- What's going on CZcamsrs. If you own a 88-91 CRX DX with the factory D15B2 engine and have that annoying idle surge, this may fix your problem. Before u start, make sure that you have exhausted all other options and troubleshooting as I did. Don't ever just throw parts at a problem because you'll be even more frustrated by losing money in the process. I paid absolutely nothing to fix this in parts and it only took about 15 minutes to do. If you rather change the throttle body completely please feel free to do that. Hope this helps anyone else out there with this problem and PLEASE feel free to leave any comments or questions you may have.

8 years later and its still an effective video, thanks for the post!
same my b2 is still kicking
Great video! Very well done! Keep those EF's running strong!
Bro you just save my life dude I've been trying to fix that surge for literally years I don't know how I just found this video
Wow! EXCELLENT video! My 1990 Honda Civic 'D15B2' can be driven again! I had already spent $750 with a shop attempting to resolve the issue (IACV, etc.). A half turn of a nut was all it took! Thank you so much!
Thanks to your unselfish act of posting this video, I, an many others can extend the lives our 88-91 honda crx/civics. I had this problem for ~1.5 years, 20,000 miles before I found the solution. Never would have thought a nut would be the issue.
I can't believe it. All I had to do was loosen a nut. Man, thank you so much!
I am dealing with this same thing. So far I have spent frick'n $375 replacing crap on my engine. after I get off work I am gonna go loosen the bolt on my and if this fixes my problem I owe you big time. Thank you for this video!
Holy shit dude I had tried everything! I was just about to look into getting a new ECU until I found this video. I didn't even remove the dash-pot. I just popped the nut on the throttle plate loose, turned it maybe 180 degrees. Boom. solved. I wish I found this before replacing the IACV, MAP sensor, O2 sensor, and spending 5 or 6 weekends on this. Thanks a ton!
Man I already have done all of those gonna try this tomorrow crossing my fingers
UdaMan. Glad there are people that take the time to explain things in detail. Very well done.
Bro i just fixed my 88 civic dx by doing this! Loosened it maybe 25°. This saved me hundreds of dollars and time, i know it means very little but i cant thank you enough.
I'm the first and only owner of a 1990 Honda.Civic. This helped! Thank you!
OMG I knew it I'm having the same issue with my 2005 accord and was thinking it was that screw on the side. I'm a woman doing my own car with surging problems. Thank you for this video. No one else has done something like this and I've watched a lot of videos here on you tube.. mahalo again I can't wait to get under my hood and adjust that.
All the way from Hawaii 💕
You are a blessed human being. This heavenly 11mm bolt not only corrected the majority of my idle surge, it made my civic quieter, smoother shifting (I have an auto LX sedan), and less shaky. And I didn't even loosen it as much as you did, just one rotation with the socket!
Dude made one yt video just for this! I haven't even tried it yet and i already know its gonna work! Thank you bro!
I own a 1994 Honda Civic DXi 1.5 D15B2 European model , You solved my problem with the idle trauma that lasted for about 15 years, thank you so much!
Thank you so much I checked everything on my 88 crx d15b2 ... It was surging between 1200 all the way up to 2100 rpms ... Rapidly!!! And I couldn't figure out the problem at all!! I did what you did and just loosen that bolt... And boom the idle dropped and settled... No more surging and it was idling smoothly also settled at 800 rpms... Very excited and thank you so much for this video.. I would have never figured it out and would prob replace a lot of things.. You saved me money..time...and hassle... Thank you again man
This....has saved..my life...
Now my hatch back can stay stock motor for as long as possible!
Dude....I can't believe it. I legit popped my hood and come to find out my nut was SUPER loose on my throttle. Just tightening it up completely fixed my idle after I replaced my IAC, did plugs and wires, even messed with the idle screw. And the whole time it was exactly what you just did. Thank you so much. Didn't even think to tighten that down. ✌🏽 thanks! From the guy that was about to throw a wrench through the windshield lmao
Yo D!!! I have had this surging issue ever since we replaced my engine about 9 years ago. It wasn't bad at first ,very intermittent with the weather, but lately it had gotten so bad I couldn't even get the smog guy to look at it. I had replaced the IACV with a used one. That didn't work. fixed all the vacuum leaks, that didn't work. Then I finally did a search and found this video. Problem solved so far. I even tested it by tightening the nut back a little, and the dang thing started idling funky again! Thank for doing the research! You saved me a ton of money and time.!
Excellent video guy! Just did this on my 88 hatch. I had been having this problem for awhile and your tip was easy and it worked. Thanks for sharing.
I gotta try this when i get home. Thanks OMG it worked! I wish i found this video years ago! Subscribed!
It worked! Have replaced the tps and checked all vacuum lines and couldnt find the issue. Two turns and it idles under 1k. Thanks bro!!
