The 7.3 is the most reliable engine that ford ever commissioned from international and most will go over a million miles if you do the maintenance and the smart upgrades to the trans and wiring it's a peace of mind thing for those of us who won't let our 7.3's die out and if you worked on the same thing every day would you want to keep looking at that exact thing when you got off?
I agree.. tow mirrors came on my newest 6.0 and I have killed two mailboxes due to the right one being loose and sliding out without me noticing... they are more irritating when not towing than helpful when ya are
I'm honestly a little sad to see the single-shot injectors go, I like the cadence they have. I'm not the one driving the thing for hours on end though. Just happy to see that Spot is going to live to tow another day.
On my truck, that oil dipstick adapter did that shit to me, and I ultimately bit my lower lip and bought that 300 dollar machined aluminum adapter that Strictly Diesel sells which seals in the oil from the outside of the pan rather than the inside. It's been working great so far and I can take comfort in knowing if it does start leaking on me one day, it's easy enough to change out the O-rings without having to pull the whole motor.
I also wanna say Mr. Bill Hewitt ur awesome and great mind when comes to the way u have presented ur material on these vids. I'm a tech been doin it 15 years and now from all ur videos I understand the details of these issues with these powerstrokes. Worked at gm dealer for over 9 of those years now in the Independent world lol. I have the most ultimate respect u and ur guys. I don't do whole.lot of deisel work but it always good to have that knowledge for when the time comes.
Bill H, would be a great idea to find out how to put a Cummins in a 6.4 Powerstroke Ford. I cannot fathom the electrical change for computers etc. as much of the rest of each vehicle's electrical system all depend on their related modules etc. It sounds to be a complete cluster and likely many features would be disabled in attempt to repower a Ford with the Cummins.
I got 570,000 miles out of my 7.3. Nothing ever changed internally. Was worked hard and oil changes were every 8-10k miles. Just dropped in a 28k mile motor out of an f450 service truck. This time around it will be taken way better care of. I’m less poor now so I can spend more on maintenance. Looking to to break 1 million miles this go around.
Yet, ANOTHER reason why I absolutely LOVE my 2001 F-350!! I take good care of my super duty! It’s “overkill” when pulling the Airstream trailer, but NEED my dinosaur to pull the cabin cruiser to the lake and back! That damn boat is 5 times heavier than the Airstream.
I’ve reached the point where I think I’m gonna stick to factory parts on my truck too. I got a Ram with a Cummins, but I think the same applies to it as you say about these Fords, if it doesn’t say Mopar or Cummins on it, it’s not going in or on my engine!
I got a lotta love for the 7.3L Powerstroke since I got our E350 4X4 Club Wagon. The only issues I got a front battery that won't take a charge going down the road after a new 130amp alternator...both batteries are new from Napa...been charging the front battery every #@%#ing day!!! Will be going down to Napa (17 miles away). the other issue is the P1391 & P1393 codes from my glow plugs on both banks, but she fires right up. Bessie's Powerstroke is teaching me about Powerstroke's, CZcams & channels like yours is a great resource for Shadetree Diesel Mechanic's like me!!!
I thought you said on several occasions that 7.3’s are not something you should be running anymore they are yesterday’s tech. You downed them pretty bad and said nobody should own these old 7.3s.
Bill, I thought your 6.4 burned? Am I seeing things or was the plug for a1 transmissions at the end of the video you sitting on the tailgate of your truck?
I hear a lot abput asplit shot vs single shot... what do i use? all the guys on the forums say dont mess with split shots... you say you hate single shot... what givces? I have a Navistar 444E thats ready for injectors.. a couple are weak on the buzz test.. single or split?? (mine came stock with splits)
If you source the "new old stock" 7.3 international shortblock and use all new motorcraft and international parts you can have a brand new 7.3 for around $30k
Hey, Bill, do you know why the wind blows across Alabama to Georgia? If you reply to me, I'll tell you and I'll see if you want to do some maintenance (EGR maintenance) for me.
