- Wednesday 26 June - as Richard was off work we drove to Aston Rowant Nature Reserve which is a favourite place of ours in the Chilterns, though were surprised by the distinct lack of butterflies this year;
Saturday 29 June - back at the plot I'm sowing further lettuce from our saved seed which I think is Marvel of Four Seasons. I also split and pot up into a trough four miniature roses I bought at Lidl a few months ago. The plants have done well on our windowsill in the kitchen, though now they need more space.

Paul's series 'A Week at the Plot' is his mini vlogs of what he's been up to at the plot each week; little and often, and all about gardening, what's growing, being sown, harvested, enjoyed and much more at our UK No Dig allotment in West London.

Odd dried grass patches. But at least that wasn't crime scene tape around them. Hopefully, the butterflies will learn to avoid the dead zones.
A bit of lemon juice in your water bottle, no sugar, will help that sore throat. That and salt water gargling. Hope it clears up soon.
Whatever lettuce comes up from the saved seeds, it will be delicious. :)

beautiful view, you are such a hard worker in your garden, God Bless
Hiya Paul, nice visit with you today. Will like and comment below. Take care. Southern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🐝
I hope you are feeling better soon, Paul. I agree with you about the allotment visit being like a reset. I haven't noticed many butterflies here in South Wales this year.
Its such a shame usually summer is thronging with Red Admiral I have only seen one sadly. Definitely a lack of them which is so sad as I absolutely love Butterflies 🦋 I suspect the annual Butterfly watch will reflect this. Try Pinus Sylvestris Oil on your pillow great for airways and night time comfort. Get well soon .❤
That beautiful buddleia at the end! 😮. Mine is white and was a gift from my mother about 20 years ago.❤ They are considered invasive here in RI but I keep it from going to seed like a good gardener.😉
I'm going to watch both videos together this morning, super relaxing for nearly an hour 🙂
Enjoy... hopefully! 😁
Beautiful scenery at the beginning of the video. Thanks for sharing that with us. It has been a different year for butterflies but I’ve had lots of bees which has been different to see so many. You make planting lettuce seeds so easy and a good idea to break up the roses and plant them separately. Love watching your videos as they are relaxing and I always learn something from them
I watched this yesterday; it quietly and helpfully explains the pollinator situation this year - czcams.com/video/Io96wApYgRQ/video.htmlsi=EQ-0fnCZ4RWdXqYA 👍👍
❤
We have indeed dipped into the cold... had our first major frost (-2c I think it was). But I'm happy to have self sown Pak Choi to harvest and my brassicas and lettuce that I planted out seem to be doing ok (I also had a harvest of probably a bit of a kilo of volunteer potatoes that came up as a result of the frost)... so it's not too bad... but I am looking forward to the next major growing season.
I saw only one butterfly in my plot yesterday. Sorry you have caught a cold. Have some good rest and lemon tea.
Having rest... and being a bit laxy, and feeling a tad slow... 😬
Hi Paul, I’m growing Marvel of four seasons and they look very different to yours 😂 any chance they outredous?, I recollect you growing these some years back. Liked the splitting down of AWATP!
So far I've only seen 1 cabbage white butterfly at our allotment and it wasn't on my plot 🤷. Jo Devon 🙂

Concerning the ‘lack’ of butterflies (and other insects), none other than Dave Goulson did a video on that recently: czcams.com/video/Io96wApYgRQ/video.htmlsi=PayNM1AKO6a7SkKL
Whats happened to blue skies and sunshine. Cloud seeding. Still going on.
well, of course cloud seeding is human intereference which itself has brought about the climate crisis we now find ourselves in the middle of. 😬
How beautiful and peaceful. Not many insects or butterflies in Pembrokeshire either. 🧡🩵💛💙🩷❤️♥️💚
I watched this yesterday - an expert explianing why the insects are as they are this year. 👍czcams.com/video/Io96wApYgRQ/video.htmlsi=EQ-0fnCZ4RWdXqYA
