This guy has been motivating me for years
Ok, I understand what are you saying. I understand that you don't want to settle for anything less than 1st place and doing your personal best especially since this is your life. However, please understand that in pretty much all these races you are getting 2nd or 3rd. That is something to be extremely proud of. Continue pushing to get to where you need to be, but also understand your little boy will grow up being extremely proud for the results you have obtained! Keep it up!
what a great athlete and dude!! such an inspiration
I was really hoping that one of the lessons from Augusta was "I need to do whatever is necessary to make myself one of the fiercest swimmers in the world", because I truly believe that your swim is the missing piece that's keeping you from world dominance. No one in the field has more grit - I've watched you up close and personally too many times to believe otherwise.
5:35 @talbot thanks for asking the tough questions, that needed to be answered and hopefully implemented before next season. I hope Lionel follows through and we see the BEST Lionel yet in 2024 and beyond. Onwards and Upwards 💪🏽❗❗️
We can hear the baby and I love it ❤
So impressed meeting you at Augusta . It was so nice to see how patient and enthusiastic answering young and old admirers! Me and my husband took a photo , we are the couple from the hotel that you were also staying with us at . We are the South Louisiana fans from Cajun country! You were a pleasure to meet !!!
Met him here in Finland right after the race, he had time to sign my cap and briefly chat. What a guy 😎
Awesome to see that Ari got his first top 5 finish at Augusta
Talbot, can you do another Best Of video for this season please 😘
5:35 is the key; Interviewer asks (paraphrasing): "you've talked about fixing aero, talked about fixing your swim... When are you going to DO it?"
Again, Lionel talks about building a team (coaches) and how it will take 2-3 years, and that's all he has left in him.
I've heard him talking about getting a better coach, improving his swim, improving his aero bike position, and improving his dedication/recovery/precision/diet. He's TALKED about this for YEARS. In his own words, it sounds like he still hasn't done it (successfully).
Not to be Debbie Downer, but think Lionel has peaked, and is on the decline. By his own admission, he never got serious enough about his triathlon career. He can TELL you what he needs to do, and everyone loves his videos where he SAYS what he needs to do, but he never does it. He is an elite triathlete, but not a professional.
That's the difference in a professional 2:02 marathoner and an elite 2:10 marathoner. 2:10 is FANTASTIC, but it's miles behind the BEST. (About 2 miles behind 😉.)
All we get now are videos with a disappointed Lionel telling us what he needs to do next time.
When an athlete says they might only have 2 years left, and are talking about becoming a coach, it's already over. 🙄
I was worried when I saw the quote on IG about not racing until you have something better to show, but this is reassuring.
I think the decisions that led up to Augusta happened because Emotional Lionel was in the driver’s seat, and I get that. But now, I think I’m hearing Logical Lionel talking, and that’s reassuring.
Lionel does amazing things when he has a plan and really COMMITS to it long-term. But Emotional Lionel, like Emotional All-Of-Us, is impulsive. And that impulsive nature is what led to Augusta, what led to this extended racing season that hasn’t been very productive. Put Logical Lionel in the cockpit, stick to the game plan no matter what, and we’ll see some truly incredible things happen in 2024. I already KNOW it.
Happy to see him back on the Tube 📺
It’s all about the journey 💪
Love watching you, don’t stop racing! 70.3 worlds were amazing
The day Lionel stops sharing his journey might be the day I cancel all of my social media accounts and give up training
Literally had the same thought haha
Wtf why? (I admit I laughed pretty hard at your comment). It’s been and is a powerful journey. Quite frankly no one else’s resonates with me much either. Vegan Cyclist does some wild things and is a great story teller but it’s more human interest. Lionel’s journey was one of attacking and trying to win Kona. That journey seems finished for him now because he is giving up on it and starting to do what all humans do and make excuses and accept lesser wins. But the fact is,
dreams dont sleep.
And it burn in him like a raging blue flame until he dies.
