooling! I learned a lot of important tips.
Learned a new knot and the new fin hook. Going to have to try this new technique out! Great instructional video!
Thank you! I can’t wait for next season, I really wanna try that fin hook trick!
I had a great experience with the Finicky Flyline! The advice provided was excellent, and I learned some new methods that I'm excited to try out. In fact, I was so impressed that I just ordered some chapstick to make sure I'm fully prepared for my next fishing trip. The demonstration of hooking the bait and tying the knot from lighter line to a heavier leader was especially helpful. Despite having been fishing for seven years, I had never come across such a effective belly hook technique before. Thank you for the valuable information, and I wish everyone good luck and tight lines!
Great video. Thank you Cesar.
Thank you for another awesome video! I learned a lot about braid vs mono and the pros and cons of them. That was super helpful and answered a lot of questions. Keep the awesome tutorials coming!
Very much appreciated, thank you for the feedback!
Really glad Cesar was willing to take the time to share some knowledge with the rest of us.
Great video! Loved the chapstick trick , the flouro knot I’m going to practice a lot before next season . Thanks for the tips videos they really help.
Such a good trick, I was really impressed with how much better it sinches down than with moisture as a lubricant!
I learned the whip flash of the bait having the softer rod tip to not stun the bait. Thanks ray love the videos about you knowledge and others to help everyone.
Thank you for the kind words and continued support! Really appreciate it!
Hi There, Great video with Cesar, lots of very nice Info and also great knolage on the line poundage that we cans use for big fish with thiner lines, ill will strat to use that knott, Thak You Gys, Jorge
Thanks for all the tips! Will be sure sure to use on my next trip
Happy to share, I’m definitely going to be trying out some of these tricks next season when I get the chance as well!
Second time i watched this, so informational. Thank for a great video on flylining.
Thank you for coming back for a second round!
Really appreciate the kind words, thank you!
Always good to get new tips and knowledge. Will definitely be trying these tips. Especially curious to try and hook a bait in line with the body instead of across
I’m really excited to try out that trick! I always went sideways through the belly, I think in-line is going to be game changing!
Great tip on the heavy leader and using a j hook with a loop knot
Great video very informative. I learned two new knots that seem simple to tie I’ll be practicing those while watching tv.😂 I’ve been fishing the Graphtech rods which, I believe, are all graphite so I’ll be looking into a composite rod. One thing I wish Caesar had mentioned was rod length my bait rods are 71/2 to 8’. Keep the clinic videos coming 👍
Excellent video! Wow! I learned that I should use a loop knot as opposed to a snell which I've always used. Thanks for the tips!
Glad you were able to gain some value from this video!
I’ve been using the loop knot for the last 2 years while fly lining, and I love how much freedom it gives the bait without having a ringed hook!
👏 Once again another solid video. That seaguar knot is something new to try and looks easy to do while on the waters. Always had issues with hooking bait using circle hooks, never really paid attention to the gap. It makes perfect sense to use a smaller J hook with a bigger gap for that extra space. 😂 As for new videos, it would be cool to see some new recipes with the fish you caught! 😊 Tight lines! 🎣
This was an excellent video explaining all of the mistakes I have been making the last 25 years. I love to see more videos on rod and reel selections.
I wouldn’t say any of the more traditional techniques are mistakes. Everyone has their own way of rigging that works for them.
But these small tricks, will definitely separate you from the rest of the Angler’s on the boat!
Thanks Ray and Cesar. Great video and very informative. Chapstick and the butt hook parallel to body are definitely two tricks I am eager to try on my next trip!
I can’t wait to try that out next season.
So bummed I learned about all this when my season was coming to an end lol.
Thank you for the kind words👊
Ceasar definitely knows his stuff . Really enjoyed watching his teaching videos I've learned a lot. Please keep them coming. Love the break down from hooks to the rods he recommends. Super helpful.
Really glad he was willing to take the time to share some of this info and shed some knowledge with the rest of us!
Hoping to do as many tackle talks as possible!
If you have any subjects you think we should touch base on, please do not hesitate to ask!
