Please Ian, Help me, I have been trapped in this grocery store for almost a year because I still couldn't pick a chip..... Please make a essential chip guide vol. 2 and set me free from this LED hell with a bag I can comfortably call my own
love, Billie
good news
@@luigi7834 right
Billie, it's time to leave the store.
You've been in there a while soldier, and I'm not gonna lie; While you've been trapped in a capitalist hell, the world has changed.
I'm glad to be the one to tell you that you can finally return home though, chips in hand.
God bless, and thank you for your service.
So. What did ya end up getting?
I don't know why, but I remember as a kid that the plain Lay's were always used as a side to something, like barbecue or sandwiches, and it was the WAVY Lay's with the ridges that always got served at a family gettogether or a party paired with some sort of dip, usually a french onion. Anyone else had that experience or am I just an outlier? xD
I think that's pretty normal, yeah. At least I saw that a lot, right down to the french-onion-dip-specifically.
Not an outlier. That's been my experience too
I can’t relate but my household is usually a healthier house compared to the average American family. Only had chips on get togethers and it was usually Doritos lol.
@@eyoboyeegaming1187 oh yeah, doritos are definitely the healthier route 😂
@@mollywhoppedsouls_pvp I think you didn’t read what I said. I said we didn’t usually have chips in my house (meaning unless it was a special treat). Eating something on occasion isn’t bad for you lol.
I avoid the “blue heat” takis for being an unnatural color, yet the bright unnatural red of fuego takis seems falsely more reassuring, so I happily partake in those
Probably because the color red is generally associated with chili, paprika, tomato or any other common red vegetable. Blue, however...
The blue takis are more limey and reserved, still very good but somehow more brittle?
That doesn't really make sense lol
Red is a tasty color
there are more naturally red foods.
Requests from Chelsea and me:

• Garden Salsa flavored Sunchips
Video was so good I paused it to get some chips to eat while I watched. I love chips.
Backyard Barbeque, and the Bourbon Barbeque - Head to Head!
Yes
I already counted the background bodies in this video. Ian killed and immolated 18 people in the background of the grocery store. Looking forward to this episode.
Garden Salsa Flavored Sun Chips are freaking awesome. Also hi James!
Oh hello there famous person
I love Ian's awkward cadence. It reminds me of those old 90s local programming channels where the people never had much media training.
This whole channel basically is that
"Licking the taste with your minds tongue" is probably one of my favorite things that has come out of youtube.
I wish Ian could clone himself so that each and every one of his branching out ideas could have its own monthly series. They're all seriously that fun, nostalgic, and awesome.
But don't you know difrent Ian's hosts different shows, for mystery tapes it's Ian Mcmystery for brutle foods its chef ivan brutlefoods(and that sunflower ian in the latest episode)
It really cracked me up when people got all bent out of shape that Ian started doing food reviews. It's like, "Yeah, he managed to correctly predict what people wanted to see the old fashioned way without taking advantage of CZcams's algorithms in an exploitative manner... And this upsets you... Why??"

Plot twist: this is the “big video” he’s been working on for a year. And I love it lol
Yessss I wasn't the only one thinking that. "So... this chip project was what took him a year? Heck yes!"
Idek anymore lol. I love everything he does tho
2024 now. What ever happened to the big video then?
Fun fact: Brazil doesn't have the crunchy cheetos, they only have the puffs. whenever my partner's family from Brazil comes to the US, they eat crunchy cheetos at every possible opportunity. i was overexposed at after-school programs as a kid, so i don't like them but they're enamored with them
I wish we had the sour cream Ruffles he mentioned
That’s kinda weird that Brazil has one type but not the other. Wonder why…
We do have them now! I actually prefer it over the puffs, as well. Now we just need to have them Flamin' Hot flavored - we only had Flamin' Hot things as a limited edition thing.
This is an incredible series that I can't wait to see the next installment(s) of. Please review:
-Sun Chips (regular flavor, harvest cheddar)
-salt and vinegar chips
-Utz Ripple sour cream and onion chips
-jalapeno ranch Cheetos crunchy
Don’t forget Charles Chips. The Buttermilk Sour Cream are incredible to this day.

I like to believe the Bureau of Taste is just Ian’s partner. A single member makes up the whole bureau.
I believe so 🌈

