  • Today we are happy to share the final installment of the TR6's post work overview! Though, a spoiler, this car will come back - and we have video of one more fix that was needed.
We will share that very soon!
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy checking out the new wheels, as well as work done in the interior.
One item I forgot to note about the LED kit - they come with LEDs for many of the indicator and warning lamp bulbs, however, clearly states you cannot use an LED for the charging indicator bulb - the load the incadescent bulb puts on that wire actually triggers the alternator field coils - so with an LED, the alternator may not engage/charge.
If you are interested in getting an LED kit for your TR6, here's the company I went with - the kit came with everything needed to install, though a PWM will be extra.

The offer their own PWM that is ready to go and works with these cars:

If you are interested in learning more about PWMs here's a great page:
    siytek.com/how-does-led-dimmi...
Amazon does sell various PWMs, including very inexpensive multi-packs. However, it's hard to tell if they require seperate grounding. If so, it may not work. The issue is that if the wiring requires you ground to the LED being dimmed, well the dash lights are all run in a circuit with a single 12v wire going to them - they ground on actual gauge harness. So using a common ground should work, but I have read that some cheaper PWMs are finnicky and require grounding direct to the bulb.
Though I didn't experience this, I figured I'd share that tidbit.
I can say this - the litezupp kit with their PWM works great.

Great video. I recently bought a 1971 TR6. It has a lot of similar problems that you showed on the 1975 TR6. I look forward to seeing the upcoming videos. Thanks!

Since the rheostat is no longer in use it would be great to move the ignition switch to that position and eliminate the awful under dash factory switch

I really like that idea! That under wheel key is really awkward to use. My old spitfire has it on the center dash so I bet using that key assembly would be a fairly easy retrofit

I was fortunate to buy a 6 month old 1969 TR6 as a young man. These early cars had the ignition switch mounted on the plinth next to the choke. In 1970 they moved it to the steering column under the dash. From both a comfort and aesthetic perspective it would be great to move it to the rheostat position without modifying anything.
These cars were gorgeous when new and more so now in old age imo