I really really enjoyed this video. I've learned a lot of little details that will definitely make a difference. I really liked where Cesar talks about heavy fluorocarbon to light mono making a huge difference.
I never would’ve thought to do that without him telling me that trick, but I really like it!
So much great info, so glad he was willing to do this video!
Ive learned alot watching your videos and now i will definitely be trying/using light line with a heavier leader as a bite guard. Your videos are always informative. Thank you for the time and dedication you put into your content.
Thank you so much for the kind words!
There’s not a whole lot of people who really understand how much work goes behind the computer, so hearing this really means a lot!
Thank you 👊🤝
Hands down one of the best videos all questions answered without being asked, bravo bravo
Thank you so much for the kind words and feedback! Much appreciated!
One again, I learn something new every how to video. Keep up the great work.
Thank you, very much appreciated!
Great video, keep them coming, learned some new knots, awesome content
Happy to share! Hoping to keep capitalizing on these tackle talks for any style of fishing we can think of!
Thank you for your feedback
Chapstick is a completely new concept for me and I always questioned if saliva was enough lubrication to prevent damage to the line. Comprehensive guide on hooking the bait was more than helpful. I will be hooking like that going forward. Thank you for sharing this
Amazing info Ray, definitely using the lighter mono to heavy top shot and the knot 👍🏼
The Seaguar knot is game changing! It’s impressive how well it holds for lines of such big differences in sizes
This is hands down the best and most informative video I’ve watched yet on this subject.. I’ve always scoffed at braid to mono to fluoro thinking there’s too many connections with not enough purpose.. and surprise! I’m the guy on the rail getting broken off over and over on light line.. with a new knot learned I’m rethinking my whole approach to flylining (already re-gearing my tackle), and hooking the bait in-line with the bait body under the fin bone is something I would have never done on my own.. I have yet to see/hear anyone else doing this.. can’t wait to try it out on the next trip! Awesome segment! Keep em’ coming guys! I’m hooked!! (Pun intended)
Absolutely great tutorial. Step by step. Thank you so much. And waiting for a new ones.
Thank you for the feedback and kind words!
Definitely will be putting out some more future tackle talks for all different kinds of fishing
Great video! Good to know about the long mono main line, star drag reels, light main to thicker fluoro, and soft rod tips! Very good info!
Glad this video helped you learn so much!
Thank you for the feedback, happy to share.
25lbs mono is pretty strong. I had 25lb into 50lbs leaderline and landed a Bat-ray, the wing spread of over 6ft after a 25 minutes fight with my Shimano Bait-runner 6500 back in 2000’s. What a day!
Nice man! Yeah for sure, as long as theres a good amount of line, aspecially with Mono, you can pull pretty hard! That mono stretch really helps add more pressure!
Keep making great videos ray , I didn’t think of that or about having shock top of heavier leader so you don’t get broken off !!
Thank you! So much great info, so glad Cesar was willing to take the time to share these secrets with us.
Bro… the amount of lessons i learned here is invaluable. Thanks Ray for having Cesar on and providing this kind of content. Tight lines brotha!
It’s been awesome having Cesar apart of the channel to share his knowledge! I’ve learned so much from him over the past year.
Tight lines brotha, thank you for the kind words!
Loving the tackle talks with Cesar! Going to pick me up some chapstick and start practicing the new knot!!!😂
I never thought about using chapstick before this, but seeing how much better and cleaner it can synch down than using moisture is really impressive!
Great video. Can’t wait to try that connection knot. A video on setting drag would be great.
Assume Video!!Thanks for putting this together. As a newbie planning my first tuna trip, I learned so much and cant wait to learn more! Great info like this lessens the "tuna" mystery. Cheers!!
Hope you get to put these new tips and tricks to test this season! Best of luck to you this year!👊
I learned a lot from this video from the chapstick trick to the way he hooks the bait in the belly thanks for the good content 🤙
Thank you for the feedback! Really glad you found so much value from this video!
Great info .. thanks Ray and Cesar!!
Happy to share, thank you!
