- I fixed the problem. It turned out that the main ground wire to the engine was barely on at all, the screw that is used to hold it down was a turn or two from falling off. I cleaned the bolt and bought a new ground wire because it looked bad and I also decided to replaced the positive wire and now the car runs great.
I replaced:
The Rotor, The Spark Plug Wires, The Spark Plugs, The Ignition Coil, The O2 Sensor, The Coolant Temp Sensor. The ECU Computer, A New TPS, A new Air Temp sensor is on the way and I cleaned the Distributor cap and a new one is on the way.
I will update this video when I or someone finds a fix if I or someone ever does.
I edited this video with the CZcams Video Editor ( / editor )
Hi all so I got the problem fixed and it turned out to be a bad ground wire or multi bad ground wires. I have it running great now. I have fixed it up alot sense this video. :)
Where was the ground wire coming from?
Ground wire from battery to gearbox ?
Yeah what grounds were they?
@@jonathan62019 The ground from the engine to the frame.
@@TheDreamCarHi sorry but how did you find out it was the ground wire??
It makes perfect sense, the temp sending unit grounds out the same way the engine does, a bad ground would affect both.
I had something similar to your problem, when I take off from a stoplight it hesitates really bad then it drives normal once it gets up to speed. it turned out to be the ground cable from the engine I accidentally painted it so I took the paint off not it is back to normal.
thanks for your video.
Did the car make any farting noises? When i rev my civic si it makes a farting noise, and you have to plug in a negative into the ground to start it. But no check engine light.
Was it still giving you all the same problems after you changed out everything except the ground wire?
Did you have any issues with mis firing on high gears
I'm having the same problem. My "sweet spot" would be 2.5k to 3.1k rpm. It's so irritating. I had to turn off the car and turn it back on to stop it. I also need help. I don't know that to do.
What is the clanging noise I keep hearing? I think can hear it when you first press the gas and when you let off the gas pedal and let it idle down all the way.
I noticed it toward the end more I think.
That is the exhaust pipe, I think. It is hitting the body under the car, I plan to stop that.
My astra g 1.6 16v have this problem no have good power hesitation and when push the gas his first shaking what to change please
I have a 90 crx and I've replaced ECU, main relay multiple times and fuel pump won't prime...also it has a hard time cranking over it will click then for awhile then all of a sudden crank no problem
Hi, what was the problem?
We finally get to hear the camera guy!
From the erratic gages, I'd start with the basics, clean battery terminals and good ground connection to chasis, then pull trouble codes with a scanner to get hints from the computer, I've found a faulty thermostat through these codes, autozone will scann for free, then check the throttle position sensor, worn sensor produces hesitation while accelerating.
You are 100% right and thanks for the comment. I fixed the problem. It turned out that the main ground wire to the engine was barely on at all, the screw that is used to hold it down was a turn or two from falling off. I cleaned the bolt and bought a new ground wire because it looked bad and I also decided to replaced the positive wire and now the car runs great.
glad to be of help, maybe when I'm in Chicago I can stop by and say hi, good luck with the vehicle.
Ziggy Diaz 1990 you read the computer light
I did everything you did and no luck I have the same issue
You might have a headgasket giveing up slowly developing failure...if you drain coolant and add some liquid fixer and fill radiator with fresh water only and remove the thermostat then find out which cylinder is missing and remove spark plug from that cylinder you can find which one is missing by removing the spark plug wires one at a time while some gas is throttled up if engine gets worse it's NOT THAT CYLINDER.
Was the car jerking too? That's what mine is doing currently
Hi how did you figure out it was bad ground wire??
Hi, I have a 2004 PT Cruiser with new battery, terminals and alternator. The car has intermittent start problems. I had it towed to the repair shop again today. When they turned the key, it started. It stalled when I was driving it. I am wondering if a bad ground wire could cause these problems?? I am desperate
Check your crankshaft sensor, usually located on top or near the bell housing (Transmission flywheel)
They can be intermittent when they start to go bad and won't always throw a code until completely dead, you'll notice hard starting and cutting out while driving or at a stop, particularly when the engine is warm (operating temperature) and when it cools down it starts again.
Crankshaft sensor is responsible for telling the ECU the engine (crank) speed (RPM) and TDC (Top Dead Centre) of cylinder 1 so the ECU knows when to fire the ignition system.
You didn't say what kind of starting problems but I am assuming it just cranks and cranks normally (not slow) but won't turn over?
