    Thank you for this series. There is serious risk of complacency among traditional Catholics coming from feeling superior to the Novus Ordo. Without humility, penance and solid foundations of spiritual life we may lose our salvation, and no amount of ‘tradition’ will help us!

    Thank you, Father, for taking time out of your busy schedule for this series. I am wondering how saints who practiced bloody scourges didn't become anemic. Anemia over time causes many severe ailments in the body. I guess God prevented it. Also, how does the Church know so many details on the mortification and sins of Saints? Seems like those details were told to their confessor in the Confessional or to Spiritual Directors. How is the seal of the Confessional not broken and/or confidentiality? At a time when Spiritual Direction is practically non existence for most, I cannot thank you enough. Thanks for sharing the wisdom of Spiritual writers, Rodriguez, Royo, Tanqueray, along with the mystics like St Teresa. Too many books to read. I am glad you read them and are sharing!

      Most of the things of the saints we read from were found out by accident or circumstance. (For example of St. Alphonsus, people found out because he had to wash his clothes, or they knew he had washi by items in his room to cleanse the blood.) some things were revealed to spiritual directors as well outside of confession.
      If the confessor were to say things that were not sins but virtues after the passing it would technically not break the seal, however the Holy See did end up commanding that not even virtues could be revealed if they came to the knowledge of the director during confession in order to avoid even the appearance of the breaking of the seal.
      Saints who practiced gruesome penance did it under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost. That’s why we shouldn’t engage in anything like that without proper counsel and guidance.

    One trick for mortifying the eyes is to go to the drugstore and get strong reading glasses. Walking around with reading glasses on makes everyone blurry and easy to ignore. It’s not good for driving but very good for everywhere else.

      @thecatholicwire  Před rokem +8

      I would not recommend that. Your eyes would try to get used to it, and I believe that would eventually cause harm.