1:47 Tying the Seaguar Knot for a F-50# to M-25# I believe is going to be a game changer for getting bit! I did a screen record and added it to my Fishing Photo Album so I can always be able to access the info out on the water to enable tying the knot correctly. I also loved the Chapstick addition. I would like to learn more about when to fish which lure. From ghost popper to flat fall to Stick bait. Thanks! 👍🏼
Damn What did I just See.... MIND BLOWING BUT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE. ....Can't wait to try this method
New fisherman here. Just had my first bluefin excursion. A bust. Wish I had watched this first. Love all the content.
Excellent informative video. Always learning something new.
Really appreciate that, thank you for the feedback!
Thank you for the info, the reasons he hooks bait where he does makes total sense and i have never seen that. Also the rod information I needed to hear because i am looking for a new set up
I had never seen that fin hook trick either, I can’t wait to try that out next season!
Glad this video was helpful for you, thank you for the feedback!
going to start using that knot, i have never heard about that one till now. also like the use of chapstick
The seaguar knot with chapstick, learned something new!
So game changing! I was impressed how much better and cleaner it synched down with the chapstick.
I learned that you could use a heavier fluorocarbon for abrasions resistance similar to how you use it when fishing spinners and jigs for salmon and steelhead in the rivers. Some useful knot tutorials as well. Wouldn’t mind more knot talk and their uses.
Great video, thanks for having these videos with Caesar. I always learn a lot, this time I learned about fishing lighter mono and a heavy flouro so you can have that bite guard. I also learned that it's better to use small j hooks as opposed to mutu hooks which is great because I struggled alot using mutu hooks it was hard for me to hook a bait with those.
Yeah the J hook’s definitely help pin the bait on a lot faster! I do still prefer circle hooks, but it took me awhile to get comfortable with pinning a bait with a circle hook fast enough without hurting it too much
This was a great video. I am going to learn the two knots and also try the longer mono. With a short heavy floracarbon. I had heard of using chapstick but always forget about using it. Also have alot of star drags that I never really use. I do use softer tip rods. The hooking baits makes perfect sense I can't wait to try all the tips in this video.
Thank you for the feedback!
So bummed my season was coming to an end when we filmed this lol. Now I have to wait till next season to try all these new tricks
Wow, learned a lot. It’s the small details that matter. Im definitely gonna swap try the the segar knot and loop knot.
The small details that differ you from the rest of the Anglers on board is always a big added bonus!
Awesome video , this season I caught my first Bluefin tuna and wish I knew about Seaguar knot & the chap stick trick . Also I was using Circle hooks wish I used j hooks instead. Thanks for all tips keep the videos coming.
I wish I knew all of these small tips earlier this season too, I’ll just have to wait till next year to try it all out!
Circle hooks still work fine, just takes more time hooking the bait. I personally prefer circle hooks for tuna fishing
I learned some knew knots that I will probably apply to my daily use. A video I would like to see is one going over your entire bluefin arsenal and what you like and use each setup for. I love your videos and have learned so much from watching them.
Lucky for you, I already have full bluefin break down covering the basics of the 5 rods I take.
Hopefully in the near future I will do an update video though!

Thanks, I am absolutely setting up my Single Speed Star Drag Saltiga for fly line fishing.
I love my Saltiga star drag for fly line and casting! Such a nice reel
I learned so much from Cesar . He’s an asset . Love the show . Thank you guys for posting
Thank you for the feedback! He is such a wealth of knowledge! So honored he is willing to take the time to share these things with the rest of us
I learned all the different line sizes and the hook sizes. I always knew this was important but never really knew the specifics. I would love to see another tackle breakdown about your arsenal and what you like each setup for. Love the vids keep making them.
I definitely will have to do a new updated version of an offshore arseanl video!
I covered all my set ups I take off shore in this video, but I’ll do an update this next year!
czcams.com/video/gevNj2Y1Ep8/video.htmlsi=btzlsdhH4c2roi7Q
Great video. I love the "Crazy Alberto" for braid to mono and the Surgeons Knot for fluro to mono. 100% success.
I’ve been doing the RP knot (Improved Albright Knot) for my braid to mono/fluoro connection for years. And the Surgeons knot for about a year for mono to fluoro, but this Seaguar knot is definitely going to be replacing the Surgeons knot for me from here on!
love the video, Ive been doing all of his tips for a few years now.
