Take it from a sinner who is keenly aware of his many sins, which, sad to say, has diminished my credibility as a witness to the Catholic Faith on so many occasions in my life, we must never pass up any opportunity to embrace penance with love and joy. I pray each day to live long enough to do penance here on earth so that I can have some hope, if God willing and Our Lady interceding, I die in a state of Sanctifying Grace, of spending as little time in Purgatory as possible, recognizing that even one moment would be rather painful in comparison to anything I could ever suffer in this passing, mortal vale of tears.
"Penance! Penance! Penance! Pray to God for sinners. Kiss the ground as an act of penance for sinners!"
I just hope to make it to, Purgatory.

Pray to Jesus Christ for the graces needed for true and effective mortification. It might seem easy to start doing, but it's difficult to maintain as a virtuous habit on a daily basis.
A Priest friend of mine once said """every saint has a past....every sinner has a future""" I'm from Australia but if you can obtain a little prayer pamphlet called""""THE SURRENDER PRAYER"""" Words of Jesus given to Don Dolindo Ruotolo.""""" He was a saint and died in 1970. The pamphlet has his story. Its a Novena, and Friends,it has changed me and how I approach everyday challenges.Your Faith, Trust and Love for Jesus will grow in leaps and bounds.....Oh by the way I purchased it from ""Divine Mercy Publications Pty Ltd"" God Bless You......Amen.

A few months ago, for health benefits, I started reducing my daily food intake to one meal a day. It's really quite amazing how the body adjusts to the one meal a day. Yes, my stomach makes hungry roar noises in the morning, but then it settles down. Also, I don't feel an insatiable hunger before having supper, so I don't "wolf it down" when I take supper. Now, I need to learn how to really fast, that is not have any food at all. I think I am still too weak for that.
It's actually a popular diet fad now called "intermittent fasting", but is has nothing to do with spiritual things.
@@stevedoetsch that depends on the individual. Benefiting both ways does not necessarily lessen the benefit for the one imo

Osita Onyejekwe just keep trying you are preaching to the choir here. It takes years just keep trying and when you fail dont let it phase you dont let it make you feel horrible, pick yourself up dust off and jump back on the faith train.

@ Caprica city, Just start by trying, your effort alone will please the Lord, you will get better at it with practise. None of us are worthy, Christ did not die for us, because we were worthy. He suffered and died because he loves us, By trying to fast you show your love for him too. Fasting is not always about abstaining from food, it could be, fasting from Television, or fasting from judging others, with everything you do, offer it with Love.

What about diabetics ? Why don't we supposed to do that need to eat to keep our blood sugar level up ? I am all about fasting for god sake ! But what do we do so we don't go into a coma because we can't eat and keep our blood sugar up ? Before I became a diabetic I would be able to fast but now it's almost impossible don't like the word almost confuse you if you don't want to die by going into a diabetic coma you need to eat ?
Kent Barber Listen to Dr. Berg on CZcams about keto and intermittent fasting, it's actually great for diabetics plus can be offered up as a Holy fast.
Diabetics are exempt. Your health circumstances are taken into consideration. This is the teaching of the church. So instead of no food, try just having blander food with less flavorings as an exercise or penance.
Eat what you dont like.
