    Just want to ask if you could make a video of how a good swimming jig should look in the water. Not 1 single video on CZcams that shows people what a good swimming jig looks like. I think a video like that would be great.

    • @jigslingersfishingchannel3713
      @jigslingersfishingchannel3713  Před 4 lety +2

      Bayron Ortega Great idea! Generally you want a surface iron that has a wide side to side action with the occasional kick. They all swim differently so test yours when you fish. Vary your speeds to see how fast you can wind and still maintain that action without it spinning or breaking the surface.

    When I nose hook sardines they always circle back to the boat. When I'm soaking a sardine for a long time, they continue to pull line off the reel and it looks like they are swimming straight out but when I reel in the bait it looks like the sardine swam in a big arc. Any additional hints?

    Hey dude! I was wondering if you prefer conventional reels over baitcasters for flylining, and what the advantages are for each one.

    • @jigslingersfishingchannel3713
      @jigslingersfishingchannel3713  Před 4 lety +2

      Lucas Scott Conventional over baitcaster for flylining if you have that option. I’ve used baitcasters to flyline in situations where there’s nothing else available.
      Advantage for conventional reel is backpedaling without hindrance from the baitcaster frame. Just more open space to do it. You can also move the handle position without engaging the gear.
      Advantage for baitcaster would be the ability to cast smaller baits effectively.

    • @jigslingersfishingchannel3713
      @jigslingersfishingchannel3713  Před 4 lety

      Trinidad Durazo Will you be using it for bait or plastics? I have a 908mh that I use for plastics and poppers with a Daiwa Lexa 300. If you’re planning to use bait I’d say any small conventional reel would work.

    • @tjdurazo
      @tjdurazo Před 4 lety

      Jigslinger's Fishing Channel I’m thinking as a live bait rig. It’s rated 15-40 but is rather soft and parabolic. I’m very new so I am completely open for advice and suggestions. Thank you very much

    • @jigslingersfishingchannel3713
      @jigslingersfishingchannel3713  Před 4 lety +1

      Trinidad Durazo Personally I’m not too crazy about that rod as a bait rod. The Phenix Axis 820ml would be better. Having said that it’ll definitely work. Use a light conventional reel like a Daiwa Saltist 15/20 or Fathom 12. Some small and like to balance the rod. Great for flylining bait from 15lb-30lb line.

  • @alejandroalejandro9792

    Sweet video! Do you prefer full spectra with floro or some spectra to mono then floro leader for live bait?

  • @dmarin1980
    @dmarin1980 Před 4 lety +1

    Another important tip I think is being comfortable with the gear you are using. If your are a newby and cant cast with a conventional reel, than it really doesnt matter if you pick the a good bait. Id say start off with a spinner reel. I have also noticed I prefer reels with lighter spools like any baitcaster (lexa or tranx) or trinidad, etc...

      Mc Filthy Mc Nasty With your skills you wouldn’t need a good bait to get bit. You probably wouldn’t need a bait at all.

    • @jigslingersfishingchannel3713
      @jigslingersfishingchannel3713  Před 4 lety +1

      Mc Filthy Mc Nasty Sounds like you’re trolling from your comments. If sincere then like I explained in the vid...casting away from the boat is required for fishing the downwind side of the drift. Even on the right side of the drift getting your bait away from the boat quickly increases your odds of hooking up.

    • @jigslingersfishingchannel3713
      @jigslingersfishingchannel3713  Před 3 lety +4

      ioncb Great question! This is what I do when I get a bite:
      1. Let the fish take line in for a few seconds (how long depends on how big your bait is)
      2. Put the reel in gear and wait until the fish has pulled line taut.
      3. Lift rod tip up to set hook (I use circle hooks most of the time but this works with J hooks as well)
      No need for big hook sets like you see on TV shows. 👍
