  • I spent virtually my entire adult life in a fully dissociated state with depersonalization-derealization disorder, not even knowing what I had. I went from 18 years of being dissociated to now completely recovered and talk about the steps that got me there, and how recover is entirely attainable.

    I’ve been suffering from derealization disorder for over 12 years now. I wouldn’t wish this upon my worst enemy.

      Check out Jordan Hardgrave's coaching. He adds in some right wing bs and Christianity but his trauma healing techniques (which I believe resolve dpdr) work, in my opinion. Wishing you recovery, as it is possible.

    I stumbled upon your depersonalization documentary just around the time I got depersonalized; ever since then I have thoroughly valued the act (producing personal videos on the issue) since it has made feel understood. I am glad you are fully recovered now and I hope that I will say the same thing for myself one day. Cheers.

      Thanks! If I can suggest anything while you're going through this difficult time, you may want to try progressive muscle relaxation and other recovery techniques on Jordan Hardgrave's channel and see if they help.

    I have chronic derealization 24/7 for 27 years now. It makes me so incredibly sad. I miss experiencing myself and the world. I miss being here. It just started one day and never went away.

      I recommend Jordan Hardgrave's body based approach. You can find info from him free on CZcams. It's extremely scary, the scariest thing I've ever been through, but I'm recovering from yet another bout with this approach.

    Thank you for this and I’m glad you’re better! I’ve been stuck in DPDR for 3 years now after stopping a benzo I was prescribed nightly for insomnia that I took for 5 years. The withdrawal was pretty brutal and I guess my mind and body couldn’t handle it so I got stuck in this state as a coping mechanism. It’s like I’m stuck in fight/flight/freeze every day.
    It’s really hard to live life in this state and have hope of it going away. It started when I was 27 and I’m 29 now. I did break free from it a few times but only for a few hours. It felt amazing to feel like myself again. It hasn’t happened since though.

    • @FlyingOverTr0ut
      @FlyingOverTr0ut  Před rokem +1

      If I can recommend anything, which I realize can be very difficult to hear as when I was in the midst of DPDR, you may want to try things like progressive muscle relaxation and see if it makes any difference for you. I'm not saying it will work right away or make things easy, but my experience is that this is one of the best things I can do to stay healthy and recovered.

    Oh my goodness, this is EXACTLY what I went through after quitting alcohol. The exact same symptoms. It started with waking at 3am one night experiencing an extreme panic attack, like someone holding a plastic bag over my head suffocating me while also holding a taser to my central nervous system. Also, like you said it was much worse at night. I could only sleep during the day. I think I slept 6 hours total in about 2 weeks. I thought I was going insane. I couldn't stand in a shower or even be indoors because the walls would close in on me. I walked 17 miles in one night. Fortunately it got better but I couldn't imagine going a full year in that state. I'll never touch alcohol again that's for sure... scared straight. Anxiety disorder is a nightmare. Exercise really helps me too. Vigorous exercise daily. I also take some supplements now like 5-HTP, L-Theanine, Magnesium, GABA, Ashwagandha, Tumeric and B vitamins that stimulate serotonin, dopamine. They really help a lot without needing to be on pharmaceuticals which I really don't want to be on for life.

      @@FlyingOverTr0ut Thanks! I still have little triggers but at least I understand that now and realize that it's only temporary. It was just a terrifying experience, not knowing if it was a permanent condition or if I would need to be on pharms for the rest of my life. I'm taking really good care of myself now and hope to never experience that again. All the best on your recovery and health as well.

    What’s the difference between dpdr and schizophrenia? I don’t hear voices or see things that aren’t there but dpdr makes you feel like you are going crazy

    • @FlyingOverTr0ut
      @FlyingOverTr0ut  Před 8 měsíci +1

      DPDR really does make you feel like you're losing your mind. It's hard. But you're not, though. In my experience, complete recovery is possible, as desperate as I was. I recommend going to Jordan Hardgrave's CZcams channel and try healthy techniques he recommends. In the moment, nothing feels like it will help. But somehow it has for me, and I believe it can for others with DPDR.

    • @mfrancisco_850

      the main difference is that your reality testing is still there meaning you know what is real but something just feels off. i never heard voices or anything like that but just felt like i was out of body all the time and numb to everything.

      @@mfrancisco_850 that’s a good way to put it “reality testing” it’s such a weird experience though… still have flashes of it but I’m so much better than I was in May of this year.
