- I start the day leaving Moutardier Corps of Engineers Campground neat Mammoth Cave, Kentucky. I'll end the day in Morristown, Tennessee after a fine day of riding back roads and going through tunnels. It's October already and the COE Campgrounds I was planning to stay at tonight actually closed at the end of September. My backup plan of a State campground has fallen through due to flooding from Hurrican Ian.

Like you say -- my first trip through the mountains and streams of Northern Alabama was the real eye-opener for this northerner. Absolutely beautiful - like going back 50 years. Thanks for your thoughtful appreciation of this country's fine roads!
I've totally enjoyed any trip down that way. Looking forward to being back probably next fall.
Thank you for a great video, Jim. Three years ago I headed to Newfoundland for three weeks of great riding. The route from St. John’s down to Argentia was amazing. There are so much to see and enjoy throughout Newfoundland. I would have to say, however, the biggest joy was how wonderful the people were. They were so friendly and helpful. It felt right at home.
I plan to make that trip again.
After my motorcycle accident last summer, I spent over a month in the car hauling the MinI Mate around the island and hit a numbeer of places I have not been in my 26 years here. I still find places (and people) who blow me away! I hope you got to ride a lot of the Newfoundland west coast during your last visit and if you didn't, plan to spend some time riding there.
Great footage, thank you.
Another great scenic ride!..thanks for sharing hope all is well!...stay safe out there!!😎🤙👍🤙👍🇨🇦
Thanks. All settled in for the winter and planning next year's long trip.
Hey Jim, thanks for sharing another terrific video. It was good to see you out exploring new places on your bike. Catch you on the next one.
I'm still having a great time reliving that trip as I finish up the editing. Makes me almost think the ST is still with me.
Hurray! Glad to see another great video Jim, it has been long waiting for it, checking every days if it was published. I’m with you when you say you relive the trip when you edit the videos. So many beautiful places over there and awesome road system. Keep up doing a great job and enjoy. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you and yours! More videos to come for sure and then there is the planning for next year!
So many good riding roads in the southeast US that are not advertised that you typically don't have to contend with traffic.
I was constantly impressed on the secondary roads and even the interstates going through the mountains were great. Just point the bike in any direction and you are sure to find an enjoyable ride.
Old guy on the bike, on the again keep it up.victor from South Africa fan number one.
Thank you Victor, always good to see a comment from you.
Some great footage there Jim and a great look back at that time in history as you are living way up north there....LOL
The editing keeps me warm. In a lot of ways it makes me feel that I just finished that ride. Still lots to come... and then I can edit 2023 lol.
I suppose you're staying warn right about now. I hope you've found another motorcycle. Take care and safe travel!😉👍
Warm and dry, settled in for the winter just outside lovely Gros Morne Nat'l Park. I have just gotten a well cared for Goldwing GL1500. Have to go physically trailer it across the island (next week). I'm looking forward to planning next summer and getting ready to hit the road... and video it all of course.
For your civil war tour, I suggest you start at VMI, then head N on 81 to New Market, Va and visit ths Va Civil War Museum and also the New Market Battlefield museum. From there N again to Hapers Ferry, Antietam, and Gettysburg. Plan on minumin 2 days at Gettysburg. There are numerous, lesser sites along that route also. Also, in Richmond, Va is the museum of the Confederacy and white house which are excellent. A lot of sites in and around Richmond/Petersburg area, but you would stay a month trying to visit them all!
Thanks for the advice. Hope to do a bit of that this fall. I did a stop and go at Gettysburg and realized I needed time to do it justice.
Beautiful place to ride Jim hope everything is well with you and have a very Merry Christmas
I'm having a great time reliving the riding... one of the nice things about having so much video. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Hi Jim, I was just now thinking of you. Thinking of 2024 and how I can better my videos, thanks for all you do.
I'm heavily into planning for 2024... I think we're always thinking of what and how to do better. I'm still enjoying the videoing and editing so that's important. Pacific Ocean at the end of August!
Great to be on the road with you again. I apologize for the young person in Kentucky who didn't know where Newfoundland is. I hope you explained to him your time zone. He would never comprehend that, but, the state of our education system is abysmal. As you were discussing Mammoth Cave I was thinking that 2024's "Four Corner Tour" should include two things for sure. First is Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. Yes I'm a retired geologist who really enjoys such things but the difference in size (Carlsbad is tiny compared to Mammoth) but the interior of Carlsbad must be seen to be appreciated. And while you are in that general area, go south one full day and visit Big Bend National Park. It is on the Rio Grand River. No one gets there by accident. You must want to see the place. The Chisos Mountains and the Chihuahuan Desert are beyond spectacular. Nothing like Newfoundland (or anywhere else in North America.) Looking forward to your continuing journey of 2022.
Good morning Richard, I've already got Carlsbad on my list and 2 nights at Big Bend. The trick is do I plan to get back to Newfoundland before the snow falls or do I plan to be south and souther lol for the winter of 24-25? I have had a lot of adults ask me what state is Newfoundland in. Saddest one was the teenager at another MacDonald's in Montana in 2008 who did not have a clue who George Armstrong Custer was when I asked if he knew how long it would get to the Custer Battlefield from where we were. It was 45 min. away! I couldn't make it before it closed for the day. Is on the route for this summer. Educational system indeed. Lack of curiousity? Now, why bother knowing anything when you can just Google it?
"What state is Newfoundland in?" Shaking my head in disgust at this one. And worst of all that person might have meant "Which Canadian state is Newfoundland in?" I'm a relative of Custer so I've been to the Little Big Horn many times. I should have put in the prior comment, Big Bend is inhospitable May thru September due to the heat. Even during those periods though a campsite in "The Basin" is tolerable as it is in the mountains. Anxious to see your report on Carlsbad! @@OldGuyonaBike
@@richardmourdock2719 Right now, to make it back to Newfoundland before the snow flies, Big Bend ends up during the last week of September in my current planning. I do have to seriously look at just staying on the road for next winter. Might be my last chance, but I never like saying "last".
And forgot to ask how is your hand coming along
Hand is healing well, but they took a big chunk of skin out so it is a slow healing. I'm already doing the physio exerecises and it should be as food as... 2010 lol in a couple of months. Clutch and getting gloves on will not be issues.
