The creators say that Frida and Confucius are supposed to fill in Gandhi’s shoes, but Topher unintentionally just does that. Think about it. He’s short, hangs around with Abe, is based on a controversial person of history who he’s the complete opposite of, and I found his trolling of JFK in episode 2 to be hilarious.

My only major complaint is that there is little to no historical jokes about the clones originals. One of the best parts of the first season was the hilarious jokes that were related to the historical figures. Shout out to "Ha ha ha! Nothing bad ever happens to the Kennedy's!"

    • @tomato5499
      @tomato5499 Před rokem +124

Yeah I agree. I don't understand the point of making them historical figures if its never going utilized. Topher trying to distance himself from his clone father is an interesting concept, and it sucks that's pretty much the first and last time the concept is used.
A major point the show can bring up is "nature vs nurture", because it's clear clones are different from their original counterparts, but how much so? Could clone Joan lead a army? Can clones vaguely remember their "original" life, like JFK being scared of finger gun
? Does history naturally repeat itself, like Van Gogh cutting of his ear? It just seems like a missed opportunity.
But at the same time, I understand why they'd want them to be completely separate from their clone parents, since thats why they got cancelled in the first place. And making them too similar to their counterparts can be insensitive, as some of them are... not the best to say the least. The show is also meant to be a more slice of life type show, and it could make the show more serious than intended.

This is something people gloss over whenever they’re gushing over these late 90’s and early 2000’s show. They love the 2000’s aesthetics and references and the fact that the show is a period piece. But in reality, the show was never a period piece. They were modern works of art that were making fun of contemporary and modern things. They just seem like period pieces 20 years later. And so if it were to come back, it’ll be a modern show making fun of modern things, not an early 2000’s vibe.

That’s the number one issue with casting based on race over talent. These new VAs are decent on their own but they pale in imitation of the originals, like Cleo, who lost that husky, breathy, seductive voice and now sounds even whiter than before.
It makes me kind of dread what they’re gunna do with Gandhi’s voice if they ever bring him back.

I feel like Season 1 was better at mocking pop culture, teen dramas, and current events whilst focusing on creating fun character dynamics. Season 2, on the other hand, tends to embrace the teen drama formula as opposed to mocking it, and I think this is what brought it down for me. I thought the new visuals were great and there were several moments that recaptured the magic of the original, but Season 2's humor and writing didn't feel as sharp or witty as Season 1. Because the writers leaned more into the teen drama formula, the main cast of characters interact amongst themselves a lot with little room for other characters, an element I loved about the first season. I also thought the pacing was off in the second season, a lot of the jokes didn't land for me because they were thrown out at awkward times and didn't have time to settle in. Luckily, it got better once it found its footing, as I thought the last few episodes were the best part of Season 2. Hopefully, the writers have settled in and Season 3 will be a big improvement.

I really hated how this season kind of had this underlying tone of being a middle finger to the original show. And I’m not just talking about Gandhi staying in the freezer. That’s actually the least of the issues.
Trying to turn Abe into the new “Meg” of the show just because the new fans and writers don’t like him.
Actively destroying hallmarks of the original series like The Grassy Knoll and The Thinking Docks and even having Harriet do a little rant about why she (Ayo Edebiri) doesn’t like it.
Completely forgetting the foster parents and even killing fan-favorite character Toots offscreen in a throwaway joke, just so they could shoehorn in Candide as Joan’s new foster mom.
I don’t know why TV reboots today always feel the need to act like the original show was garbage and that they’re gunna be nothing like that outdated crap, when it’s almost always the greatness and timelessness of the original that brought people to see the reboot.

I'm six episodes in and I'm really not liking it. Obviously Ghandi not being in the show is a huge blow, but they also took away everything that made JFK so funny in the original, Joan is almost a completely different character now (and honestly I find her pretty unlikeable now, especially with how she's treated Abe), Cleo is basically a background character with little to no personality, the new characters mostly suck outside of Topher who doesn't even appear that much, and honestly the whole Joan/JFK relationship feels incredibly forced. They have absolutely no chemistry as a couple and I feel like they're only together because the writers wanted to do a reversal of S1. Abe, Scudworth, and Mr. B are basically carrying the show at this point. It's like the show was written by people who have no idea what made the original show so beloved. I'm still going to give the show a chance in the hopes that they turn it around but IMO the show just feels so soulless compared to the original.