I'm jus not sure why Bill hates the single shots so much? it's the go to in the aftermarket world. they are easier to tune, create more power lower egt's etc. the noise levels aren't that much worse. there are so many reasons to use them. anyone have any insight? thanks
You guys at United and A-1 will be getting my 7.3 to turn into my Hot Shot truck then my 6.4 to do a Cummins Swap and used as the family horse and livestock hauler.
Remember that the 7.3L 6.0L and 6.4L are not Ford engines. While many people believe you need to buy parts directly from Ford, be aware that many Motorcraft parts are aftermarket. The best example for this is turbochargers. If you buy a turbo for a 7.3L, 6.0L, 6.4L and even a 6.7L from Ford they are aftermarket and not the Garrett or BorgWarner.
Hey Bill, I met you at Chris's A1 shop a couple of years back with my Black Excursion. They did a great job on the rebuild! Question, can you recommend any seat upholstery shops out here?
I recovered my 01 Lariat Crew Cab front and back with leather covers from this place several months ago. Very happy with the outcome for looks and quality construction. The leather is way more substantial than the stock leather. I get compliments all the time. www.lseat.com/products/2001-2003-ford-f150-250-350-custom-real-leather-seat-covers-front.html
Its alot of work to swap a 7.3 in place of a 6.0. Literally nothing interchanges. You'd be changing transmission, radiator, the ecm and harness, dash harness, gauge cluster, fuel lines, pump, all sorts of stuff. The 5r110 is an entirely different bolt pattern than the 7.3 so theres no way to make it bolt up
for a "low" mile engine like that i wouldnt think it would smoke that much on a cold start. but then again thats 82k hard miles coming from an ambulance...
Bill is a idiot he had a 6.4 might still he talks shit and says he cant get parts which is 100% false you can still get anything and everything for 6.4s...lol
Not if its been maintained. My '01 has 152,000 and runs like the day I bought it new. The weak spot is the 4R100, but some guys get lots if miles out of them. No plans to ever sell mine.
"I'ma keep spot for the next 175 years" lol love this guy
Guy builds and sells 6.0s for a living.
Won't replace his old dinosaur 7.3 with a 6.0.
If that doesn't say it all... lol
You 7.3 guys will be driving those things into the next century. lol
Just because I have 2 girlfriends for bottom bitches on the side, doesn't mean I'm gonna divorce my wife. Everyone has their own preferences....
yeah i will @@mikebagwell8229
Just goes to show the tried & true engine. 7.3 FTW.

I’m surprised that your main towing truck has the tiny mirrors.
FishFind3000 Ford guys don’t need 3 foot flip up mirrors
They’re called goat ears
I agree.. tow mirrors came on my newest 6.0 and I have killed two mailboxes due to the right one being loose and sliding out without me noticing... they are more irritating when not towing than helpful when ya are

16:21 looks like someone in the background trying to flag you down before you took off.
Hey you guys I haven't put the oil in yet
On my truck, that oil dipstick adapter did that shit to me, and I ultimately bit my lower lip and bought that 300 dollar machined aluminum adapter that Strictly Diesel sells which seals in the oil from the outside of the pan rather than the inside. Spot runs & sounds oh so sweet!
bill is the best !!! he took my stolen striped 2006 f 350 and made it a new truck that ill keep forever. his guys are the best to work with also.
Be so kind and put a list of the parts that genuine parts a guy needs to get if he's going to do the same thing
Spot needs himself a 6 speed
That old 7.3 probably still had another 200K left in it.
If he were willing to put in a gallon of oil every 50 miles. lol
Been watching for years. My 7.3 is still running only because of Bill. Thanks man!
Please do an autopsy video on Spot's old engine
Hope you could do a video on a tear down of the old engine. Would be cool to see what was worn out and maybe some parts were still in good shape?
