Highlights of Tony Lockett's 10 goals vs Adelaide rd 22 '1991 which inculdes #100 plus an Interview with Lockett and Coach Sheldon after the game Bonus - gem of a goal from Nicky Winmar ENJOY!
5:04 - 5:12 Nicky Winmar, at incredible speed, under hot pursuit, flicks the ball forward at ground level, then scoops it up high, catches it, and then passes it like an arrow to Lockett. Winmar!! You star!!
Ooooah...Nicky Winmar! One handed split-second clean whippet-like pick-up of the spinning ball off the turf under pace and pressure and then superb delivery! What a legend!
More strange synchronicity. I played with Dean Greig (#27) in 1990 @ Camberwell (VFA) under Gary "Barrell" Brice, & he was in my dream last night, & randomly, we put some Tony Lockett clips on tonite for my brother's Chinese father-in-law, and here was Greiggy starring... Spooky, man...
Good to see Pies fan appreciate the big man. My favourite Collingwood player of all time, Peter McKenna, was also big fan. 1991 stands out as one of my most memorable years being a Saints fan. I was 15 years old and got to see them make the finals for the first time.
Look i have always been a west coast supporter but Lockett was a favourite to watch and in my opinion the greatest forward along with John Coleman. Could easily have kicked 170 plus with a full year and who knows possibly 190 counting finals
Was brilliant wathching footy back then. No one will ever hold a candle to Big Tony... Glad he never went to the pies.... Just a pure goal kickin machine..
Those were the days!!Fuck I loved watching Lockett wreak havoc on a Saturday!! The team sucked but every week you had the feeling you could see something incredible!
Phenomenal full forward, legend of the game. But don't count out John Coleman, played in a low scoring era & won the league goalkicking award in every one of his completed seasons, 5 years in a row. Had to retire before he even played 100 games, had not yet reached his peak. If you compare other full forwards in their 1st 98 games, they don't come close (except for Hudson, but he had already played 4 seasons of senior football when he came to the VFL). He was like nothing else seen before, fans would change ends each quarter & follow him (from both teams). If you compare stats in the first 98 games, Coleman 540 odd goals in a low scoring era, Lockett 380 odd goals in a high scoring era.
Yeah, Ablett's cheap shot was the reason Nathan Burke had to wear a helmet for the rest of his career. Even though he (Ablett) was one of the most most skillful I've ever seen play the game, I'm kind of glad that dog never got a premiership medallion. Not sure if the '91 Sainters would have matched it with either Hawthorn or the Eagles in that finals series if they'd beaten Geelong. However, it makes for an interesting footy hypothetical.
Champion. Best AFL player of all time.

Skill level in 1991 far superior...to today's 👁️ AFL
