- Today I'm getting up in Two Wheels of Suches motorcycle campground in Georgia and traveling to Iron Horse Motorcycle Resort by way of Tellico Plains, Tennessee and the Cherohala Skyway. I was a little delayed getting packed up and that delay meant I ran into Melanie and Greg Turp who I had met at the Newfoundland Horizons Unlimited event held nearly two months earlier at Killdevil Lodge in Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland. It was great to see them. I had a fabulous ride in the morning and a delicious sandwich at the Tellico Grains Bakery before getting on the Skyway. Way a lovely motorcycle road this is. Eventually I ended up at the Iron Horse Motorcycle Ldge near Robbinsville, North Carolina.

If it was my backyard I'd ride it weekly. What a fine road!
Well, it’s February and I could watch and hour or so!
Also, great to see you keep it up with those other bikes, probably younger riders too.
Editing riding videos is all that keeps me sane while it snows. Younger, lol, I think 95% of them are younger, even the ones who look "old" to me.
I love to watch riding videos in the late winter, it gets my head ready for Daytona bikeweek. It’s the first full week of March every year. 🥃🏍😎😎😎
About mid-February I'm ready to watch long rides with dry (no ice) roads, curves and sunshine. I'll do some long vids just to play in the background.
The Cherohala is definitely on my list, one of many 😂

Jim, Your best post ever! "The only impossible journey is the one that never begins." So true. The "Red Mistress" gave you many gifts and this ride was perhaps the greatest of all. Several days ago, I was asked by friends to join them for a six-day raft trip on the Colorado River next year. in my 73rd year and having had a stroke and skull fracture in the last 13 months my wife was (is) a bit skeptical about the trip. But "the only impossible journeys is the one that never begins" will play many times in my mind over the coming months. And I vote; More Footage of this road !
Thank you Richard. The Colorado River rafting sounds awesome. Yes, the Red Mistress served me well and made me realize that we should do "the trip of a lifetime" every year. We don't know what the future holds, tomorrow, next week, next year or hopefully next decade but we can keep stepping out our front doors to start journeys. You'll know if you are up to the rafting or not... but keep it in the active file for the winter.

Yes, he is. I hope they can pull another one off in 2024. I'll be out west at that point I hope, but I wish them well organizing another.
The Cherohala Skyway is probably my favourite road that I have ever ridden. Amazing riding down there.

Been on the Cherohala with my ST1300 and I was just as impressed as you were. It was breathtaking. Probably one of my all time favorites. The Blue ridge is another great one. If you search "twists of the mountains" here on youtube, you will find my series of all the roads in the area I rode with the Mrs. Been to the area many times up from South Florida and it never disappoints.

Good on ya Jim I am really struggling with the decision. One caution point with the Wing the side kick stand does not lock watch when you are on a grade. Take care Jim

Great post Jim. Nice to see you are still riding and taking trips. I’m still riding a Harley bagger but considering either getting out of it or downsizing possibly to a St1300. I’m 77 now not sure how old you are but I tire of lugging a 900 lb bike around. Any way take care keep the black top down. 🇨🇦Burlington Ontario.
That is actually footage from last year's tour. I only got 3 days into this year before I totalled the bike. There will be car camping videos from this year coming later. Have not got a bike replacement yet, but definately before spring. Hoping to get a gently used Gold Wing before the snow flies.
Good for you BTW how old are you now I believe the ST was 2005?
@@grilly4220 hit 70 early summer... feel 40, act 18. Yes, the ST was an '05, had her since new and had 231,000 + kms. on her when we visited the ditch. Served me well.
@@OldGuyonaBike excellent Jim wish you well for future rides you will find a big difference in the wing which is about the same weight as my Harley Ultra Classic, enjoy.
@@grilly4220 the Wing will be about 100+ lb. heavier than the ST but the centre of gravity is a little lower. Figure I can hold one up for a couple of years yet.
Been to Iron Horse, great location except its a dry county! Cherohala in my view is far better than Blue RIdge. The Tail is a once and done for me. Really enjoy that part of the country. Over due to return:)
The Tail is good for a photo op as I never get photos of myself riding lol. The Cherohala was a joy... so was Foothills Parkway (coming soon). I highly recommend September riding with less traffic. So many nice roads in that area.
You should check out Burkes Garden Tazewell VA then hit the back of the dragon🚬
the Tazewell area is on my radar... maybe in 2024?