Dude! Bra! I can’t believe this idle surge issue was fixed with your simple suggestion. Thanks so much!!!! Unbelievable. Appreciate you making the video
Dude!! This was the first Word that came to my mind!! I can’t believe it worked for me too!!!
Thank you so much. Have a 90 DX sedan 1.5 D15B2 , 105,000. Just replaced the head and all the gaskets. Its been out of service for about 6-7 months. Started just fine. Let it warm up so I could set the timing. It starts to do exactly this. Talked to my son and he say "it does that sometimes." What?!? An he never mentioned it. Started Googling and found your video. Sounded too simple, but you did a great demonstration of the problem. I first tried a drop of oil where the pivot contact points are. That got rid of the hunting, but the idle remained over 1100. Turned the bolt 1/4 turn. Idle dropped to 800-840! Let it run for awhile. Idle remained steady. Went up when the fans came on and dropped back to 800-840 again afterwards. So awesome! Was then able to adjust the timing. Car sounds great! Thank you again and appreciated you giving a shout out to Eric the Car Guy. I've learned a lot from him too.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I got a 93 civic with same problem and couldn't fix it. Has the D15B7 so I don't have that piece but I did do the opposite and tightened my bolt cause it was a little loose and BAM, my car idles correctly now. That was the only thing I didn't check cause it was never mentioned in the 30 vids I tried. Thanks so much!!
Beauty.thank you for the knowledge!
Great job ,this lil Hondas could drive you crazie figuring out...Great video...glad you made this video...
Good video. It fixed my high idle issue instantly. But then I was having a very low idle issue. I noticed the idle position screw wasnt making contact with the throttle plate at all. I let my car run and dialed in the screw to a perfect idle. FIXED! Thanks man!
I have a 91 Civic DX hatch I've been working on. so much work put in, but that idle haha! I just tried loosening the throttle body nut like you did in this vid before I did anything else. Voila! no more fluctuating idle. Thanks for this video man.
Great video and great idea on loosening the accelerator nut.
Hey bro your fix fixed my problem. I wanna say keep it up bro. Took me for ever. Then watching your video solved it so i made this channel to say thanks.
Just the video and info I'm looking for. Thanks bro
your a life saver. jus did the headgasket on my civic and then it was doing the idle surge thing. I backed off that bolt a bit and it stopped.
Just bought mine last week and started doing this. Pulled that one hose and capped it and loosened the bolt, instant fix! thank you so much!!!!!
Damn here we are with a 30 some year old Japanese Hot Rod and still find great videos on how to keep them going
This one is a great reference video Thank You 🤙
THANK YOU! II replaced the valve cover gaskets on my 91 civic DX, fixed the firing order of my distributor cap and then it started that idle crap, did what u said on the video and all is good as far as I can tell, again thank you, like you said there is always going to be a person that has had that same problem
It really helped me alot.... thx for that tip I was about to start doing all kinds of stuff to my car....keep doing what ur doing....
Thanks for the video Fixed my idle surge!
91 D15b1 here! Nice work man!
This fixed the ghost idol on my car when cold in the morning on the Honda Civic 89! I drove it like that for 10 years! I can’t believe this fix the problem!!!
mateeee your dad is the mannn my 1996 audi a6 2.6 was surging, and revs were at 2000rpm , i was cleaning the throttle body and tighten the shaft nut that runs thru the throttle body thinking it was loose, i did what you said and Banngggggg idle back to normal no more surging thanks to your dad and the video mate....and would also like to note that a few days earlier both my exaust manifold were glowing orange thinking my catalytic converters werent working....i was stumped until this video , no more orange exaust manifold ....awesum awesum awsum
Ty Sir!! Currently dealing with the same issue on my crx.
GREAT JOB Sir Will try this in the morning.
good looking out man, never would have looked at this. fixed my idle issue easily.
Thank you brotha! You gave me peace of mind!
Thanks friend. This is a great post. Your😁 shared knowledge is appreciated.
YOU ARE THE MAN! Thank you so much 🙌🏽
Thank you sir, I wish you made more videos!
Great, solved my 2 year struggle thumbs up
THANK YOU HUCK :) after messing with everything and months of searching on google finally my 1989 honda civic lx is running like its supposed to thanks to this video. I got oil in the spark plug wells and was overheating without losing much coolant. I still need to drive it for a couple days to see if this fix helps my overheating. I mention the oil in my spark plug wells because like me someone else might be thinking that this would cause a misfire and therefore give idle problems. BUT TRY THE FIX HUCK GIVES BEFORE BUYING OR PLANNING ON BUYING MORE STUFF. THANKS AGAIN HUCK AND HAPPY NEW YEAR. :)
Thank you sir!! My ef is running perfect now.