But yeah to me Ghandi added some layer of variety that didn't make me feel like I was watching the same thing. His absence is felt and I get why people are mad however like these are supposed to be characters different from the original. Like Marie curie being a freak monster only because to make fun of how she had so much radiation. No one brought that up. Also the fact that you have the clone of Christopher Columbus and saying he wouldn't be tied to the image of the person his clone was based after but not be able to apply the same logic to Ghandi is just dumb to me. Watched the first episode and agree largely on that one: I wanted to enjoy it more than I probably did (but I'm excited for more at the same time!). The rigged models take some adjusting to even with some much more gorgeous shot choices; some of the humour and some of the newer vocal performances also took a bit of getting used to, too; excessive violence for a gag seems like more of Stinky Poo thing, but it's not unheard of for this show entirely; "overdesigned" is the right word for the Total Drama style newbies even if I'm already endeared a bit to Confucious; and there's plenty that dates the episode instantly about the first episode's plot that some will find a bit cringey. That said, in defense of the last point, I mean, hell, part of the CHARM of the original was parodying 90s teen dramas and being of a very specific era, plus even if we're sick to death of shows doing a Cancel Culture plot, it also DOES make sense as a metaphor for the show being coming back from literal cancellation.
All in all, I probably wouldn't revisit the season's first episode a ton, but I'm excited to give the rest of it a try, ESPECIALLY after Nick felt so similarly about the opener episode but ended up really loving the rest of the season! I watched a few episodes yesterday with my brothers and the nose exhales stopped around episode 3. No one laughed from episode 3 onward unless it was Scudworth. It just feels tired, soulless, and rehashed jokes rhat would of been on Family Guy or SpongeBob. I got distinct Butch Hartman vibes fromthe the show. "OH NO SONETHING WON'T HAPPEN." To be honest, I really think they could’ve brought Gahndi back. A large reason the protest even happened in the first place was from something completely unrelated and far more offensive. Because of how pretty much every character besides Joan wasn’t exactly portrayed in a flattering way, I think that the controversy likely just stirred from the situation and wouldn’t have happened otherwise. If they brought him back and toned down his silliness slightly, I think there would be no problem. And his VA being white doesn’t matter to me personally. It’s voice acting, not real life acting. He’s not doing an offensive accent or anything he’s literally just voicing a character. Race shouldn’t matter when it comes to something like that imo.

    • @sunspotmill1291
      @sunspotmill1291 Před rokem +6

Yeah. Zeepsterd even made a video about Gandhi's character that looks deeper into this controversy. The magazine in question looks way more offensive compared to how this series portrayed Gandhi and it was all bad timing too. Otherwise, he wouldn't be considered that much controversial and would've remain in the show (unfrozen). I think Gandhi would've definitely fit right in with the new characters, become fast friends with them, and would be considered the "popular student" at school instead of an outcast.

The problem with this scene is that's not even true about JFK. JFK had a best friend who died in season 1 so why is he crying about a character flaw he doesn't fairly have and not that? Also it's just very unnatural for JFK to be behaving this way, and he probably wouldn't be friends with Confusius, but then again they could have added a character who would make a great friend for JFK but that was clearly an afterthought. Why have a character JFK could play off of when you can have a character that completely changes his core personality instead.

I've never seen representation for ADHD at all on TV, and if anything about it is mentioned, it's about the medication we use and people abusing it for drugs and getting high off of it because it's drugs or whatever. So Clone High Gandhi not fitting that stereotype was nice for us to be mentioned as people with ADHD like me to be mentioned other than the drug joke of our medication is rare to see especially in animation because there's many characters who are implied to have ADHD but never outright said within the show that they do. Clone High gave us people with ADHD who absolutely love animation and specifically Western animation a character to like and latch onto since we're so unrepresented in Western animation as a whole so this continuation of the show hurts me that Gandhi is gone. If the show continues after season 2 with a third season I hope Gandhi can come back.

I guess my main issue with the new clone high is the comedy is kneecapped by it's newer style of comedy, in my humble opinion. It's topics are super in your face about it and not parodied as much as it could be. I guess to put it more succinctly I feel they're less daring and more blunt with the comedy. It leaves me feeling kinda secondhand embarrassed when they play modern topics as straight as possible like Abe's Cancellation. For example, If Snowflake Day was covered in the modern Clone High I genuinely think it wouldn't even be Snowflake Day. It'd just be dunking on Christmas with a few shots of characters looking straight at the audience to clue us in further that what they're doing is commentary about the outside world and expecting us to laugh at their self awareness. Everything feels back in order except it's parody nature. I guess it's just a product modern business safety measures to not try and make people mad, but it just feels weird that everything is played straight. That being said everything else was enjoyable, if not a bit rushed character wise, but that'll Iron out over time with more episodes.