Something seems to have cracked in him after the last Kona. But he made the same dumb mistake he always does in trying to race Kona the week before racing Kona instead of tapering.
Putting CZcams on hold for awhile and truly dedicating himself to the dreams that are with him might be the best thing for him. Not for us who love his journey and story’s. But it’s now or never for him.
I am also a great Fan of Lionel and he is a great Inspiration, giving up social Media is ok, giving up Running etc NO 😊
😂
Same
Yes! The journey is what we love! Closely followed by W’s
I am a huge fan of Lionel...You are an inspiration to me.
PLEASE make longer videos
I really enjoy watching them. They are all GREAT!!
Longer would be even better
Thank you
Lionel - Your candor speaks volumes and is a tremendous quality. You truly deserve to succeed. I have a background that might help and willing to assist if I can in realizing those goals. Your trust comment is highly pertinent. At your level it is about surrounding yourself with those key people that you do trust and who can each contribute in a unique way.
Enjoy the off season LS! And we want to see more of your strength training and your Mum, too...Go Becky! Praying for your journey, Megan 🙏💪
Good luck! Easy to say, difficult to plan, few can do. The only way is moment by moment, one choice at a time. Its habit building. Learning to make the right choice, keeping true to yourself. Good luck!
Well I wondered why you came to Augusta too 😂 but it was still a thrill to cheer for you!
I love triathlon and i will do for life as a competitor hobby. But it is embarrassing IM payout. $2000 fot a professional third place when they make so much money.pretty, pretty much all volunteers + $400 to sign.up.
God blessing PTO !
Good work Lionel! Always one of my biggest motivation!
Thank you .
I love the people who comment about broken record, and blah blah, and you’ve got it figured out for the nth time. But here they are, still watching…
But from a fan of triathlon and LS among others, its nice to hear the unedited and honest conversations. The doubt, questions, and the determination from a pro. Just like most everyone else, just at an incredibly higher level. Keep it coming.
Good luck Lionel.
Good luck, Lionel!
Solid day Lionel, hope to see you at 70.3 Indian wells!
What up Lionel! I was at the mile 6 aid station and gave you the water at the end! So cool finally seeing you in real life!
Real legend!
I've got the greatest respect for you and what you've achieved in your career. I follow you a few years on yt and I'am seeing the same pattern over and over. From "I have to change this one thing to be on top" to disappointment. If you're not happy anymore with 2nd and 3rd at best, you should think about changing something.
...not in your training.
I feel your pain - 12 years with no external motivation for me. Couple so-so races only helps the internal motivation and vision on the process
I F'n love it!
F yeah!! Keep going Lionel!
I had the honor to stand arms length away on the finish line while watching you come across in Augusta (you were hauling butt). You looked disappointed despite having run a great race, but sometimes the energy just isn't there. I sincerely hope you stay in the sport. Can't wait to see what you bring to the table at the next event.
Please stay, Lionel! I want to race with you at least once in my life! Looks like I need little more time to get a pro card
Please get it right this time, Lionel!
We want to see you on the podium in Kona.
Favourite CZcamsr EVER 😂 Badass triathlete as well. Now or never baby..
Lionel continues to rediscover the same issues over and over. As he said, same as 2018.
we want to see you in NZ! COMMON!
Come on Lionel, you'll get that perfect race soon if you do things right!
Dude the reason why you raised more often is because you love it. And we love you loving it
I was s fan from when you showed your training Cave in the basement, and the day we followed you on a daily diet 😁
You did some amazing swift races also!
That was awesome videos.
In my opinion(sorry for having one😂), main focus on racing should not be the win, but the adventure of pushing to the limit with equals . And afterwards celebrate the pain and suffering with the other athletes.
Boy I’m ready for next season to see the Lion come back mad and hungry.
keep the uploads frequent!
Keep it up!!
