      I am in Texas and I am adding a valve with bleeder below ground to my PVB so that I can drain ALL water from the system down to ground level. Drained like u are supposed to last time and the input side of the pvb still froze (bc that’s how it is designed to work). I am improving on the regular crappy design.

    This video needs to explain at the end that once you turn the water on, it will look like the repair has not worked for a minute until the water pressure causes the poppet to fuse to the bonnet. Another video explained this to me after I thought I had failed at fixing the unit. Water will flood out of the unit for a bit, and you should turn on the water supply and allow this to occur before putting the bell back on.

    For those having trouble keeping the Cone spring down, There is a ledge that is shaped like a C. Make sure the metal retainer prongs are facing up, push one side under the ledge. Spin the retainer till the other side will go under the C ledge and spin a bit more till both sides are under the ledge.

    Before installing the bonnet, run your finger around the edge where the O-ring will sit. In mine (from Febco), there was an apparent ridge where the two sides of the injection molding came together. When the O-ring is squeezed against this ridge, it created a pinhole leak that squirted out the edge of the valve when the water was turned back on. I fixed it with a small piece of fine grit sandpaper. I sanded the ridge smooth where the two sides of the bonnet came together - on both sides of the bonnet. I greased the area where the O-ring sits and reinstalled the bonnet. No leak!

    • @alfredoalequin
      @alfredoalequin Před 3 lety

      Yes, the fact that it is design to fail is a blessing. Actually, it means that the removable part fails before the fixed part depressuring the system and protecting the body. If the internal assembly does not fail under extreme conditions, the body will bust complicating everything and making the job more expensive.

    I gave up trying to find any iteration of febco 765-1 backflow, repair parts, bonnet, poppet etc on your webstore. Maybe put a direct link to this specific part under the video. My unit sits at an angle due to foundation backfill settling. If I find the little guides broken on the lower valve, I’m going to conclude water isn’t fully draining during winterization and will add removing the valve and covering the opening when I winterize. I have replaced a bonnet before, but your video was a good refresher. Thank you!

    Fantastic!! After the Texas Freeze my Febco 765-1 broke. I forgot to winterize. Sprinkler guy came out and said no pipes were broken, just the top portion. I watched him get parts and replace what is described in the video. I FORGOT TO ASK HIM THE PRICE UP FRONT. He quoted a whopping $232. I said what!! He go angry and said well if you don't like what the price is, I will reverse what I just did and take my parts off. I watched him take the parts in reverse of how he put them on. He left. I did a search on Amazon and found this part (1" Bonnet Poppet Assem Backflow Preventer Repair Kit Febco 765). After the part came in, I went on CZcams and stumbled across your video. I followed the directions, went to the sprinkler box and turn on the system. IT WORKED!! YES! AND I ONLY PAIDED $51.97

      Jeez, you robbed that guy of his knowledge and his time.
      First time I lost my pilot in the furnace I called the oil co and they sent a tech. He bled the line and fired it up in 2 minutes. Charged 125. Now, I deserved to pay for not doing any research and for the lesson/1on1 training. I got what I asked for after not doing what I could.
      Here I am researching to not get myself in that situation and here you are bragging about getting your cake and eating it too. You didn't beat the system, you jerked some guy around who drove to your house, stole the solution, created a ruckus, and you both had a bad day because of it.
      Look at the damn thing and use your brain before calling service folk!! It has part numbers and shit on it for a reason, and if it's leaking water, it's pretty damn obvious when you're looking for root cause!!

    The only issue I had with this repair was tightening the bonnet. Too loose and it leaks. Too tight and it crushes the o-ring and leaks. It took me about 10 tries to get it right. O-ring was greased and everything inspected. All looked good. For me the tightness of the bonnet was a pretty sensitive HAND ONLY tighten.

    Can't even find those repair parts anywhere. You're lucky you found it at home depot. Looked at walmart, lowes, amazon, etc - all require shipping and won't be here until end of Feb or Mar. So I'm still without water bc that sprinkler Febco part is tied to my main line. I'm caught in Snovid 2021 also, but in Sugar Land

      There should be Valves that you can turn off before and after the PVB, just as shown in the video, without disrupting your main home water supply. Are you saying those valves are missing, or when you turn them off, it also turns off water to the rest of your house?