It would entirely make sense and id be surprised if it wasn't
it absolutely is just 1 person
when the BoT gave the takis an A+ just out of spite for Ian I was like "yeah thats absolutely just BrutalBoyfriend"
Ian’s perfect attention to detail never ceases to amaze me. That Chester Cheeto torso theory got me wondering now.
got that adventure game eye!
Not chips per se, but Chester's Hot Fries really do it for me when I'm craving a spicy snack. I tend to eat the entire bag in one sitting once I open it. Also, how could you forget Tim's Jalapeno chips? The best flavor of Tim's by far.
sophisticated genius king
I also love those and will demolish a bag in one sitting😂
"You might be on the right track to licking the taste with your mind's tongue" might be my new favorite combination of words.
When Ian described the Pringles container as "tubular" it took me a moment to realize he was talking about the literal tube shape and not just using a 90's synonym for "cool".
Pringles are F Tier for sure. They aren't even chips, they barely qualify as edible or food.
Likely the most boring, uninspired, dull, emotionless snack on Earth is the Pringle.
@@n0isyturtle I adore Pringles....😭 the ranch is my favorite but the plain are a, yes, kinda dull, but still yummy snack
@@n0isyturtle are you insane? pringles, even the original ones are delicious. definitely leagues better than the excuse of a chip that is lays potato chips.
@@mel.0dy Pringles _taste_ amusing sure, but the fact that they're made from powdered potato flour gives them a fairly unappealing texture after a couple of seconds in your mouth, and even the taste starts to lose its appeal after about half a dozen.
@@mel.0dy Pringles are like eating salted packing peanuts.
I like how Ian put an original twist to the tier list style format. It’s much more entertaining than watching someone consantly eat chips and complain about how full they are by the end of the video.
Ian, I definitely think you should look into the “Miss Vickies Jalapeño” chips. They are salty with a nice crunch, and a little bit of a kick. These chips satisfy my taste buds every time I get them.
I love all your videos, Ian. I felt like I had to vocalize that fact and make sure you know your editing and production are just incredible. Thank you for your content and for being you!
as someone who lives on their own and constantly goes into CVS for a bag of chips or something, like, once a day, and walks out half the time with nothing...thank you. I feel as if this review is specifically meant for people like me.
CVS used to have their own in-store brand of hot cheese curl things, and they were better than any Cheetos equivalent out there. So of course they don't have them any more. :/
You make it sound like going to the fridge just to open and close the door.

I’m glad somebody else shares my love for the Cheddar/sour cream ruffles. I don’t know why but they go absolutely perfect with regular Mountain Dew , would highly recommend the combo if you like both
Greatest chip tbh
We need another episode of "The Essential Guide to Chips", next time would be good to review alternatives to the chips you reviewed in this volume (i.e more plain flavoured chips, more cheddar chips, new flavours of Takis, etc.)
Good idea

he's gay?
@@maybemadelyn Yes, Ian is gay. It’s interesting how few of his subscribers know and it’s a testament to how entertaining his content is. Ian’s videos are so full of personality and passion so much so that not many people care to know much about his personal life as they are enamored more so by his character. In short, I have never felt inclined to know more about his personal life because it seems irrelevant as his videos are already so candid and such a good representation of his person.

This series is a great idea, especially if you can start to branch out into other regions of the world. The whole idea of this is, to me, quintessentially brutalmoose. This is exactly the kind of content I'm here for. Please continue!
I second this
Also, Ian, you can buy snacks peer-to-peer internationally with Shop-and-Box. The shipping can be a little pricey, but nothing is more fun than when you can ask someone to buy stuff for you from their local stores and you get to try foods from other countries. I can vouch as I have done this before. I got cool candies from Japan!
When's he gonna try Wise Brands? They're the main regional brand here in the Northeast. That and Herr's.

Congratulations, Ian!
You DEFINITELY deserve to be doing what you & the rest of us love! Don't ever stop!
_Also, I REALLY need another VHS Mystery Tape video pleeeeeease._
It's astounding to me how many chips actually exist. Like there's a whole isle for it. It seems like such a small portion of the diet.
Breakfast cereal as well. It's odd how much space is devoted to certain very specific foods.
Why is there no potato aisle? I don't understand. Grocery stores should sell hundreds of different potato varieties. But they do not!
In japan they have onigiri aisles, if a snack catches on well enough it'll be everywhere
As a non-american, we only have three of the brands mentioned here: Pringles, Lays, and Doritos. It would probably be hell to organize but it'd be cool to see a video like this comparing chips from different countries.
i wanna try out whatever the hell takis are but imported goods stores sell them for like 15 dollars or something :(
@@lucy4666 In my opinion I think takis are really good and I recommend them and my favorite kind is the purple bag (fuego)

Glad to see that the Sweet Maui Onion Chips, a.k.a one of my favorite chip kinds of all time, was rated higher than the boring bland Classic Lays
Whenever most content creators try to branch out it feels forced and ends up pushing their audience away. When Ian branches out, it's always delightful. I'm also curious how you feel about the flamin' hot variant of cheetos. They've been a favorite of mine since I was around 13.

Really disappointed Ian had to sell his house and start doing his videos in The Void :(

Finally, the number 1 food critic graces us with his food opinions on chips.
I highly recommend Martin's brand chips. There's a ruffle style dipping chip, a cooked style chip, a BBQ one, and a sour cream and onion one. They are primarily based in the northeast apparently but they've made their way down to Northern Virginia somehow.
Martin's is the Sheetz of chips. Practically no one outside of the northeast has ever heard of it but everyone that has absolutely loves it

Religious would be fish, and politically would be the taste of dust.

I'm a Christian so I would say a religiously charged chip would taste like a kettle chip but laced with honey. Perhaps light and with a slight taste of cardboard like Jesus's body/wafer but also with a slight taste of a kettle chip and honey. ...I like kettle chips.
I don't follow politics so I don't know about that taste.