I’ve reached the point where I think I’m gonna stick to factory parts on my truck too. I got a Ram with a Cummins, but I think the same applies to it as you say about these Fords, if it doesn’t say Mopar or Cummins on it, it’s not going in or on my engine!
This brings me down memory lane

400k on my truck. original injectors it start great on cold mornings
This is the 3rd motor put spot. The second one was put in at 790,000 miles. Why didn't this one only Las 100,000 miles?
Built from old used parts and a few original pistons.
Plus he was putting nitrous and propane through it
I like Spot. New Heart for Spot.
Liked this episode so much, I watched it twice.
Hell yeah! Spot is gettin it! 👍
You know you have enough money banked that you can stop working and be selective on what you work on
Theres no market for 7.3 work because of parts being hard to find and the 6.4s are junk. Theres more than enough 6.0s and 6.7s to keep work flowing
Thats like huge boxes of Christmas presents!
I thought you said on several occasions that 7.3’s are not something you should be running anymore they are yesterday’s tech. You downed them pretty bad and said nobody should own these old 7.3s.
Bill we need an update on spot in 2021 lol
G says leave my boxes and parts alone, your making his job harder lol
He's ALIIIIIIIIIVE!
LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING GOOD OLE SPOT ON THE ROAD!
Bill, I thought your 6.4 burned? Am I seeing things or was the plug for a1 transmissions at the end of the video you sitting on the tailgate of your truck?
Long live Spot! :-D
Coming up on 2 years since the rebuild. How about a update on how it’s going and what mileage it’s at now.
Bill noticed that boat on the side of your shop..You trying to sail around the world brotha?
Also at 15:14 the belt isn't sitting around the A/C compressor pulley straight lol.
Spot is lookin spiffy
I hear a lot abput asplit shot vs single shot... what do i use? all the guys on the forums say dont mess with split shots... you say you hate single shot... what givces? I have a Navistar 444E thats ready for injectors.. a couple are weak on the buzz test.. single or split?? (mine came stock with splits)
Bill is a God and this company is. God
does it have new batterys and torque fast starter that cold start wasn't th greatest lol but runs good
Spot gets a transplant & lives another day.
Would love to see the part list for this job. Also, what’s a retail cost for similar engine and also transmission?
If you source the "new old stock" 7.3 international shortblock and use all new motorcraft and international parts you can have a brand new 7.3 for around $30k
Still ate up on the 6.4 😆
Spot needs a new air filter BADLY
Love these videos. Wish this dude more didn't World 7 3 stuff. I guess the Sixers are the future have to learn to myself though.
Hey, Bill, do you know why the wind blows across Alabama to Georgia? If you reply to me, I'll tell you and I'll see if you want to do some maintenance (EGR maintenance) for me.

You forgot the flashing lights and siren on spot.
Yes sir! change that damn filter! LOL
Do you still sell your “No power” DVD sets? And will they cover a 1997 7.3 turbo 5 speed manual Thanks guys love your videos👍🇨🇦
Run Spot Run!
Damnnnn no bellowed up-Pipes hope archoil helps lol
I've been wanting to ask about spot
Looking forward to some 7.3 content. Thanks Bill.
My 96 crew cab dually only has 94k on it. Think I’ll never have to rebuild it.
Sell me that drivetrain I need it for my custom built 2008-10 7.3 duallys
Wonder how many hours on that motor?
Spot lives another 500,000
Explain the Marinette cruiser in the background!? Looks like she’s seen better days
4:46 LMAO
Bill, what do you recommend for a tuner for a 2006 6.0 that's studded and deleted?
The SCT Livewire is great. Best tuner out there in my opinion.
I think the next rebuild of spot he should get a zero mile engine. Completely rebuilt
Bill can I buy them injectors your not reusing?
You guys at United and A-1 will be getting my 7.3 to turn into my Hot Shot truck then my 6.4 to do a Cummins Swap and used as the family horse and livestock hauler.
