- Iceberg formats have been around for a while, but if you need a refresher, it is a format meant to sort information from most well known all the way down to the depths of information that may surprise you and me.
With the help of some friends, I (No More Fielders) went ahead and took an iceberg made about MLB lore and broke it down bit by bit.

I’m surprised Ernie Shore isn’t on here.
The only man to retire 27 batters without allowing a hit, walk, or HBP and not be credited with a perfect game.
Why? Because Babe Ruth started the game, waked the first batter, punched the umpire, and got tossed. Ernie Shore was brought in to relieve Ruth and after the runner was caught stealing 2nd, retired the next 26 hitters in a row.
No perfect game but it was the first combined no hitter.
what about errors, no hit, walks or hbps and 27 batters retired and no perfect game

Technically reachint base on a strikeout wild pitch isnt an error. Jon Means threw a no hitter where the only runner to reach was on a strikeout. And he immediately got caught stealing so it was a 27 batter no hitter with no BB, Errors or HBP.

Man that Rangers fan falling to his death is heartbreaking. Imagine going to a game with your son, trying to catch a ball for him all falling over. Then you have the son who watched his father die. Just horrible and awful.

I was in attendance in the Houston game where Almora's foul ball hit the girl. In fact, I can be seen in the video footage used in this video. Where the camera is located, there is a tunnel that runs under the stands. For several innings after wards, Almora would come the the well to get updates on the little girl. He was devastated.
The sad part about Pete Rose gambling was that he was gambling on his team to win and was losing bets often.

That was the issue. Like Jordan leaving the NBA... You cannot afford to have someone in your game who owes the mob money. They will eventually come for you.
None of that matters. If you have ever bet on baseball you know you can't "just bet on your team to win." You have to bet on a point spread. Even if you "bet on your team to win" you are betting that they will only win by a specific amount. By default that means Pete Rose had a financial incentive to make sure his team didn't score so many runs that they blew out the other team. That means if he bet his team would win by 1 run he would lose if they won by 2 runs. With baseball in particular you can't just "bet on your team to win." If that were the case you could bet on the Dodgers to win every single game. You would be wrong sometimes but it would be a guarantee that at the end of the season you made a profit. That means the people accepting the bets would know they are guaranteed to take a loss. No one will ever allow anyone to bet like that. You have to bet on a run differential which means Pete Rose may have wanted his team to win but at the very best he didn't want his team to win by very much. That in and of itself could have created losses for the Reds. There is no such thing as just "betting on your team to win" when it comes to gambling. The only people who say that are people who have no idea what gambling actually is. Gambling is running numbers. It has nothing to do with winners and losers.

Michael Jordan's season wasn't disastrous, he led his team in RBI's. It was a good piece of work, and it was his first year!
I like to believe that if Jordan had pursued baseball like he did basketball starting at a young age he could’ve had a good career in the majors. They always said he took it super seriously and really wanted to get better

@@code5175 AA but still when people say he was absolute garbage you have to think about the fact he probably hadn’t played competitive baseball like that for probably about a decade. If he pursued it instead of basketball he definitely could have made it it to the majors and had a good career.
Always thought Pedro caught too much heat for throwing him to the ground. Pedro was just strolling up, not fighting with anyone, just being there for his teammates, he singled Pedro out and ran straight at him, Pedro even looked around and you can see him mouth, “what?” And in the moment he tossed that dude past him, he could have done far worse. Know your age and act it, your an old ass man trying to fight an elite athlete, but bc your old he’s just supposed to let it happen. Pedro didn’t do anything wrong.
That's what I thought at the time it happened. These were two grown men. Don Zimmer was a baseball lifer. He knew what it meant to get in a scrap and the moment got the best of him. And Pedro wasn't going to allow himself to get hurt.
im relatively new ti the baseball scene, but he took heat for that??? like sure if Pedro charged at the guy i would understand, but he was obviously defending himself from a grown man, hell even once hes down it looks like he still wants a piece of Pedro lol
Regardless of the people who think Pedro shouldn't have done that, Zimmer started it. Don't start nothin, there won't be nothin.
IMHO, I feel like it's just a bad look all around. Pedro could have taken a step back.

Crazy how good Trout was before the injuries. Still think he is one of the best if he can avoid them which he hasn’t been able too the past few seasons. Sucks because people already forgetting how good he is and was. I really hope we get at least a couple of more healthy Trout seasons before he retires. Truly one of the best to ever play.
I did know a good majority as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a home run. And so that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame. Of these , great video

Holy shit, was that Jeter's actual dWAR??? Dude was a liability.
He managed to more than make up for it at the plate, but yeah. Beyond basic plays and his infamous jump throws, the guy was a butcher. Kind of like Chipper Jones.
Baseball Doesn't Exist does a great video on how Jeter is not only overrated but one of the worst shortstops ever.
@@SamtheBravesFanBill James wrote an article a number of years ago about the difference between Jeter and Brendan Ryan IIRC (comparing him to a guy who was, by all defensive metrics, an average defender). Looking at plays featuring balls hit to essentially the same spot on the field, at the same velocity etc etc, the plays Jeter just barely made with his jump throws were typical put outs for Ryan, who was able to get to the ball easily and set his feet before throwing the runner out by plenty.
To put it simply, Jeter looked a lot better than he was because of how bad he actually was.

personally i think the 2020 season might’ve even the hardest season to win. everyone had the same advantages and disadvantages. not only that but it was raw baseball. beautiful and underrated year.. i just wish the dodgers didn’t win it that season.

Whoever was reading level 7 was reading straight from Wikipedia in a lot of places, which was especially noticeable with the first story about Darnell Stenson that just ended without explaining what the “elaborate scheme” was. It was possibly a hit put out by an ex-girlfriend, for those curious.

The 1994 season also had Matt Williams on pace for 62 HRs, Griffey for 58 HRs, and Maddux for 12.6 (pitching) WAR season....which would've been the 3rd highest ever for a pitcher since 1900 through today.

It's funny how people always forget about Boston OTHER late game error and that passed ball which contributed equally as much to them blowing game 6 as Buckners error did. Dude deserves some grief for bungling an easy play, but the other people should be remembered also.

Trout has honestly only been Healthy for 4 of his 12 seasons. Has missed significant time every year since 2016. Definitely will be the greatest "What If" in Baseball along with Griffey. Still crazy that Griffey got to 630, don't think Trout gets 600. He might not even get close.

You got the Oakland stadium situation so wrong. The Howard Terminal site project is still active and only a City Council and County vote away from shovels hitting the ground. It’s miles ahead of the Vegas baseball efforts which are 9 months removed from when the site and renderings were supposed to be revealed and there haven’t been any reports of a Raiders deal. I’ll give you props on calling A’s fans one of the most dedicated fan bases in baseball but next time please do more research.
