    Just replaced mine. Ordered the parts from sprinkler warehouse Monday. Parts arrived today. Took about 15 min to replace. Water shot out of release valve like in your video...lol. Thanks for the video. Parts came with no instructions...lol, but could have figured it out...real simple repair.

    This video helped me out. Very easy to do. The only concern was I was turning the water on too slowly that I kept thinking I did something wrong. You have to turn the water on and let it force through so both of the plastic pieces will “ marry” like you said. Thanks!

    Hi Sir! Great video and explained so very well as Texans are known for. I have the exact same issue on my sprinkler system also right here in NW Houston Texas due to the freeze of Dec. 2017....killed a lot of my plants even though I covered them. Oh well. Excellent presentation T.T.T.!!

      Hey there...thank you for commenting! I too lost a few plants this winter, and as luck would have it, I have to replace this thing in my video again! LOL! I think that these things bust so your pipes don't...so I am ok with paying 30 bucks every year or so as opposed to untold thousands for busted pipes!! Take care my friend!

    Yes sir it froze and snowed twice. Once in 2017 and once in 2018. if you want pictures I have them. . Temp got down to 25 degrees in Cypress,Texas for over 8 hours and my back flow preventer went to. This is an observation, but everytime we get a hurricane it seemed to want to snow in this town. My son and I made a custom blanket to go overall the brass body and blackflow preventer to "try" and prevent freezing weather from affecting it.

      Sprinkler Warehouse on Jackrabbit rd. has the OEM repair kit, as well as an aftermarket repair kit for about $20 less.
      Bought the aftermarket kit yesterday and the OEM check valve assembly. Took about 15 minutes to install for a client, and no issues.
      Parts total was $54 and change.

    I recently purchased a home in Houston and this was known to be broken. I'm finally getting around to replace it. My water pressure coming up through the unit isn't anywhere near as powerful as what you're experiencing. It's too weak to push the poppet up into the bonnet like it should. Any ideas?

    • @Thedudenurse
      @Thedudenurse  Před 6 lety

      I would say you could have a leak somewhere. Or perhaps the pressure isn't fully released all the way.

    Post freeze here in Katy, same thing. The big brass piece that is below the bell, mine got a small crack in it, how do I replace that brass housing that you screwed that plastic piece into? Any ideas?

    • @Thedudenurse
      @Thedudenurse  Před 3 lety

      My next-door neighbor went with a rubber piece and got rid of the brass housing entirely. I will take a picture tomorrow and try to upload it on here. Plus I will ask him how he did it (he is a mechanical engineer...I am a nurse practitioner...lol).

      Tap the poppet in a circular pattern with a skrew driver to seat it.

    For anyone thinking about doing the cheap part on amazon, the 2 I've received, neither sealed properly, just get the brand name part. It's quite annoying that the part made to fail (poppet) is almost the same price as the whole assembly, at the moment.

    • @Thedudenurse
      @Thedudenurse  Před 3 lety

      Hmmm...I am afraid I cannot comment on cutting...if you live near a Home Depot or Lowes I would suggest taking a pic and showing it to them...a lot of those guys are really handy.

    I cannot get the first step to come off, that plastic yellow disk that broke off I cannot get it off, any recommendations?

    • @Thedudenurse
      @Thedudenurse  Před 3 lety +1

      If you are talking about the external plastic yellow piece you might try giving a few soft whacks with a rubber mallet...it may help to loosen it up...and/or you can try using WD40.

    • @SwagSoOfficialHuh
      @SwagSoOfficialHuh Před 3 lety

      @inkd_cali86 thanks for your “smart” comment, but it actually doesn’t solve my issue. The yellow plastic is stuck, the rest is pretty straightforward.

    Why do half the job ? Replace the check valve assembly under the poppet also for an additional $20 part. and you have a complete rebuild.
    Many of the issues people have with leaks after changing the poppet are from the check assembly.

    • @Thedudenurse
      @Thedudenurse  Před 3 lety

      Good point. You certainly can replace whatever you feel like spending the money on to do so lol
