@J G The A league is struggling Attendance numbers are way down. It peaked in 2014 However Junior Soccer participation at a club level is huge far more kids play soccer than afl. But it will never surpass AFL at a pro level in Australia The AFL is massive and forever expanding
@J G What's that statement got to do with his comment mate? It may be played in 240 countries but soccer will always be a boring, soft as butter game played by a bunch of overpaid girls. A-Leauge has a very long way to go to become more popular than AFL. Attendance numbers per year says it all the AFL had a total of 6,750,000 for 2022 with an average of 32600 per game. A-Leauge however could only manage a total 896,000 with an average of only 5600 per game.
My father used to say anyone who deliberately used his elbow as a maiming tool in footy should be rubbed out for a long time. He should know...an elbow ended his footy career when someone caved in the side of his face and he almost lost his eye. Only positive for Caven was he left Sydney when Lockett went there. He won two flags with the Crows. Plugger cost the Saints at least two flags by continually being suspended
Not just through suspension. He demanded the lion's share of the Saints salary cap and kept threatening to take the offers of massive money being thrown about by the Pies, Dons and the Blues. The Saints mortgaged the farm for Lockett and were left with nothing to show. He was just plain greedy.
Cavo, the man who dethroned the King. The amount of goals that Adelaide scored from his running bounces from the backline. Not an all-out prodigy, but a contributor to our back to back flags all the same.
I really admired Caven after this incident. Looking at the replay, watching him running back with the flight of the ball towards the full forward position, he must have known he was about to cop it.
And then NSW beat the Big "V" in 1990 - with the "Horse" Longmire kicking 8 goals. I believe Ablett, Lockett, and Brereton lined up for the Vic's in that game. Not that anyone in NSW cared - I know I did, it was a big thing for the code.
@M massive in more than 240 countries? Maybe you should get your hand off it and check that only 210 countries actually have a fifa ranking and I would certainly say that in a lot of those countries soccer is certainly not massive.
I still think Lockett was protecting himself , 8 weeks was harsh , saw him play twice , every thing about his kick was , from the hold to the kick through was close to perfect. Only mckenna kicked better.
The only thing that cost him was raising the elbow. He wasn't charging out on the lead to flatten Caven he just got to the ball first so had to brace for contact.
in this report it states "if he had been playing rugby or soccer he would of been sent off" the thing is HE WASNT REPORTED AT THE TIME but i guess why would that fact stand in the way of this beat up of a news story
LOL at the bimbo saying that "injuries like that happen all the time in football" Yeah, because broken faces are, or were, a common occurrence in the game. Right up there in hilarity with the woman saying she was "concussed" after having a football hit her on Channel Seven.
loved watching footy when it was like this but footy players are ten times tougher now a days than ever. king hits aren't tough. plugger says that he was a thug that could play a bit. is embarrassed about this kind of shit. still would love someone like him at richmond
@@ianburton8050 yeah, sure cleaned up his act. There was nothing tough about him, just very big and hard to get around. He sure dished it out if anyone ever challenged him, but he had the size so it was easy. It was a kind of mindgame. The bizarre thing was he won a Brownlow, one of the least fair players ever. But certainly one of the best. Barrassi and Whitten never came close to a Brownlow
I remember that one where plugger caved in cavens head. I loved watching him play, so what if he was a bully and a thug, he could still play footy. The AFL has taken this type of player out of the game, which is a shame. I hate cheap shots behind play etc but if you wanna run back into the spot on a lockett on a flat chat lead, you're not only a hero, but could be a broken one with it
HAHAHA, hows the old dude blaming Caven for not knowing how to protect himself lol
@J G The A league is struggling
Attendance numbers are way down.
It peaked in 2014
However Junior Soccer participation at a club level is huge far more kids play soccer than afl.
But it will never surpass AFL at a pro level in Australia
The AFL is massive and forever expanding
Who are you calling the old dude?
@JG-bw6luthere isn’t 240 countries on the planet.
"Oh that's vicious, vicious! Peter Caven has just head-butted Tony Lockett right on the point of the elbow"
Uncle Arthur said it well
hahahahaa, young blokes nowadays have absolutely no idea how good aunty Dawns fruitcake is.
Dont you miss the days of having a footballer that was feared by opposition players?
What an absolute icon of the game. The game loses out when honest men like Lockett are driven out..

i reckon peter caven thought he got hit by a truck because i could imagine getting hit by lockett would feel exactly like getting hit by a truck
When a big bloke whacks a smaller bloke that isnt prepared for it, they announce themselves as a coward.
Wish the likes of Lockett and Ablett Snr were around I today's game.
They'd be in their sixties!
I love the old blokes, nah! Tony is alright , it's everybody else - soft is what they are ha ah ha ah

Ya father sounds soft
I want to marry those two girls

Not a raised elbow though. You expect the hit running back with the flight...not to have your face smashed in by a thug.

Ablett and Lockett didn't play in that game. Just Brereton
lol didn't he go to Sydney?
4:06 hit is the best, coolest fucker ever, mad dog muir
he was a thug but fuck he was good
I still think Lockett was protecting himself , 8 weeks was harsh , saw him play twice , every thing about his kick was , from the hold to the kick through was close to perfect. Only mckenna kicked better.

@@raffarmenio6213 you are spot on
Yep, no raised elbow, no eight weeks. He meant to hit Caven in the head. Clear as day.
barassi is a hypocrite.
They thought AFL was soft back then 😂
i know! imagine they saw it today
i thought the reporter was tom cruise lol
haha harsh but true, i see a resemblance
I’m related to tony Lockett
Bring back the biff !
in this report it states "if he had been playing rugby or soccer he would of been sent off" the thing is HE WASNT REPORTED AT THE TIME but i guess why would that fact stand in the way of this beat up of a news story
Ah well, he is smarter than I gave him credit for ! Would have hated seeing him in the black and white.
Lockett is way better than carey, ablett, kernahan and dunstall. not to mention carey was the most overated player. Lockett is the best ever player
collingwoodrules
You're a fuckwit.
But your username says enough.
maybe in Matty Lloyd's dreams !
Plugger disliked this video because you cut him off at the end!
So unfair about lockett, don't go for St Kilda or Sydney but i think the media did outcast him unfairly and he didnt deserve the hate he got
They hated LOCKETT loved ablett look who ended up being the biggest nut case well done media as usual
LOL at the bimbo saying that "injuries like that happen all the time in football" Yeah, because broken faces are, or were, a common occurrence in the game. Right up there in hilarity with the woman saying she was "concussed" after having a football hit her on Channel Seven.
0:51 Young Matty Lloyd?
Plugger knocked COLLINGWOOD back!!!
About three times. The Saints paid him whatever he wanted and it cost the team overall success.
@frankmat he probly wouldnt but he doesnt have to does he?
loved watching footy when it was like this but footy players are ten times tougher now a days than ever. king hits aren't tough. plugger says that he was a thug that could play a bit. is embarrassed about this kind of shit. still would love someone like him at richmond
Barassi then got Lockett yo play for Sydney in the next year. LOL
But only after reading him the riot act first.