Cesar has so much valuable knowledge!
So glad he’s willing to take the time to share these tips and secrets with the rest of us!
I just wanted to say thank you, you have helped me expand my fishing knowledge. When I tell my friends about your videos they look up your channel and expect a normal dude who films his fishing. No, you help teach me and others about how to catch fish. And even though I’m just a kid I think that your videos are going to help me catch 4x the fish. Thank you!
Always happy to share and help wherever I can!
Thank you for the kind words, very much appreciated!
If you ever have any ideas or subjects you think I should touch base on, please do not hesitate to ask! Open to any ideas!
I learned a lot! Especially bout the spool weights! Imma pick me up a star drag fanthom !
The knots are a good trick I am going to remember to do when thing get finicky. Thanks guys for the tricks
Happy to share. I can’t wait to try out some of these tricks next season!
YO I came from Benjies channel from the live tuna tips you guys did tonight I learned about well the finicky line. I’m very new and a kid and the line and hooks would be some helpful stuff for some future trips! Next time maybe talk about setups for offshore fishing and maybe routines you have while fishing! Love this video already and I’m looking forward for future videos!
Thank you for tuning into the channel! Really glad you were able to find me through the live stream with Benjie!
Hoping to do an updated arsenal video come this new year.
Until then, if you check out my “Tackle Talks” playlist, the “what’s working right now” videos or “Offshore Tackle Breakdown” videos is all offshore recommendations from this past season
Thanks Ray and Cesar. Great video. I learned at least 3 new tactics that I'll be adding to my arsenal. I'll start with a longer Mono top shot and change my live bait hooking method. Great job Cesar. I hope to see more of you in the future. Maybe show us how you catch Calico's off the rocks. :)
Thank you for the feedback! So much great info provided in this video, I can’t wait to try some of these new tips next season!
Possibly, just covering calico fishing overall, but off the rocks is a little tougher just because you have to cover a lot of ground
Definitely going to try the Seaguar Knot on my next trip. Thanks !!
Happy to share, and I was truly shocked how strong that knot holds up! Super easy and quick too
amazing info, thanks, very informative!
Learned a lot thanks for sharing this awesome video!!!
Happy to share! Hopefully will be doing more tackle talk videos throughout this season, so if you ever have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to let me know!
Love the loop knot, thanks for the clear instructions, going to save me a lot of money from buying ringed hooks. Very good thorough video, maybe next time show the best way to cast the bait?
Nice video and great info. I will take your suggestions and apply them over here on the East Coast nothing under 50lbs line, more like 80lb, our tunas run in the 50lb-100+lb so 20lb lines won't work for the tunas. But we don't use live bait much here, just chunk and jiggs. we also have to have a 100 yard mono top shot on head boats.
Interesting! What part of the east coast are you located at?
Good job Cesar a lot of good and new technique. I just learned I was by the shop today I just missed you we need to fish. I would love to try the opsin Flora carbon
Chapstick on the fluorocarbon I've had to many breakoffs at connection because I burned the knot just using spit thanks for the tip and I will be trying out the bite guard for sure💪🏽💯
Wow I was mind blown watching this video . His knowledge is incredible .
So much great knowledge! I’m so glad Cesar was willing to take the time to do this.
Great lessons makes so much sense best lesson s I’ve had in along time
Definitely the best seminar I’ve been able to sit in on and learn from!
These last few Vida with Ceaser. Like the previous comment. 30 years on the water. Amazing what I didn't know!!. Great stuff! Learn a lot!!
Thank you!!
It’s truly incredibly how many small details and tricks he knows that the average angler would never know!
Can’t wait to try out these new tips next year!
I loved the whole video.
I've always run a super long top shot, but not knowing how beneficial it was. Thanks for the explanation.
Also the "getting bit firts, and then worrying about landing the fish" comment. Makes total sense. I'll be looking for a glass rod for fly lining now
Really glad you found value from this!
I learned so much about fly lining from Cesar this night, can’t wait to try out these new tricks next season
Dude,I've always had trouble with hooking live bait. You have made it very clear..thanks my man..much appreciated!!!!!!
