Stick with Yo-zuri jerk baits, 6 3/4" size. All colors worked: cotton candy, wacky macky, sardine, mackerel, purple/black, black/chrome, and bone color. All my lures were floating. I took extra hardware like trebble hooks and split rings. Some anglers use flouro as a leader, others prefer mono. Some use 50 lb. titanium wire. If you decide to use wire, buy the Knot 2 Kinky brand. It's single strand, and it's reasonably priced. Don't forget crimps and small tuna rings. These are powerful fish, it's why one needs power handles on their reels. The fish hit hard enough for you to lose your grip on a paddle handle. As for the lures, these fish punish the hell out of them. I had a new jerkbait literally get destroyed on one fish. You're more likely to have one destroyed than you are to lose one. In two trips, I've only lost one bait. Most times, I've replaced trebble hooks due to them getting bent, but sometimes you have to use a new lure. If you decide to take Shimano jerkbaits, replace the hooks. They do not stand up to these fish. That's why you go with Yo-zuri, they come with much better hooks. Sometimes you can straighten out the hook anchors, they do get bent. But sometimes the lure will not swim properly anymore, so you rig another one. I take no less than 15 jerkbaits. Better to take extras than to need them and not have them. On another note, some guys did catch them on surface iron. Good luck on your trip and be safe.

So I was wondering when you wash ur reels when u get back from a trip do you swap the mono? Or do you wash it with the braid under? Or do you take off the mono but don’t cut it wash the braid and wind all the mono in? I’m just asking this because I’ve always gone very short top shots
