  • Spending a weekend in Porthmadog, of course I had to visit the famous Ffestiniog Railway.
The railway reopened earlier in the summer once lock down restrictions had eased with a restricted timetable of 6 trains a day from Porthmadog to halfway up the line to Tan-y-Bwlch.
A total of 4 locomotives were in operation during my visit, recently restored George England ‘Welsh Pony’, Double Fairlie ‘David Lloyd George’ and Penrhyn Quarry Railway locos ‘Linda’ & ‘Blanche’
This video shows all 4 locos working at various points between Porthmadog and Tan-y-Bwlch, filmed on Friday 18th, Saturday 19th and the morning of Sunday 20th September. Sunday afternoon I spent riding the 14:20 service to enjoy some of the breath-taking scenery of Snowdonia national park.
An utterly amazing railway with stunning scenery and friendly staff & volunteers, I can’t believe I haven’t visited before until now, can’t wait to return next year and hopefully see even more!

Narrow gauge passenger cars don't have toilets, right?