I honestly thought it’s the throttle body but I switched that out twice and still does it.
Mine does that at start but when I can get it to finally rev high it all stops and runs great
Did u find problem?
Hi mine too! Any idea why?
@@philipgutierrezmendoza4556 clogged catalytic converter bro
💯runs like a champ now
@@philipgutierrezmendoza4556 take out the O2 sensor just before the motor if it fixes the problems then the Catalytic converter is clogged. Easy free test you can't drive it like that well u can but it's loud and illegal. Just to assure it's the actual problem before spending money.
My car is doing the same thing 2010 Chevy Malibu but I never thought about checking the ground wire 🤔
Hey so after you fix the ground wire it run like normal cuz my Honda is doin the same
Yes it runs great now. It was a bad ground wire or multi bad ground wires.
@@TheDreamCar what ground wire was it? I’m suspecting my EF has a bad ground
Same Issue with my honda city. Try to replace the fuel filter.
It was a bad ground wire or multi bad ground wires. It runs great now.
Might be throttle position sensor
compression check is needed. might be a cracked piston or block
Thanks very much for the comment and I'll do one soon I hope and I'll let you know.
Friggin grounds. My tach is on crack too. Car so boggy. Check for vac leaks. Already have new spark plugs/wires. Dizzy and icm. Leaking oil from cam seals. Coulda fried my dizzy again.
But I think I have a bad ground too
how did u discover the problem did u take it to a mechanic?
I did discover the problem and it was a bad ground wire or multi bad ground wires. The problem has been fixed.
Any updates for this issue? My hyundai verna having the same issue...
Yes, it's been fixed and it was a bad ground wire or multi bad ground wires.
did it have acalabration PAC? you will need to transfer from old computer to the new
I don't know what that is, but this is a older car and I think all I needed to do was replace it and I'm good but I could be wrong on that, if I'm wrong please let me know.
I have almost the same issue with a Honda civic dx check engine light will come on and the car will not pass 2000 rpm and If i press on the gas it will shake like crazy
Honda civic 1990 dx
did u solved the problem bro...i have same problem with my honda civic 8th gen...did u get that problem reason
I haven't fixed it I being replacing almost everything and still no luck
I did compression test all cylinders came out with almost 200 in compression I replaced throttle body and intake o2 sensor crank shaft cam shaft sensor temperature sensor temperature relay I just dont know what else to do
any updates?
Its a serious problem?
Do a compression test
I’m having a similar problem with my VW.
Hesitation and misfire under load but over 2k rpm it’s a lot better. Misfires idling too.
Wondering if it’s a bad earth to the engine or if it’s the battery terminals now.
Thanks for the video
I actually had the same issue on my 1999 vw 1.8t Passat, I changed everything from coils to spark plugs, ECM, and it would work for a few weeks and then back at it again with rough idle and jerking around while driving. So I git fed up and was about to give up on the car when I found that the ground cable coming fro the coils was not screwed on properly and the bolts where dirty and corroded, so I took it apart and it seems like the owner before me with this car lost the original ground screw and just random put one in it's existing place which didn't fit, so I took it off cleaned it and like magic it all started to work with out changing out any new coils or spark plugs. So check on your ground connect and clean it up and hopefully that helps.
Draco Kid The ground connection was fine. Turns out all it was was high mileage on the spark plugs. They looked fine on first inspection but I had them out again and checked the gaps. They were about 3x what they were supposed to be! I reckon they are probably the same plugs it rolled off the line with. Just cleaned them up, closed the gaps and she’s running fine. Apart from the EGR and check engine light. But it’s a VW. The CEL is how you know it’s working.
I have a 2010 Dodge Caliber 2.0. It’s been misfiring off an on since last Fall. Last Fall I replaced the coils, and it ran good for about a month, then it started again. I replaced the coils and plugs, it ran good for another month, then back to misfiring. I just replaced the crankshaft position sensor and the PCV valve, it’s still misfiring. Next, I’m doing the PCM module. Thinking it’s electrical, as it only happens when the car is at operating temperature or if it’s hot outside. The misfire is worse during acceleration, obviously, and only misfires once in a while during idle. Idk what else to do, I will definitely be checking the ground cable and bolts for erosion though...
Gabbi Lane if your engine has them, replace the HT Leads from the coils. Resistance increases with heat and if the HT Leads are mostly shot, it only gets harder for them to work properly. Also make sure they are not touching the exhaust or cylinder head if possible.
check the cam sensor if your engine has one, as that can cause hesitation during acceleration.
