So basically all it needed was a high speed balancing. Glad you have it fixed!
It needed balancing *after* all the new components were installed. The lower control arms were bad, for sure. The other work is not money lost, I'll be relying on this rig for tens of thousands of miles, I chalk that up to preventative maintenance. Now for the drivetrain and rear suspension... Future Mark can deal with that. hahaha.
@@ShiftyDrifty at the end of your videos can you put up the price and possibly total cost of parts? As well I hope you do videos of the rest of it too! Great videos!
@@Raylep1 the parts are linked in the video description. 🙂
I enjoyed the wheel wobble videos. My thought in the first video was I bet those black steel wheels are wonky. Thats a known issue some of those steel wheels are so badly made they can’t ever get balanced right. Glad you got it all dialed in and have the most valuable thing. Peace of mind.
So glad you finally got it sorted (after I just followed your saga). It's amazing what a road force balancer will pick up vs. a regular balancer. Thing of note is to find yourself an independent shop for work. I've worked at dealers and independents and when modified cars came in the dealer usually wants nothing to do with it.
Great Job Mark! I always get a alignment when doing anything to the suspension. Overlanding is a great way to get out into the remote areas in the ogg-grid. But making sure the rig can do it without hassles such as breakdowns is equally important. Keep it going. I love overlanding and will not trade it for anything. Tactical Overlander (thinking outside the box in a shtf scenario).
Thanks so much! I'm in Mexico now having fun with the truck. It's not perfect, but it sort of is.
Good progress Mark.
Nice that the dealers recorded what they were looking over. Land Rover dealers would not do that here in the UK
I tend to take mine to specialists, heading out to LRC 4x4 in Congleton, UK tomorrow for some work. They always take good care of me and the Landy. Dealers should get it right first time... they need to step up honestly.
Looking forward to seeing your trips coming up. Followed you from the photography content.
Thanks 👍 They also recorded the work they did, but I got the video too late to be included in this edit.
Maybe it’s the dealer you go to?When I take mine into my dealer (Sytner) they always record it and send me the clip.
Awesome! Good stuff ! Man would you help me with mine? Good stuff
big shot out to you from jamaica love the videos great love those lr4 they very popular out here koooool
Thank you!!
Last month i brought a 2016 that had a thunk.
I do a lot of my own work but no suspension tools and not the time so i took it to LR
What did they find?
Great content. I have a '11 D4 with a small wobble also.
My wobble is very minor now. I took a ride in a friend’s Toyota overlanding rig and his wobble was a lot more pronounced. I think it’s just the tires giving the last little bit of vibration.
I am doing the same on all control arms and replaced center hubs , I own 1/2 & 3/4 Milwaukee impacts didn't budge nuts I also a 3/4 breaker bar still nothing , people say use saw all I chose grinder with 7inch metal cutting abrasive disc it took 4 disc a bolt to do front control arms, I still the rear to do , that will be the real challenge my 07 lr3 still had EOM parts when done with suspension it should feel like new hopefully with new tire sizes 275x65x18 mickey Thompson legends exp tires, I also will be installing defender ladder and gear storage box over rear window
The tire balance is often the problem. You have balance it all 10000miles.
Hi I have an 2013 LR4 160000 miles, still going good but I have not taken it off road.
Get it off-road! The LR4 is a great car if you take care of it. I'm approaching 200,000 miles on mine.
I should design and build a blinker that requires fluid to flash. That would be hilarious.
Hahaahahah
@@ShiftyDrifty I hope your trip is going well. I would love to get together with you and Mannon the next time you are in town. For the blinker, I am thinking about using a servo to push a hydraulic cylinder that pushes another switch that then makes contact for the blinker to energize. Basically inserting a tiny hydraulic cylinder in the middle of the system. I will sketch it up and make one for your channel. It would be a great gag gift.
hahahaha. Blinker fluid switch. brilliant.
i have the tuffant steelies on my LR4 and havent got them to balance correctly yet... i may have someone road force balanced to see if that helps
Also try different lug nuts, and be very particular when you torque down the bolts. The steelies are not centered by the hub, but the lug nuts. So, it’s not so great. I’m thinking of replacing them next year.
It's only for 30000miles fixed 😁 I have the identical problem often fixed on my LR4 😉
Hahaha. Well, I guess that’s half the fun of owning an LR4. Lots of time fixing stuff. Hahahaha
i wonder how much the dealer charge & what they do
Is it just me or is there a significant wheel wobble at 12:45...?
Dont want to be a Naysayer but if my legs were under there i would have a large wooden block / sleeper in there in case those axle stands collapsed …. It wouldnt be the first time this kind of thing happened …
True! We did have 3 of the wheels still on the truck + 2 jack stands. I felt safe with that setup. But you can never be too safe, next time I'll add a bit more.
Out for a ride one day and stopped by a friend's home unannounced.
His legs were sticking out from under his Corvette, there's not a lot of room underneath 😞
The jack had fallen over and got the lead sled off his chest.
His wife was in the house and I don't think he ever told her