Really glad you were able to find some value out of this! Hope you get to put these tips to the test soon!
As a newbie, planning my first tuna trip, this video was epic! Learned so much with so much more to learn. I'M HOOKED!! Thanks for putting this together, Cheers!
Happy to help! Hoping to put together a lot more tackle talk videos throughout this year as well! If you have any topic ideas you think we should touch base on, let me know!
Thank you for the feedback and kind words, very much appreciated!
I struggle when casting a medium sized sardine on my Okuma Cavalla 5N with 20# mainline and a 3 foot floro leader. Used a bunch of different brand braids and the issue remains, simply cannot cast further than 8 feet from the boat (rod is 7 feet, medium heavy graphite).
I've been given many different answers by many knowledgable anglers: 1) mainline braid sticks to itself too much to cast such a light bait, 2) rod not long or flexable enough, 3) leverdrag reels suck at flylining compared to star drag or spinning reels, 4) it's "normal" to only cast 8 feet max with flyline.
I bought a few rubber baits the same size and weight as medium sardines. Casted the baits in a park with baitcaster reels and got a 20 yard distance on average. Would hate to have to give up on leverdrag reels though for flylining, they're so convenient if you're pro enough to calibrate your drag before setting sail.
There’s no need to retire your lever drag, lever drags still work fine.
The only issue, is by not being able to have a pre set free spool like a star drag, it’s easier to backlash your reel.
When casting a live bait, it just takes A LOT of practice. 20yds is a pretty good cast for a live bait. Just takes practice.
Took me about a year or so to comfortably cast a belly hooked bait, and am always looking for new tricks or tips to improve
The most valuable thing I learned from this video is definitely the knots. I’ve been looking for a good mono to fluoro connection that is both strong and easy to tie and I’ve finally found it! The loop knot has always intimidated me for some reason but this was the best explanation on how to tie it that I’ve ever seen. In the future, I’d like to see gear reviews if possible. In the past, you kinda did this with the Lexa; now I’d like to see how your other reels perform and hold up and which you’d recommend to people
I’ll do my best to cover some videos like that in the future!
It would be cool to go over what reels I recommend for what types of fishing.
Thank you for the idea, and feedback.
Very much appreciated!
Learn something new ever upload keep up the good work and thanks for posting!
Thank you for the continued support man, really appreciate you!
Wow, this is a great video. I echo what other comments have said, been fishing a long time but never even considered this.
So much great info in this video! Can’t wait to try out all these new tips this season!
Awesome video. Definitely will be applying what I learned in this. Mono top shot to heavier flouro leader is new to me. Also, loved the explanation on how to properly hook the bait. I’m surprised you didn’t the specific Phenix Rod you recommend.
Thank you for the feedback, very appreciated! Even though we both fish for phenix, we never feel the need to push product at anyone like a salesman. Everyone has their own preference when it comes to name brand, so covering the basics of what rod one should be looking for was more important
Awesome video. Wish I would have seen this sooner. I never knew about the chapstick method for cinching a knot. Great idea Thanks D.H.and Caesar!!!
Happy to share! I too wish I knew about this sooner, but I’ll be ready for this season!
@@Dirty.Hookers I am a new subscriber to your channel from the Bay Area. It’s a whole different animal going out of San Diego for BFT. I met Mikey at Point Loma from his Fish n Sips channel. He’s a cool dude. Hope to meet you one day.
@@jaimefernandez3076 hopefully we’ll get to cross paths and share the rail in the future!
Tuna in general are a whole nother ball game to target, but I do agree some of these bluefin are just MEAN!
Best tips video i ever watched. Your reasoning behind every tip was on point. Changed my fishing habbits for the good 👍.
Thank you so much for the feedback, very much appreciated!
Glad you were able to gain some value from this video. I can’t wait to try these tricks out next season!
@@Dirty.Hookers yeah, normally I run straight braid to a 3 foot leader, but mono makes sense. Already put topshots on my reels. Even the bait hooking under the bone was 👌
@@diegomelendez2001 that one I’m really excited to try! It’ll be game changing to really be able to cast a belly hook bait!