Lionel, mate, you’ve got it in you, don’t get too frustrated with what hasn’t happened yet- make sure you are enjoying the journey as well 👊🏽
My hero Jan Frodeno finished his career in Nizza, happy to be 2 Meter from him at the start line for swimming, made a Short Video on CZcams, my second hero is Lionel 😊, please Lionel carry on your great work, you are a great Inspiration for many People and also for me to stand up and run at 5 o clock in the Morning, never saw you live, missed you in Nizza, saw there Mark Allen, Lange, Iden, Blummenfelt, Kienle, Detlev, Laidlov etc 😊
Love your videos. Have followed you for a very long time. I have completed 13, 70.3 ironmans and I totally get what you are saying. Have you thought of getting your levels checked? I found out that I have low thyroid and took meds and since I have gotten my energy and drive back. Just a thought.Stay strong and please dont quit!
Lionel rocks!
I like you. Your last video of yours was my first time watching. Like your high standards. I hope you can get up there.
Thumbs up for LS !
Love the way Lionel says “aerodynamically”
How can you not love Lionel?
Lionel!!!!! Come on man!!!! You are a monster man!! I see how you are not happy but please be positive. 3rd is amazing. I know first is the goal but……… come on.
Broken record, but entertaining
And admits he doesn't know what he is doing and thinks he can coach others. Always entertaining !
@@colindittmer.Does anybody know what anybody does?
Huge fan Lionel and you’ve forgotten more than I know on this stuff but maybe you need to incorporate a little more open water swimming practice based on how different it always is? Fired up to see you back at it!
It feels like every time a new video comes out there's a new change of plan :(
always makes me laugh
Prediction
You are going to get better in the swim these next 3 months!
Kinda depressing to see. Come to St Moritz and train with me next year. I’ll show you trails, descends, drills and love for sport you’ll never forget🔥 Commit to #thefinalpush
Do it Lionel
I think that through wins and looses LS is relatable because as triathletes we go through ups and downs and some days are great and some days not so great. You keep going Lionel. We are still watching.
Absolutely. When he says “I really don’t know what I’m doing” …that’s me. He’s me.
Love lionel to bits. His honesty and humor.
But I think that he's showing his competitors his cards. They know his strength and weakness. They then up their game. For example, he says what watts he's going to push. So they are going to push just slightly more. That's why he mot beating them on the bike. He's given them a headstart.
Would love to see you go all in on the PTO Tour next year.
As of now I don’t think he ranked high enough to get invited to PTO
@@adamreebs2585think PTO would be happy to give him a wildcard. With his fan base it’s very good for viewership
It's called addiction
Obsession when one thought over rules all other thoughts. He is right about himself recognizing the importance of refining his training, it's like that for any athlete. What I mean is tri to do races of better quality than races of quantity. I think what Lionel has left should be planned very precisely to maximize the no limits power and strength
The days of going all out no limits are becoming less and less. Would love to see you train smart and win a 140.6 world title
I think the whole sport wants that for you Lionel
Systematic approach! Lionel has bio mechanical and physical issues which need to be addressed. A lovable knucklehead who has been banging his head against the wall for quite some time. For example, if you are more aerodynamic and efficient on the bike, the drop in power numbers is not a huge deal because you will be fresher for the run or simply capable of riding the same speed while using less energy....i.e. leaving you fresher for the run.....where, once you fix that thing you call a running stride, you will be even faster. The running stride is most likely the result of single-sided breathing while swimming.
Can you please team up with Wattshop? I reckon Jacob, Dan and the team could get you rapid!
It’s been a good run Lionel. Retire and enjoy the next chapter. Tks for the memories
LIONEL ESTA VIVO!!!👀👀👀😅😅😅👍👍👍💥💥💥💥💣💣💣💣💣🤟🤟🤟🤟
Maybe focus on getting your Kona slot late spring 2024.
👊👊👊
I watched about one third of a new video Lionel/Talbot out out yesterday but didn't have time to finish. Came back and there is no record of it on CZcams. Not in my history or the LS channel. It was about aero testing with a guy named Mark. What happened?
