The Warriors Beautiful Offense: No Durant, No Problem

The Warriors are up 3-0 against the Blazers in the NBA Conference Finals, and their offense has been great with Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. Despite lacking great shooting around their stars, they're able to create open shots due to their motion, screening, and smart basketball IQ. I breakdown how they counter coverage's, their post split, and more. KD, Kerr, bucks.

If raps win and warriors goes 2-0 they are not going to Toronto and making it 2-2 😂😂 and if bucks win warriors are winning 1 or both in Milwaukee and finish it in Oakland. Either way it’s inevitable warriors will win unless injuries and all star align for opposing team

They win and Joe Lacob / Bob Meyers extends Klay, Dray & KD with long term contracts, hopefully they can pay Looney too. Everyone hoping for the Dubz demise will be pissed. Lacob is already committed to paying these guys what they are worth. In early February, Lacob made it clear that the Warriors "can do whatever we want" financially. "We have the capital to pay our players what they deserve. And we will."

As a Blazer fan, this is so accurate. While Portland is very talented, they go through too many stretches where Dame and C.J. try to play hero ball. Because of their pure scoring mentalities, they will still get their buckets, but you can't rely on that style for 48 minutes against the Warriors, especially with their constant traps on Lillard. As much as I'm sick of Golden State, they are poetry in motion.

He unleashed Curry and Klay. Made an offense that even makes bench players effective (and wide open on soo many plays). Turned Draymond into a weapon. Made their devastating small ball of death lineup, made the hampton 5 lineup. Not to mention they've ranked in top 10 defense for most of the years under him.

Agree with Alex... many of the selected illustrations actually did not go in.... but the play is still good in principle
And IMO this illustrates a coaching strength...Steve Kerr trusts his players whether the ball goes in or not. He knows that statistics are on his side if his best players remain confident and keep shooting when they are open.... regardless whether the last several shots happened to go in or not

It is good that videos like this exist. I used to think that the NBA was nothing more than guys jacking up shots. It’s easier to see the plays called in college ball.

Ding, Ding, Ding. I am so enlightened by this video. Thank you. How can you teach this to NBA voters & it’s media? Your presentation takes the complexity in today’s bball schemes that would educate all these analysts especially former players who only knows brut force tactics ala gladiators. We have evolved from this primitive state people!

Can't run these plays without great off the ball shooters like Steph and Klay though. Still, I agree it is fun to watch. The off ball screen principles seem to apply in any halfcourt situation - basically Steph and Klay moving off the ball, and the other three guys setting screens for them and getting them the ball on pin-downs.

This is how you play basketball, moving the ball, moving without the ball, making plays for teammates and involving all the roster! You can't win by using only iso play or 2 of your players

This is where good basketball comes into play. Taking advantage of the player's strength and weaknesses formulated by the coach and its staff, and the player's intuition and executing it through practice/experience. You just can't have one over the other, you must have both. Kudos to GSW! The only way you could beat a durant-less GSW is when both(or one) of the splash brothers are having a bad shooting night or the opposing team having a VERY good shooting momentum. There's really an unshakable feeling of threat having 2 shooters who moves well around the court, this just consistently drain the physical/mental aspect of their opponents and you can't do anything about it until the splash brothers go past their prime.

    • @marcussmith5529
      @marcussmith5529 Před 5 lety

dexterz dex you cant beat the GSW unless you are the GSW. Even if one or both of the splash brothers are off, they’re still a threat just because you have guys like Draymond Green who can single handily destroy you on a one man fast break or guys who know how to step up when called upon. It’s incredible to see a team dissect a team throughout the game in short amount of minutes. These guys are the reigning champs for a reason; they don’t just play to for the love of the game or money, but for the championship at the end of the season & to actually win. The Warriors are a dynasty and continue to become better every year as they’re core 5 Steph, Klay, Dray, Iggy, & Livingston stay together

Good coaching, good plays. The plays often work because the Warriors are well-practiced at executing them.
The Warriors do the same sort of thing on defense: they have plays they run against whatever look the offense offers.
They'll make a showing of a wall to keep out a drive to the bucket, then sprint to cover when the ball is passed. Getting the timing right is difficult: show for too long and it'll be an open shot after the pass, show for too short and the offensive player with the ball might get to the hoop anyway. It takes a lot of practice to get it right.
The Warriors have been throwing a fair number of double-teams against Lillard, and he's struggling with them. His natural inclination is to shoot the long ball, or penetrate and pass once he has collapsed the defense into the paint, or exploit a lane if one opens up. But if he's been double-teamed way outside of the arc, there is no shot and no path to the basket. He isn't well-practiced at getting rid of the ball early enough to prevent himself getting into a bind, and the Blazers haven't worked on a screen and slip to defeat the double-team. The Warriors have harvested turnovers from those double-teams, wasted shot clock seconds for the Blazers, and generally disrupted their offensive rhythm.
Both teams have plenty of talent. The difference is largely in clever plays and excellent execution by the Dubs.
And maybe motivation. I got the sense that when the Warriors execute come-backs, as they did in the last two games, Portland's spirit has been broken.
Lillard's separated ribs aren't helping. I can't imagine trying to play ball at any level with an injury like that. Even breathing hurts; trying to do athletic things with that injury is intensively painful.
What this series most reveals is Stotts' need to deepen the Blazer's playbook and drill his players on it. They need to have answers to what the other team is doing to them at both ends of the floor.
Thanks for making this video, Daniel.