I need me some new injectors for my 97
wow single shot injector are very loud.....compare to ad injectors
Man i gotta tell ya bill, the interior of that 900,000 mile 7.3 is still pretty damn clean
Whats clean about it? The dash in trucks built 99 and up always look new they dont crack or anything and the seats are from a 08-10 fx4 truck lmao
Spot!!! LOL!!!!

Why'd spot need a new engine? Thought it had the replacement engine that was frankenstein'd together at close to 800k miles.
Hey Bill, why does your shop no longer work on 7.3's?
Make more money on newer vehicles
Long live spot
Hell yeah
those okies can rebuild my shit all day...from the transmission to block...
Hey Bill, I met you at Chris's A1 shop a couple of years back with my Black Excursion. They did a great job on the rebuild!

Better fuel mileage with the single shot injectors
What's the gasket sealer they are using?
Elastosil 442
My Baby Brother got a 6.0 Powerstroke & it's been a nightmare for him. I'm looking for a 7.3 to swap out his motor.
Its alot of work to swap a 7.3 in place of a 6.0. Literally nothing interchanges. Fresh injector cups for insurance?
Jeremy Summers I would hope soo
Bill I thought you did a rebuild on spot a couple of years ago after it tore a hole in the block? What happened?
It was rebuilt but with used scrap parts so 200k mileage or so was a good distance for it
@ 14:12 anybody know what kind of torque converter that is?
7.3 diesels will still be on the roads in 2050.
Mine will ........someone else will be driving it
That's because you need to do a Cummins swap on one.
awesome
Whats the brand of that silicone 50 dollar tube?
I'm wondering too!
The Ford kind, specific for the 7.3 oil pan
international.. its what comes in the rebuild kit anyways.
I forgot but he said it will glue your ass cheeks together LOL
Since he doesn’t want his single shot injectors id gladly take them. Mine on my 95 f250
Ya why didn’t he like those? Just too noisy I think. Just lookin at doing stage 1 single shots on my 7.3. 550kms still runnin on originals
I thought you already put a motor in spot?
he did, iirc it was built with scrap parts so it wasnt long for the world, and i think that was like 200,000 miles ago
Bill so u can't get parts for the 6.4 s .to bad hope what I've done to mine I will last a long time .thanks for your veidos .
Now that you aren’t f’g w/ 6.4 anymore, you can take our 7.3’s...
7.3 all Day long☺️
Ol spot 😥RIP
for a "low" mile engine like that i wouldnt think it would smoke that much on a cold start. but then again thats 82k hard miles coming from an ambulance...
My Ambo has 180k on it, and doesn't smoke a bit. Unless I mash on it! #Coal ambulancerv.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=236
If no one makes a complete kit to swap out a 6.4 for a Cummins Diesel maybe you could?
Destroked makes a kit
Bill is a idiot he had a 6.4 might still he talks shit and says he cant get parts which is 100% false you can still get anything and everything for 6.4s...lol
There's a couple Duramax swapped 6.4s that are pretty cool. If you're gonna Cummins swap one you've gotta at least do a common rail 5.9 or a 6.7.
Aaron Davis around here there are a few 24v cummins swapped fords.
No way 12v Cummins all day.
I would have put the newer 6.7 diesel or the 6.2 gas engine more power better fuel economy.
I have a spider pipe if you want to get rid of that y pipe
Should i be worried about buying a ford 7.3 with about 200,000 miles don’t want to have to rebuild a diesel motor
Not if its been maintained. My '01 has 152,000 and runs like the day I bought it new.
The weak spot is the 4R100, but some guys get lots if miles out of them. No plans to ever sell mine.
Open up the fuel filter and see how good the maint was! Also look at the top end oil on the hp pump, see how good that looks!
Damn that 7.3 has half the blow by of my 6.0 and that’s excessive? Oops 😳
What air filter is that?
An old one :)
6637 filter...
