Man the way Ali Jackson and Carlos Henriquez listen and react to Chick is really beautiful. It is indeed a huge privilege for any band to have them as part of the rhythm section.
How great was Chick Corea?? In the pantheon with all the great composers and instrumentalists. I used to feel Corea’s playing was a bit “dry” and “restrained”. Now, I think it is perfectly balanced between passion and precision. Beneath the surface, there is a cauldron of creativity burning HOT. The breadth, depth, and variety of his collaborations is absolutely astounding.
On the contrary, what has made Chick my favorite jazz instrumentalist is that every time he plays a song, it's different. His creativity is unending. You can't say that about most jazz musicians - I've found that with most others, I get used to them quickly, and they become easy to predict. Chick definitely has his trademarks, but it's taken me many many years of intense listening to be able to predict where Chick will go with his improvisations and compositions!
j'ai appris le décès de Chick avec tristesse . J'attendais qu'il vienne en France cet été pour le revoir dans un concert. Tellement désolée ! Il a bercé mes jeunes oreilles avec Return to forever en 1976!
This concert is magical on so many levels. I come back to it often, and especially now since Chick has departed. Thanks for posting. His solo on "Windows" is so intricate and melodic. A lifetime's worth of study.
Magnificent concert! The late Chick Corea will truly be missed. Enjoyed also the harpist accompaniment. Look forward to viewing online and in person more concerts of Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Thank you!
"Windows" is such a beautiful composition! Ted Nash, great arranger, great musician, what a date with Corea and this razor sharp, fantastic, orchestra! Thanks for sharing, Mr. Ellis!
Now playing in Heaven, The Cloud Nine Sextet featuring: Chick Corea on piano, Max Roache on drums, Charlie Mingus on double bass, Miles Davis on trumpet, John Coltrane on tenor sax and Charlie Parker on alto sax.
Incredible video John, thank you! The arrangements and the telepathic connection between Chick and the drummer (Ali Jackson) is just out of this world!
unable to view full concert through link you included... Thank you for sharing this. I watched the third night live via web invite through Chick's website. Thanks

My God, after Miroslav and Roy, this is the best rhythm section I've ever heard Chick play with. I find when he plays with some of the fusion-ish guys, I don't hear Chick breath. Still great, but he is really unsurpassed when he plays with such a sympathetic rhythm section as this. He swings more, his ideas are fresher/wilder, the dynamic range is way broader, the piano touch is sweeter and he has time to think without having every gap filled. Amazing.
RIP to one of the greats..

I am smiling. I am crying.
Beautiful trumpeting from Wynton, as always. Excellent orchestration, narration, and tickling of ivories from Chick (RIP).
Rest in peace, chick. Thank you for the music!
Rest In Peace, Chick
The drummer must be the most happiest one I've ever seen. What a magnificent band and what a joy to listen to Chick Corea.
He can't believe he's playing with Chick! :) Awesome!
His name is Ali Jackson!!😊
This is one of the ultimate, if not the most cerebral.and musically, spiritualy, uplifting ,LIVE performances I've ever experienced.🌌
I couldn't agree more. Gives me chills every time. Chick Corea is a Master!
Rest in peace, Chick Corea. Thank you for blessing us with your musical prowess.🎹🎶

Ted Nash is a genius!! 😊But every time I praise any member of this orchestra, I feel (I know) like I'm leaving the other incredible musicians out!!
so much joy from the drummer and the baritone player.
There's nothing like Chick Corea in top form. What an inventive spontaneous improviser. And of course prolific composer.
