My friends cat always jumps on me and starts kneading my stomach.
Well, the cats I encounter in my neighborhood apparently see me as a threat and run away when I get within 5 meters distance.
When I was pregnant, my cat loved to climb up on my knee as I was sitting on the sofa and lay against my belly. She was always careful not to put her full weight on it - she would just rest her head there and purr. And once my son was born, she'd lie beside his crib when he took naps during the day, snuggle up beside him and me as I fed him and even sit beside him when he was on his playmat, watching him play. I'm pretty sure she saw herself as his 'second mum.'

@kara davies, some years ago I had a cat who used to regularly bring me 'presents' most of which were still alive - especially baby birds, baby voles among others.
In fact she once brought home a live blue jay with an injured wing and it was flying around my kitchen when I got up. The funniest part about that particular incident was that I had a visit from my local beat bobby and he was absolutely terrified of birds. It was hilarious to see such a big butch copper refusing to enter my kitchen because of it being in there and he made me promise not to open the connecting door to allow it into my living room where he was intent on remaining throughout his visit.
She also brought home dead birds and animals, e.g. I once found a huge dead rat on top of the wall in my backyard, a dead magpie floating in an old flip-top bin which I'd discarded and had filled up with water in the backyard and the best / worst one that I ever found and almost stepped on one morning was a dead bat which she'd caught and killed and dumped right in front of my cooker. There was obviously no competition between her and myself when it came to the dead bat because as we all know they have sonic 'radar' and can instinctively detect predators by using it, can't they?

Currently in a moon boot on crutches, pretty much on house arrest. My younger cat spends all day on my lap, my older cat started sleeping against shoulder at night. They are wonderful creatures.

Actually my cat, when your sick, doesn't leave your side. Stays in bed with you all day, follows you to the toilet and back. Just will not leave your side. He doesn't do that at all when we're not sick

I had a distressed mother cat jump from the floor to our throat like a lion hunting a gazelle multiple times, because her kitten hanged himself upside down from a hind leg underneath the couch. The kitten screamed murder and the mom went into a blind rage of instinct trying to defend it. I don't think brain freeze would do much there. I got a whole new respect for the little predators and i think they would be able to do real damage if they set their mind to it. It was really hard to get the mom out of the room to save the kitten. We had to really fight the mom, while trying really hard to do no damage. She kept jumping us, trying to bite and scratch any surface. There was no grabbing her. Never seen anything like it.. I suspect she was already suffering from a post-partum psychosis before this happened, and just went berserk. Anyway, everybody got away with just some scratches. The mommy cat recovered from her hormonal anxiety and turned into a really sweet companion. But i know now, If a cat really wants to kill you, you are in trouble, it is terrifying..
There was a cat who identified as being my husband's cat. I woke up to find it on my face, preventing me from breathing. When I tried to move her she dug claws in to the corners of my eyes in that "not quite punctured...yet" way. She simply would *not* move, and since I couldn't speak(mouth full of cat hair) I had to wake DH by hitting at him and uttering muffled screams. We started shutting the bedroom door after that! To round out the torture...I'm allergic to cats if I get their hair on my face.
Mom cat responds violently to the pained cries of their babies. Your cat probably can't understand why her kitten is distressed so that why she was attacking everything and everyone trying to save her baby.

They've been ignored a lot the last year since I had a second baby and our toddler hasn't figured out chasing them with cat toys is NOT playing. Cats are just choosy about their people. Even in my house, only one like any husband. He's not very fond of them but has never treated them poorly 🤷🏼♀️
