  • 762 'Lyn' hard at work on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway on Thursday 10th September 2020.
The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway opened in 1898 and was closed in 1935. It is one of the most famous and picturesque narrow gauge railways in the UK. Originally running for 19 miles, today the current Lynton & Barnstaple Railway operates over a 1 mile section of track from the beautifully restored Woody Bay station to Killington Lane Halt. However this small railway has big ambitions as they are currently undergoing plans to extend the line further along the old track-bed.
The current Lynton & Barnstaple Railway is a beautiful piece of railway heritage with authentic L&B coaches and locomotives in the shape of 762 'Lyn' which is a replica of the original locomotive that was scrapped when the line closed in 1935. The railway is a true credit to the volunteers who are keeping this historic route alive, well worth a visit!

An excellent video of a fine engine, clearly in the hands of an expert crew - no smoke and no blowing off, and it sounds to be in perfect condition. Thank you.

This railways is almost exactly like the puffing billy railway in australia, the loco looks exactly the same except for a few changes like wheel configuration. They even have the exact same garrat class as puffing billy!

I joined the railway society last year but I’ve never been... I hope I can in the future, as it’s a long way from where I live.
    Looking forward to it expanding.
I’m a full time staff member of a heritage railway in Scotland... standard gauge but narrow gauge rules 🤫

On list for early visit when lockdown lifted. Passed the gate several times over years. Wish I’d stopped. Looks beautiful - both scenery and train.
