  • After replacing the the steering rods in the front, the toe links in the rear and getting new tires, it was high time to get an four wheel alignment done on the Land Rover Discovery 3. (Tracking)
    I would't even know where to begin, thankfully my go to mechanic Håvar got my back. Jaguar Land Rover - Nardo Bil.
    Like most I can't afford getting new wheels every season so getting the alignment correctly done is super important.

    Well how many main dealers will let you film their master technician performing his magic... fantastic! Well done Håvar! 👏👏😊

      That’s very true! I’m truly thankful for the help I have gotten at Nardo bil and for letting me film. Would love to film more if they will let me. 👍😊 Maybe they need a New Defender video out overlanding. 🤞😂 Håvar is awesome and really glad to have him as my personal mechanic. 👍😊

    You can’t drive those lovely wheels into mud Simon. Your Disco looks smashing now👌🏻😎

      @robertdrum6857 Hehe, it's made to be used. And thank you, the Disco is starting to look like a proper overlander now. 👍 Not safari spec like your 90 but not bad. 😉

    I’m in America and we refer to that process also as an alignment. I watch videos from the UK and they call it “Tracking”. It took me awhile to figure out what they were talking about. Your wheels and tires look awesome! Thanks for the video!

      Thank you Jerry for info, I didn't think of that! My english is definitely American inspired from movies, series and working as System Developer, so American English is what's comes natural and therefor the words as well I think. 😊 Would have to add the word tracking to the title I think. 😊 Really happy with the wheels and tires, I'm looking back even longer now when I park the car. 😂

      Back in the old days the front suspension/steering only allowed one type of adjustment, namely the toe-in toe-out. This adjusts the track width of the car. Adjustment was made by lengthening or shortening the track rod ends (tie rods to you).
      Hence why in the UK its known as tracking.

    I can’t believe how rust free the underside is!! Nice truck!

      Hey and thank you! There are some bad area that need sorted, especially at the rear. I had it coated underneath when I first got it and I think that has helped it a bit. But see the next video and you’ll see some bad areas. 😉

    D3 Looking very smart. I will be getting mine aligned next week once I have the MOT completed. I had to recalibrate my steering angle sensor yesterday as it was out due to all the new suspension components on it. Looking forward to getting mine back up and running again 😊love your black wheels. I was thinking of changing mine back to silver again but I think I will keep them black 👍

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  Před rokem +2

      Hey Simon and that is good news. Will be a big milestone done when it's got it MOT and back on the road. 👍 Happy for you! 🤗 The old Disco still has a bit of shine left when it get washed properly. I should really do it more often. I had never had that issue before so was a bit surprised when it happened. 😅 I really like a two toned colour setup on cars so the all black wheels is what I like the best. Silver is nice and works much better with your colour than my red.

    I have those same tires on my F350 dually..I am sure mine are higher load rating with max psi at 80 but they have been good tires

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  Před 8 měsíci

      Dually is so cool 👌 You rarely see that over here in Norway!
      I tried to find the highest load rating for my size, but the sizes are a bit limited with the Discovery, if you want to keep it legal. 😊
      Good to hear they are holding up, I hope I can have them for a good five seasons with 10-15k km per season.

    Great to see those chunky tyres on with the black wheels looking really good. Looked spotless after the clean, I bet you cant wait to go and test those tyres.

      Thanks man, I really love how it turned out and so happy with the choice of going a bit wider with the 265. Offroad test coming soon to the channel, I got to go and test them out in a off-road area together with Erik and his RRC and I was blown away by how good they were. 👍😊

      Thank you very much! 👍😊 Tried to show as much as possible to give people an idea of what goes into doing a wheel alignment and why it can take some time. I was really lucky that my camber was within spec, didn't want to start loosening those rusty bolts. 😅

    The Norwegian wheel tracking experts look more brain surgeon than wheel tracker. Which is a good thing.
    3:24 PS: For rear camber, the wheel must be taken off to adjust the bolt in Discovery 3.

      Hahaha, is is really smart, so definitely a good thing. Only mechanic, besides Erik, that I would allow to work on my car. 😊 Good thing is that Håvar also drives a Discovery 3 so he can really relate to the car. 👌 And he is a level 4 Land Rover technician, I believe it's called, so both "of the books" qualified and "on the books" qualified. Thanks for the camber info, good for people who comes here to watch and learn! Best, Simon.

    Have you changed steering knuckles?
    wheel alignment. Did you change levers?

    • @LandRoverDrive

      I changed the steering rods, outer rods that goes from the steering rack to the wheels.

    Wow Simon...not sure I'd get a free clean at my local tyre and tracking centre!
    What was the issue/fault with the Steering Angle sensor and how was it fixed?

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  Před rokem +1

      Hehe, Håvar is a good mate so get a bit of extra service. Also have been using them for a while. 👍😊 Since the steering wheel was so much of after the things I have done, it needed a recalibration after he had adjusted the steering wheel. 👍

  • @exxbootneck
    @exxbootneck Před 4 měsíci +1

    As I don't speak your language so I can't tell what the technician is doing when he firsts plugs in his tablet.
    Step one should be to tell the car to put the suspension in to Tight Tolerance Mode. TTM.
    This will stop the suspension auto correcting/compensating any changes made by the technician as he adjusts the geometry. Otherwise you will be chasing the error all day.

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  Před 4 měsíci

      Hey Dave and you are spot on. Håvar, the tech, has been doing this for years and he has owned a D3 him self for more than 10 years.
      Can’t recall if I got it on film what he did but he knows what he is doing.
      Been driving for almost two years since this was filmed and all is well. 😊
      Why I love to have him as my personal mechanic at the LR workshop. We met through the Norwegian Land Rover club. Great guy who willingly shares advice and tips about my D3. 👍
      Now I maybe need some new shocks in the rear, feel the rebound is getting worse and worse. 😅