"...You will not see ny race again unkess I am a better athlete...."
Yes, but how will you really know if you are a better athlete unless you do a race. Improved times for individual events do not necessarily always translate to a better race. You still have to put all three events together.
At this point, I think a lot of people might agree that we all want to see you really excel at an event... and you still have the potential for that (the Superleague performance showed you had good physiology, even when out of your element), but you might consider taking a several month or year hiatus (consider it a "reset") and focus on something specific, and be the best you can at that one thing. Do the Canadian time trial championships (like Paula did, I think it was). We all know you are a great biker. You are just having a bit of trouble putting all three events together lately. Maybe its age, but whatever the case, you need to prove to yourself that you still have the physioligy. Only way to do that right now is focus on one thing - not triathlon full time. Only do triathlon part time. That is the ONLY way you will get your confidence back.
If not something like Canadian time trial championships, then choose a completely crazy swimming goal like a famous 5 or 6 mile swim ultra and just swim train like a madman for 6 months. It cant possibly be any worse than your swimming performance right now anyway. Getting your speed back after you built up that huge base should be a non issue when you get back to triathlon. Or set a crazy impossible running goal for half marathon, and then do at least 6 prominent half marathons this year. That will prove to yourself that you still have the fitness.
What hydration bladder are you using on the bike?
2024 Kona champion. NO LIMITS!
Just enjoy racing
I detect a glitch in the matrix
How does 3rd place not cover expenses? Is IM that cheep? We all know their referees suck. So must their payouts.
Winner gets $4,000 usd… it’s a joke
only $2000
1st place was $30,000 in Augusta, I'm pretty sure it varies a whole lot between races. But yeah, hard to make a living. I think around 1,800 people participated (paying about $400 each), so about $720,000 involved in the race. Not sure how much went into operational costs, but about 7% went to athlete winnings.
@@halfmoonflyfishing$30,000 is the prize purse for the race, split amongst both the men and women. First place only got $4K each.
oh now that SUCKS@@wyku_sk
What size water flask does Lionel use?
Smart self analysis... It appears that getting older no longer gives any margin for error in inefficient form or technique.
Lionel, you just burn out a little. It's ok, it's normal. Return to base cycle. You still have 5+ years of improvement. But you need to have fun on your journey.
Does LS not play golf anymore?
Genuinely believe if Lionel was competing 90s early 00s he'd have been an unstoppable force without as much of the tech.
Hey Lionel, for bike aero and performance you should get in touch with Matt Botteril, billiant coach and TT specialist! good luck for next season mate!
He finally admits to being a broken record…I’ve been saying this for YEARS
Also needs to admit he’s un-coachable & thinks he knows best which he does not..
I think Lionel has the potential to win some gravel bike races! Am i wrong?:)
Epiphany number 8,453. This is it. He has figured it out again.
remember No Limits
5:10 is the real tragedy here.
Don't talk. Just do. Talk after. Goals LOVE talk. They hate do's.
You go into coaching I will hire you and I will watch you coach
Get Jan as trainer 😉
I’m so glad you’re not swearing anymore! You are such an inspiration and I want my kids to be able to watch your videos. Up until now, I had to wait until they go to bed to watch your updates. You will make a great role model for them. Thank you! ❤
F*^# honest, Lionel, as always (sorry for the 'f'-word)!!!
Yay no more f words! For someone with kids that can’t watch anything without at least one being around, I really appreciate.
Undoubtedly the over-reaching theme of this video is Capacity. I see another t-shirt in the works. Love this guy. Helped me face my own social anxiety and addictions, undoubtedly.
every athlete is hard on themselves but i truly believe Lionel is WAY TOO HARD on himself.
Love Lionel but not watching post race videos anymore…….
"This is my final push."
* panic *
"A 2-3 year process."
* relax...for now *
Would love to see some 72 hours + in the life as you start you're new training blocks....
When you ask LS for a "quick run through of a race" you ain't ever getting something quick.