A compression test might be wise if the vehicle has high mileage.
A clogged air filter or fuel filter could also cause misfire.
Good luck!
Oh! And also check the battery connections. That was one of the problems on my polo. The next was spark plugs needed replacing etc
Thank you so much, I will definitely be checking the cool leads and replacing the camshaft position sensor. It does hesitate around 20 mph-25mph. I’ll keep you updated!
You might want to do a compression test & see if any cylinders are down
You are right and thanks very much for the comment and I hope to do one soon.
It's a fuse or sensor
thats why my accelerator was sticking.
Could be injectors.
I just found my problem a rat chewed clean through a ground right on the wiring harness and this is exactly what my engine is doing
Oh geez, will I'm happy you found this video and thanks a very lot for leaving a comment on it and about that. :)
problem is corosion on terminals probably in fuse box ore relays static from alternator and audio devices do that even coolant electrolisys is posibel insulation on wires created from heat can damage insulators and moisture is deadly to wires if you have capacitors hocked up they can cause potential diference in baterrys culd by the automatic choke stuck try out spray's who protect insulators from brake down like any spray who preven moisture eating of insulators clean up all conections and try to see if you can finde some kinde of paste ore silicon to protect rosted out terminals that mostly acure at cold morning simptoms culd by bade ground to alternator as well might by a low octane fuel who make your spark plugs weat engine sludge diferent oil types are important as well hopely this helps you out gasoline engines dont like cold moisture air and condensation
Yes it's ground problem correct
Maybe a dirty throttle intake. It can get clogged up with carbon.
uberism81 it is misfiring. That could be it, but most likely one of the ignition wires could be bad producing a misfire in the cylinder, but idk...
Do some scrapping videos
We will.
Mine was the wire on the alternator
I had the same exact problem with my cavalier. It was a power wire grounding out! Took a long time to figure that one out. I put new coil and plugs in before I knew.
Mas air flow censor
Destrebetor row tore
Check spark plugs
He did, you didnt listen.
It was a bad ground wire or multi bad ground wires. It was great now.
Did you ever get to fix it? If you didnt just reply to this comment and i can help you with this.
Yes and I put the reason why in the title. It was a bad ground wire.
I also put the answer in the video description and here it is "I fixed the problem. It turned out that the main ground wire to the engine was barely on at all, the screw that is used to hold it down was a turn or two from falling off. I cleaned the bolt and bought a new ground wire because it looked bad and I also decided to replaced the positive wire and now the car runs great.".
@@TheDreamCar where did you get the ground wire and what type? I found a ground just hanging from the engine block that was supposed to be on the frame so I electrical taped it up and reattached but need to replace. Having issues and could be that it is bad. Thanks!
It was a bad ground wire or multi bad ground wires. It runs great now.
@@TheDreamCarCan you give specific description of where the main ground wire is hooked up to? Is it the one that is connected to the thermostat housing? Also, when you got the new ground wire put on, did you do it yourself? If so, can you describe the steps you took to get the job done? The details you can provide of where the ground wire goes from the connection to the engine to the other connection point will help greatly.
I think I need to replace my main engine ground wire, cuz I'm getting some hesitation when I rev the engine, and I'm looking for help from someone who has done this before. I have a 91 CRX Si. Thanks.
my honda do exactly the same but only at the Start!! 😳
You find out the issue
not yet 😞
tomorrow i'll check all ground wires

it plugs into the computer, if yours has it be careful to pull it straight out it will look something like a small stick of ram, not sure your has it but I ran into a simile r problem myself, also think you can access trouble codes by using a jump er under the hood there are Webb sites that will show you how. Good luck to you sir.
Ok thanks and I'll check into that.
Bad ground lolol can cause the worst issues
Yes, It was so bad it fired my computer.
Replace the car.
come on enyone will get tired from this comment ... but its funny hhhh
first
How do you fix that?? 2 ways. #1: the car is from 1990. Maybe it is time to get a new car. #2: you could change all the spark plugs, ignition wires, and coil, and that might solve your misfire issue
You can't when it's the only car you enjoy the most
It was a bad ground wire or multi bad ground wires. I have it running great now. I have fixed it up alot sense this video. :)
if you bought this car used God only knows, more than likely computer , make sure all ground straps are connected.
I bought it used and I had this problem before and the computer went out so I have already replaced the computer and it still has the same problem.
Idk why i feel sorry for the car. :( Lord help me!
