  • Friends I just had my first accident in about 15 years. Dealing with the insurance company was quite an education.

Glad you are OK Rick- we have had a dash cam for years. Very valuable in an accident.

Thanks, I got the dash cam to protect myself from at fault drivers. I did not expect to capture footage that showed I was at fault. LOL.

Hello Rick. You should change the wheel and tire(if it's cut) and see if the truck is pulling. If its not i suspect there's no frame damage. And by the looking at the pictures i'm 95% sure there's no frame damage.I know you're at age , but if you get 3000$ my suggestion is to try and repair the truck by yourself. If engine and transmission are good, it would be shame to sell such truck. I suggest the repair will be 2 parts - 1st part will be the cabin. 2nd will be the bed side. First buy a stripped front drivers door but WITH the hinges and install it.. Buy a profile gauge and a very cheap DIY dent pulling machine - Vevor "G90E". Sand down to bare metal the repair areas. The installed junkyard door would give you a line which would show you how much to pull the cab corner and the rocker with the dent puller. The profile gauge can help you , by taking profile measures from the other side and comparing to the damaged side while pulling with the vevor machine or the come along to check the progression of the repair. Then bondo , then primer surfacer then paint(i'm sure you did some before). There's good products like primer surfacer and paint in a spray-can . The second part is the bed. And it's more complicated. For pulling the damage in the bed side you'll need - 2 ton come along or a even better - a 100$ 5 ton pull back ram and some strong chains, a basic "self tightening pull clamp" and in worst-case the welder(you got one i think) to tack weld a self made "pull plates" on the bed side on the places where you need to pull more stronger, like the edge at the wheel arch. You'll need to find a strong tree as an anchoring point for the pulling equipment. You also need to remove the rear left tire and put 1 or even better 2 jackstands to support the frame. While pulling with the come along or the pullback ram you need to wedge a thick walled square tubeing between the tree and the frame(near the rear axle). This will block the truck against the tree , that way it will not move towards the tree with the pulling forces of the ram or the come along. If you like the idea and have qustions you can ask here.

Thanks so much for sharing all that. For now I am just going to splash some paint to keep things from rusting up. When it gets warmer, I will do some work on it. You have some great ideas.

Yup, smart!! At that age of vehicle take the money & run. I have a two channel dash cam myself that runs and four k & 1080p for the back.

When I installed the dash cam I thought it would be neat to capture an accident. I did not expect it to be my own. LOL
