    This video is showing how you can roll combustible foodstuffs into the surface of clay and let it burn away i Themisn leaving a nice eroded Surface to play with... Happy potting!
    Another thing that im involved with that you might like to look at is @potterybrunch club - its a monthly zoom pottery workshop taught by me but with the delightful addition of a proper meal chucked in made by @beththefreerangechef...
    We deliver your pottery kit and food to within 10 miles of Holt, Wiltshire, UK and then we all gather via the screen for a fun pottery workshop, normally on a Sunday morning or a Thursday evening. All the work produced is then dropped off here to me to be fired and collected about a week later.
    Its always fun and you can even join us as a REMOTE GUEST if you just fancy being part of it even if you are the other side of the world... Obviously you will need your own food and clay but its nice to be part of a little tribe and yu get me live teaching you! Just think about that... ❤️👍🏼🙌

    I really enjoy your videos. As a sort of newbie only five years in I’m always searching for more. More ideas, more technique, more innovations. You bring all of that to these videos in a easily understood no pressure way that is easy to digest. Thank you.

    I think you’re fab, love listening to you and learning. The embedding of the organic foodstuff it right up my street, love experimenting with materials. I’m 61, just started a ceramics class, although it’s not the first time I’ve used clay, I did learn some basics on throwing and coiling many years ago. Now, I want to learn and as you say, it can be a mindfield, so, I need to learn first how to be patient. Thanks for your time and lessons, great to watch. ❤️

    Dried coffee grounds work well, too. For better or worse, though, the tannins might interact with the glazes.

    I’m a microbiologist and the end results look a lot like bacteria growing on a Petri dish!
    Would be lots of fun to recreate different bacteria’s using clay!
    Would there be any way of having them raised instead of indented?
    Some bacteria likes to puff up
    I think I have a new project idea!
    Thank you!
    Loved seeing the finished product in the video as well 😊

      Yes sure - great idea - just fire the tiles as normal and then press soft slabs of clay onto the indentations left in the bisque fired tiles - I have done another video explaining how to do relief stuff in clay - its the same process... good luck! 👍🏼

    Fantastic surfaces treat video !Far out very super cool. I was thinking off wedging like rice material into the clay and was worried about cracking but what about cooking it a wee bit wedging it in and the rice will shrink with the clay as they both dry... have you tried wedging these in?

    • @JaneScottCeramics
      @JaneScottCeramics  Před 3 lety

      Hi there, sorry for the very late response i have been on holiday! I say wedge it in and go for it - it probably wont crack much, especially if you use a groggy clay - bung it in and see what happens… 👍🏼

    • @carlasmith2105

      @@JaneScottCeramics They are what goes into a "bb gun" rifle as ammunition. It's a solid copper ball .04 mm round. I don't know what they are called where you are. I'll look into it and see if I can define them a bit more.

    • @carlasmith2105
      @carlasmith2105 Před 3 lety

      @@JaneScottCeramics I looked at one gun store and they sells tons of bb's but none were made from copper. Here in the US they are sold as copper. The rifles/guns are used to hunt birds or such. There is no gun powder. They are propelled by air hence the name air gun. They are not to be confused by airsoft gun which shoots colored ammo.

    • @JaneScottCeramics
      @JaneScottCeramics  Před 3 lety

      Ooohh yes i know what you mean now! 😃. You can shove any copper stuff into clay and it will give a black - green effect. With a glaze obviously that will react with the copper - wire and chunks of copper tend to just go black and a bit crispy - definitely worth trying though 👍🏼

    Hi Jane, I used the rice and it did bake out when fired, however, when out of the kiln, the rice indentation’s were really sharp. I tried rubbing them to smooth the edges but it didn’t work. I will try the split lentils next! Any tips would be really appreciated. x
