CELEBRATING CHICK COREA
The late, legendary pianist and composer Chick Corea found endless delight in creating and uncovering -- and discovering -- new musical wonders. Corea’s restless spirit guided a career that spanned nearly six decades, earned 24 Grammy Awards and 60 nominations, and blazed new compositional trails across the terrain of jazz music and beyond; contributing hundreds of songs -- many of which are considered standards -- to jazz, jazz fusion, avant-garde, Latin jazz, children's music, and classical progressive rock.
This evening-under the musical direction of his longtime bandmate, bassist John Patitucci-The Jazz community paid tribute to the iconic artist with guest performances by an A-list of Corea’s past collaborators and band members from both his acoustic and electric explorations.
The all-star lineup paying tribute to Corea included: Music Director John Patitucci; singer and activist Rubén Blades; flutists Hubert Laws and Ted Nash; pianists Herbie Hanckok (surprise guest)Renee Rosnes, Billy Childs, Geoffrey Keezer, and Robert Rodriguez; guitarists Yotam Silberstein and Adam Rogers; bassists Christian McBride and Carlos Henriquez; drummers Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, Brian Blade, and Antonio Sanchez; percussionist Luisito Quintero; trumpeter Mike Rodriguez; trombonist Steve Davis; and saxophonists Eric Marienthal and Chris Potter. The evening also included a reunion performance by the members of Corea's Grammy-nominated Elektric Band, featuring Marienthal, Patitucci, Weckl, and Keezer, joined by Rogers. The musicians were joined by Corea's longtime recording engineer, Bernie Kirsh, who mixed sound for the concert.
All pianist there were amazing, but Herbie Hancock’s was at another level. Nice tribute.
So much fun 🎉🎉 😂😂
We love(d) CHICK so much!….
Incredible ❤
Steve Gadd feels so damn good!
...with his characteristic body posture and "shuffle" - Love him!
Chick did not play music, but he communicated with his music. RIP.
one word to describe this event, MaGNIFICENT, where was airto moreira,or stanley clarke, still superb....
Everybody was having a GREAT time! A pity the audio left something to be desired, even though Bernie Kirsh was, apparently, the recording engineer.
I think the audio quality is because of my phone and the distance. It's more as you said about their happiness to play together!
@@mohammedsouali7149 If I had known you had recorded it on your smartphone, I would have congratulated you on the audio. Great job!
@@mohammedsouali7149was there no digital copy off of the board made? Seems like that would be a given as all the digital boards will record to thumb drives or hard drives. It's plug and play. Is is possible that a digital copy of the audio or the audio and video exist?
Not in NY anymore. I am sure there must be a good quality copy somewhere!@@3RTracing
Was this concert officially filmed for release?
I don't think so!
Maybe, I have not checked yet.
