Nice review! I have a 2013 Optima with the 2.4l liter engine that has 230, 000 miles and is still going strong. I commute 85 miles each way daily. Other than oil changes every five weeks and basic maintenance, I have never had any issues and just put the second set of replacement tires on at 220,000 miles. I plan on driving it until it leaves me sitting on the side of the road.

That's great to hear! I suppose aside from the recalls associated with the GDI Turbo engine, they're very solid vehicles.

Yes, one at 100,000 miles and another at 200,000. I have had the front and rear brakes done once also. Other than that, just oil changes every 3,750 miles and coolant flushes and drive belts every 60,000. I will definitely buy another Optima.

@@edwardschildtknecht52 I really appreciate the replay! I have a 2012 Optima EX with 175k (engine replaced at 105k). I do a lot of driving for my business and uber occasionally. I change my oil, brakes, and minor repairs myself, but I've yet to do a transmission change/flush and she seems to be running really well. I was just inquiring to see if it's worth doing at this point or just letting the old oil stay in there.

I have a 2015 Optima SX turbo, paddle shifters(I never use them lol), heated and cooled seats, pano sunroof, navigation etc. Bought it new with less than 100 miles on it to use as a commenter car. Only thing I’ve done to this car is oil changes. I had a turbo oil feed line fail couple months ago(dealer repaired for free) and so far that’s the only issue I have had and I’m at 93k miles. I do all my own maintenance work on every vehicle I own and stay on top of it. I don’t regret the purchase at all. It would be a fun car to mod if there was a larger aftermarket support for it performance wise and was at least AWD.

I have a Korean built 2011 Optima ex-t, bought it for $12,000 back in 2012 with rebuilt title, but was repaired already. Right now I have 100k miles and has been ultra reliable. I have never changed the plugs or back brakes yet. I have had it since it had around 3,500 miles, every repair I have done I can list. Brakes (front twice) second time was 6 months ago. A brake sensor switch was bad 6 months ago and was $9 for part and I put it in myself in about 5 mins. Replaced battery once about 4 years ago, had Turbo linkage adjusted 1 time about 8 years ago($80 at dealer) at same time I had the dealer replace a transmission temperature sensor since there was a recall) I had to pay since I have no warranty but was $120. Replaced headlight bulbs and fog lights once. Also recharged ac once about a year ago. Tires twice and replaced passenger side CV joint because boot ripped, that was back in 2013 and could be from original accident. Then a few months ago someone while parked backed into the front and lower grill and bumper cracked, bought a pre painted bumper cover online for under $200 shipped off amazon. Right after that my front CV went bad and mid shaft, one that connects from CV to transmission. That was $1200 repair but I had shop do it. That is all I ever did to this car and still drives like a new car. Heated and air conditioned seats work perfect, all electronics, leather is perfect, not one crack.

Trust me, it is- I got my 2012 Optima EX as a high school graduation gift from my father. He bought it new in 2011, put 136,000 miles on it, and gave it to me. It was in my childhood, and I love it to death. I’ve so far put another 10,000 miles on it. Has the original engine, transmission, suspension, etc. It is regularly maintenanced at Kia dealers. Extremely smooth steering, comfortable leather seats, incredible stereo system, and it has some get up and go, too! I put my foot down, and it threw my back in the seat (mind you, it isn’t the turbo version either, it’s the 2.4L). Perfect first car!

@J O the mileage is consistent, it sounds like the previous owner used the vehicle for travel with that many miles. I would also check to see how many owners had the vehicle, and lastly I would take it to an independent mechanic who would be able to tell you if anything is wrong with it. Dont take it to a dealership chain, and make sure you ask for a full prepurchase car diagnostic and a suspension check. A car with that many miles is gonna have some kinda issue, I wouldn't pay more than $2,000 for it, $2,300 if it was perfect.

my 2013 Kia SX has only 43K original miles on it and I bought it brand new with 10 miles.. At about 35K the trans started to shift Very roughly after starting. After about 5 miles it would start to shift normally. This occured mostly when it was cold outside but also in the summer months on occasion. Kia inspected my oil last year early 2019 and said everything checks out and then congratulated themselves for providing me a " Free Oil Change"! What Bullshit. They FKD up these engines with metal fragments from the camshaft or some other half ass cheap work quality. I brought it back to them advising them of same problem. They said for us to inspect your car you need to pay 200.00 up front. If it was determined that it was a manufacturer defect after insp I would be reimbursed.
