There’s many rich countries with social democratic governments that don’t have these massive numbers of extreme poverty. @@pansepot1490 back when i was in college i studied economics, and at that time the 'pareto optimality index' had shifted from 80/20 to almost 85/15 in the UK and this was 12-13 years ago, at this point in time i wouldn't be surprised to see it even lower and see a 90/10 split or worse, furthermore like i sad in my original comment it's a trend seen in almost every single 'developed' nation with a socio-economic structure as the UK/US etc where the more wealthy the populous as a whole becomes in relation to others around them, the more polarised the wealth disparity becomes making a larger proportion of that population unable to escape poverty leading to what you see here in this video, it also doesn't help that the current government as well as those that have come before have done nothing but cut spending in key areas of the nations programs to help those most in need and seen the the largest growth in those already wealthy get even wealthier to the point where those individuals could and should be taxed more heavily to help support those who cannot through no fault of their own support themselves, sadly the conservative government seems happy to look after thier own members and keep the wealthy happy than see a country wide redistribution of wealth to those that need it and see the 'poor people' start to get back on their feet.

@@pansepot1490 Yeah the current dire situation the UK is in can be traced directly back to the Tory government that came into power in 2010 and never left. They keep getting voted in because appealing to paranoia about immigrants is a surefire way to win a British election. Here in New Zealand our equivalent of Jeremy Corbyn, Jacinda Ardern, she won her election, the reactionaries who were running the country got booted from power and surprise surprise a progressive government is better than a right wing government. The answer to your problems was right in front of you for like 5 years and you kept getting it wrong, three times in a row. It was very sad and annoying to watch.

@@rogoth01themasterwizard11 the tories ideology is to privatise everything, that's why they always cut funding for all public services. It's so they can use our money to give tax cuts to big corporate businesses and the wealthy. And they erode workers rights, try to exploit the work force. This is why there is more poverty and the divide between the haves and have not's is growing wider. If they hadn't given these tax cuts for the wealthy since 2010, there would be more than enough money to properly fund public services, like the NHS, road repairs, local councils, police, welfare, state pension, infrastructure, education and schools etc etc

The whole free school meals hits a sore spot for me. My school keeps going on about how they want to help disadvantaged children and they put in a bid to finance a free school (which they lost) but when the thing for free school meals came around, they refused to do anything despite multiple letters from students asking them to do something.
Please bear in mind that my school is often seen as snobby and the fees are upwards of £13,000 a year so most people who go there have money to spare. They didn't even do a funds collection, they just refused to do anything.
Then a nearby sports club started fund collecting to pay their caterers to come in on the off days and cook huge meals. I only went to my school because it had good support for my learning disabilities so we didn't have much money to spare to give. Then the club asked for volunteers to deliver the food to families and my mum and I immediately volunteered.
To this day, that was probably the most worthwhile thing that I have ever done with my time because it really helped me understand the struggle that some children who are less fortunate go through.
Sorry for the essay, but I just thought I'd share it as it really showed to me that anyone can make a difference even when the top dogs refuse to help.

Don't worry, politicians the world over look after themselves before anything. The Australian government refused to increase the unemployment benefit by $100.00 a week (14.28 per day), leaving it at the $40.00 a day it was. 2 weeks after denying the unemployed a rise, the government voted in favor of a $400.00 per week pay rise for themselves...that is $57.14 per day.
Yes, politicians got a bigger pay rise than the whole of the unemployment payment. And that went on top of the pay they were already getting!
And you expect them politicians to forgo their subsidized meals in order to help the people they are SUPPOSED to be SERVING? Hold on to that dream! It's all about the money for politicians.

      Useless but interesting fact:
What Antoinette actually said was "let them eat brioche" (a type of French bread-like cake that was far too expensive for the poor people in Antoinette's time).
Because she had grown up in such a rich and sheltered environment, there's a good chance that brioche subsidised bread in her diet. This means that when she said "let them eat brioche", she could have actually been saying that the poor should've been given food.
That quote, however, has been mistranslated into English so it takes on a different meaning.
This is just a theory though, and it might be as is commonly thought, meaning that she didn't give a damn about the people.
Another random fact: her last words were "veuillez m'excuser, je ne voulais pas me tenir debout", meaning "please excuse me, I did not mean to stand on your foot" (she said this after she accidentally stood on the executioner's foot).
So there you have it: a couple of completely useless but mildly interesting facts that relate vaguely to your comment but not at all to this video or our government.

      Here’s the breakdown:
“Private companies are awash with ten billion pounds worth of public funding for a test and trace that barely operates. Taxpayer money is lining the pockets of companies from Deloitte to Serco. The eponymous ‘NHS test and trace’, in fact, has nothing to do with its namesake. Stop giving tax cuts to the wealthy and put the personal tax allowance up and minimum wage up to help the rest of us lower payed. They didn't need to increase the 40% tax threshold up to £50000 before you go into the higher rate band. And for those who don't understand how it works you only pay the extra on amounts above the threshold, so if you earned £60000 for example you would pay an extra 20% on the £10000 over the threshold, so that's just an extra £2000 in tax per annum