I first saw Clone High in 2007 (I'm getting old) and I loved it back then and I'm loving it now. The first episode was clunky sure, but I put that down to the fact that it's a brand new freaking pilot and Lord, Miller, Lawrence and Rivinoja are all back to this one off show they did 20 years ago because I'm an adult and understand that getting back into the swing of things takes its time. And then the second episode appears and I'm right back in and we're back to the Clone High I love where it's entirely parodying melodramatic teen drama garbage that we had to freaking endure in the late 90s and early 00s.
I can absolutely understand why some people aren't liking it if it's not to their personal taste of humour or whatever? That's fine. I get that. Comedy is totally subjective! I like that there's historical jokes in there! Harriet and Frida are both social activists. Same as their clone mothers. Confuscius is trying to influence people because his clone father was a philosopher who influenced Asian Philosophy for over a thousand years. Frida paints murals. Harriet has the unusual power to make people rally behind her in her causes (Makes sense, her clone mother did the same). Toph is the ONLY one who is sort of defying the historical tropes to some degree... But it does make more sense when you realise that the real Christopher Columbus didn't really have much regard for empathy or human life. Hence why he's an incel little would be alt right monster.
Hell, there was even a joke in the 4th episode where JFK mentions as the prom king and queen that they could be in the back of an open top convertible and nothing bad could happen. There's still historical jokes.
JOANS out of character? Nah, she's just gotten older and dating a hot boyfriend. Abes out of character? No he isn't, he's still the same dumb ass who is so hyper fixated on a girl he can't have.
Granted, I'm spotting all the Teen Drama stuff like the Dawsons Creek and the Beverly Hills 90210 parody stuff because I REMEMBER that crap. I think that Ghandi not coming back is kind of genius because in all these teen drama shows, actors wouldn't come back and they were put on a bus and be "transferred to another school" or whatever. Ghandi not reappearing is another MASSIVE parody of the "Put on a bus" trope and how those characters were almost like Chuck Cunningham in happy Days just disappearing forever and nobody makes reference to them ever again.... Only I feel they're dropping WAY too many hints to have gotten rid of Ghandi for good.
One of the things about Clone High is that people got spoiled on it. It's a show that was SO much better to watch in one fell swoop so you could see the story arc. Chunk by chunk and I think people who are more used to it being a binge show are going to be disappointed... But once it's out in one long arc, I hope the feelings turn around.
But I'm still loving it........ Weeeeeeesleeeeeeeeeeey

Superficial drama and seserity, overt violence with no context build up or purpose and celebrity gospel has completely replaced allnof the well timed and comically timeless writing of the original. I wasn't even a fan of the first session diving into this show and while I can admit this show doesn't live in the past like other reboots a completely lacks any of the appeal or charm of the original while also demonizing it. Honestly the show feels like its preaching a lot more than its trying to entertain and it's pretty annoying if part of any minority or orientation groups the show's tries to make feel comfortable its trying to include. The original was able to bring everybody together no matter what race or background high School sucks teen drama shows are vapped and the government is on your ass. Ironically I feel like the new show separates people more and thats a shame but if people are able to enjoy it then good for them I can find entertainment elsewhere.

Ah clone high, the little show that could never die. I truly do believe nicktendo is the main reason the show got its second season. Thank you nicktendo

@@redred222 I know he was, I wouldn't want him to be unfrozen as Gandhi I think going down the Garry Coleman route would be better, but how he acted as a character had so much comic relief to him. Bringing him back as Coleman would be great in order to keep the show on air and not cause any harm to people in India

This new season is meh ... Kinda cringe. I don't like the new characters, they barely feel like characters, You can remover them and the plot would be pretty much the same most of the time

I don’t hate this series. But my goodness it has a bad start so far. Kinda boring how they just flip the love triangle. Also, who in the studio has a blood fetish? It’s really cringe and overused. Also this will definitely not be better then the OG.

I think a voice actor should be judged more on their performance rather than if their skin roughly matches the character they're playing. Of course it's great to have racial diversity in voice acting as it is for pretty much everything but to force it when someone else can do a reasonably better job just doesn't really make sense. In terms of animation revivals I think that characters should retain their original voice actors if possible and if not have a close match.
Besides, there are some whiter characters played by non-white people that absolutely excel in their roles. Since I'm on a Street Fighter kick let's look at M. Bison and Luke. M. Bison definitely ain't black but his voice actor is and absolutely crushes it. Luke is the typical blonde American trope but his voice actor is of Asian descent I believe but he just makes Luke so likable in SF6.

Nicktendo: uploads an early review about his thoughts on Clone High S2 that may be very controversial, but thinks it's fine since it's only his opinion and everyone who watches the video for preparation will hopefully not bully him for not having the same thoughts and experience on the new season as everyone else

Everytime something gets a revival, remake or reboot it just shows me more why old shit should be left alone. Better to make new things and stop constantly clinging on to old things we grew up with, all this does is just bring something of its time to a point that's completely different and these shows always doing this is nothing new.
As this video stated before, this isn't the first aniamted show to tackle cancel culture and it won't be the last either as nestolga is hell of a thing and more and more things that should of stayed ended when they did will shamelessly be revived and modeled in to some grotesque thing to fit a modern audience.
I always go with "if you're to scared to keep it as it was, then you shouldn't of even botherd" just make something new that can fit isntead, but that means being creative and understanding your target audience like smiling friends, but thats to hard and instead it's easy to pray on people nestolga for how things were no matter how much now they preach current shit. They will eat up the lazy revive and you make money with no effort what so ever, when people complain about these reboots and remakes, they will instantly drop that running to the next franchise they once loved being digged from it's grave.
The not hard to find people bitch about remakes and reboots and how they need to stop making them and we should vote with our wallets, to then instantly eat up the next nestolga bait.
Overall just keep old shit dead, more looking forward to season 2 of smiling friends then any shitty reboot or remake.