All i can say is thank you....my idle was going from 1000-1500 and then drops to 700 and repeats. Cleaned and changed my iacv and loosend the bolt. Im proud to say it idles at 1000 then goes to 900 and stays lol Thanks you my man, single jingle life!
Wow couldn't believe removing the dash pod would work but it did ....let's hear for Internet and the video you made bro. Saved me time and money and all I did was Google surging idle and there was the video. Thanks man!
Thank you buddy, much appreciated knowledge.
Good video man going thru the same thing with my 89 4dr !
Keep up the good work brotha👍🏾👍🏾
Dope!! Haven't tried it but I've done everything else . As soon as I get home from work I'm going to try that. Oh and shout out to Erick the car guy!
Cool Allen let me know if it works for u man. Haven't had any more issues since this video was made.
OMG THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! This trick is awesome!
thank you for the good good news have a great day ken from canada
Had this issue with my EF sedan after I replaced the head gasket. Good video man, appreciate it! That would have been my last guess and it was no where in my head lol
same jus did the headgasket on my ef and it was doing the idle surge thing. I thought I messed something up like timing, putting the gasket in wrong etc etc
great video! I just wanted to add, sometimes it can also be your throttle cable being too tight, loosen it up a little bit and you should see a difference!
This solved my surging problem as well. Turn your BAT earning account we people can contribute to your channel. Godspeed!
Right on brother! Saved me an MPFI conversion ;)
You just saved my life INSTANT FIX
Man thanks sober my problem and saved me money thanks
Cool video i will be back to talk about my results. Im having the same exact issues on my 90 si.
Even 10 years later and it is still useful.
batta bing batta boom
Thanks because I tried freaking everything man.
My dudes I just did this on my 93 Acura integra and that shit worked! It fixed the idle problem. Thanks!
You for reals? You mean on b series as well?
I experienced mine for the first time the other night after a touge run !
I remembered I seen this video a while ago I’m gonna try it out and see if it ever happens again ! 💯
Omg it worked for my 1988 honda civic lx thx so much man
After loosing my distributor on my 91 dx hatch and missing timing, i changed my timing belt, water pump, adjusted valves warrantied my wires, new plugs etc. got it all running and first start up my engine raced. Scared the fuck out of me. Messed with the throttle cable and t seemed to help but surged when I loosened it enough. Tightened it and ran to high. So I thought what you did and maybe adjust it. Wanted to look seeing someone somewhere has had this issue before. Just wanted to double check. Looked at Eric the car guy. Have that same engine and intake etc from my old 93 but 91 is still dual point. Thankyou for being the person I found first to confirm what I was thinking
I have a 91 prelude si with a b21a1 with the same issue. I'll try this. hopefully it is that. great vid brother!
Thanks for sharing, for the record 90 Integra has direct fuel injection with a fitv and iacv
This fixed mine immediately, thank you. It also immediately gave me a check engine light for #7 tps. I had a wildly surging idle and no 4th gear before so it's an improvement.
@johnny Macon Thanks good advice. Have to track down where the 4th gear pressure sensors are. I blasted the solenoids with brake fluid but they didn't seem to need it. Been adding more Lucas and seems to get better every couple ounces i add. Hesitate to put too much. I have an external cooler i'm planning to add too.
While this fixed my idle surge temporarily, the underlining problem was a leak in the brake booster. Hard to detect that leak... New brake booster, perfect idle.
Thanks very much for your reply mate. Ill have a look at that video. Thanks
Thank you so much I'm having the same problem with my civic and I just fixed thank you
TNX A LOT !!! VERY HELPFULL!!!! GREAT JOB!!!
I have a 1986 honda crx with same problem thanks for the video it fixed itself
Thank you Man !! i had it same problem with my '91 civic, but mine doesn't go with the bolt, mine goes on easy take it out. but again thanks for making this video.
This worked out for me, thanks yo !!
Shawn thanks for the info so far don't have that issue have 89 civic 327000
The problem on my 88 civic D16A6 was the Coolant Temperature Sensor. It communicates with the IACV and it controls how much fuel is delivered to the engine. When it goes bad, itl tell then engine to add more fuel, so you get random surges like in this video. The Coolant Temp Sensor sits right under the distributor, so its easy to replace and only about $20. So its worth a try!
I'ma check tomorrow morning. Thank you bro
Very informative video...thanks bro
Helped me a lot man
Great video!
Shoooooot, Trying this tomorrow man. Let you and yal know how it goes. 1991 Dx B2 Auto w/ Cruise control. Mine acts up right after the thermo opens up and before it's completely warm and started not to long ago say 180,000 and i just turned over 200,000. Wish me luckkk........
