    hello, nice to see you again in another ABBA song
    there is much to say about
    "One of us" (1981)
    1) It is a beautiful song, it has a soft melody and melancholic lyrics that allow Agnetha to shine with a very sweet voice, and a catchy and harmonic chorus
    2) was ABBA's last big hit, #1 in several European countries and #3 in the UK (last Top 10 of their 18 in a row between 1975/1982)
    3) recorded at the end of 1981, the two couples were already separated (Agnetha & Björn almost 3 years ago, Benny & Frida a few months ago)
    4) the official video is very good, it shows Agnetha (with a more mature beauty) acting sober and convincing rebuilding a love life from a move
    5) In my opinion it is together with "Slipping through my fingers" the best song from their latest album "The Visitors" (until the return of ABBA in last 2021) where the melancholy and rawness of his lyrics is most pronounced in the context of a complex album of musical exploration away from ABBA's signature pop, and an image of the four singles over the two couples
    You didn't reaction to
    "Chiquitita" at UNICEF Concert 1979

    Abba, sang about the complexities of relationships. Winner Takes it All - the divorce, and now the separation, the regrets. The two couples Benny & Agnetha, Björn & Anni-Frida ended up divorced. They wrote and sang about the experiences of life, and lyrics tell the story of that experience.

    Don't worry Tysheen, the one hit misconception is a common mistake made in the US. The other 95% of the planet have been immersed in ABBA's music for the past 50 years - the second biggest selling band in music history. And lucky you, you still have a long way to go working through their fantastic catalogue of 20 worldwide number ones and many, many other stellar tracks. Enjoying your journey.

      @@Ana_Lysera yes, 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 9 number 1's in UK lol. Another indication of their impact would be that their collection album ABBA Gold has been in the top 100 UK album chart for 1034 weeks (yes you read that right) and counting. Was number 13 at end of 2021. Now that's success.

    The song is also one of my favorite ABBA songs. The apartment really does look like the one in "Happy New Year" and the wallpaper... that was very modern at the time. We (my parents) also had it on the wall.

  • @Flatwoodsdad
    @Flatwoodsdad Před 2 lety +14

    Thanks for the ABBA. The apartment belonged to Lasse Hallström he's the young directer who did about all their videos. It's used in a few of their videos. Pretty sure this was their last hit single. I really like the song too. But seems kinda cruel of Bjorn to have her sing it after their divorce. But to be fair Agnetha loves songs like this. I don't think you've done "The Name Of The Game" bet you'll like it too. It's one of their most complex songs. Both girls have lead sections, lot's of tempo changes and it keeps building the backup harmonies till it's all just perfection. Wish you'd react to " No Doubt About It" off their new album. It's really overlooked a lot but Frida tears that song up. Anyways thanks for humouring us ABBA fan's. You know at least you didn't have to wait 40 years to find out their story end's happily.

      I'd say "No doubt about it" is a very challenging song for women. Very few women reacted to it. Maybe much like 10cc's "Dreadlock Holiday". Very few, if any African Americans reacted to it.

    The fabulous ABBA....a favourite track of mine, alongside The Winner Takes it All. Despite the upbeat tempo, this is a sad song. My chief 'criticism' of Benny and Bjorn (the songwriters) is that they portray everything in songs like these from the point of view that the woman has somehow failed. Never heard an ABBA song suggesting the men have been at fault for any relationship failure. It's a pity too that Agnetha Faltskog (the blonde) is largely recognised as being just a member of ABBA, when her voice was a big reason why they were so successful.
