"Well theres air in it" lmao
Yes, one of the best lines - pure Basil.
I know. I heard what he said
Are you Basil's echo?
As a much travelled but now retired sales rep for 45 years in country New South Wales ( Australia) can guarantee we Aussies have our fair share of Basils in hotels and motels. Blokes who have been lured by the notion of running such places but with no people skills and no idea of what hospitality means. Often the long suffering wife would patch over Basil like shortcomings but eventually would pack it in and leave him to it with often catastrophic results.
Clees and Co have captured these results beautifully!
I think the character of Basil Fawlty was based on a hotelier they met when they stayed in Torquay. A former Royal Navy officer and war veteran who became a hotelier when he retired and hated it and really did treat guests like that.
@@freebeerfordworkers It was Paignton.
With classic shows the supporting actors all deliver as well
Two singles - if that’s alright with the police. Proper, clever comedy from a superb cast.
One good clip is when the guy asks batteries for his electric razor and Basil understands something quite different !
Good shout! Here it is: czcams.com/video/HIJ_DjQ1nkY/video.html
Great! Thank you so much ! (in Basil's voice).
SecondMe That's a brilliant moment. "Well that was what I was referring to when I said it was "DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!" I think it is "DISGUSTING" that you haven't shaved. Understandable. It is "DISGUSTING" when I don't shave either".
Terrific scene. " The Wedding " my favourite episode. Love the scene where Mrs Peignoir is lying on Basil slightly drunk and Basil tries to make excuses to the Wilson's and you can see this Mr Wilson's expression in awe of John Cleeses performance. I think Mrs Peignour is actually in hysterics without laughing.
"A satisfied customer ........... we should have him stuffed."
England. This was a great time
Yes before the loony left ruined it
@@martincornish3179 hmm yes, a right winger like little Boris would do so much better.
@SavageArfad yes because of the PC police great comedy shows like this can't be allowed anymore.
Yes it was great not being able to share a room with someone if you weren't married. And people complain about the woke brigade today? You losers.
@@martincornish3179 This is a fantastic show but it was never chance of it being not allowed.
Jean looks like Princess Diana, I think.
And just as horny.
Frank Garrett Oh fugg yew.
Natasha Kershaw Much better.
A prettier version
The actor Trevor Adam’s who played Alan sadly died of cancer in 2000 at just 54. Very sad.
Alan looks like one of the blokes from abba
You're thinking of a young Björn Ulvaeus. It's the haircut that does it.
That’s a nice suit
What? did you say something .?
Markus Forsberg No!
At 0:24 she starts singing Mozart's 'Queen of the Night' aria :D
THE LAW OF ENGLAND!
Great thumbnail, LOL.
The woman is brilliant in this clip in fairness.
We need more shows like Farty Owls
Tony Webster..from Fall and Rise of Reginald Perin..."GREAT"
Actress April Walker, she was a cutie-pie. She was leaning over to give Cleese a peek at 1:20 and 1:44.
She is indeed such a gorgeous woman
Saying that some women do that deliberately is asking for trouble now.
April Walker (female guest) was originally cast as the companion in Jon Pertwee's final season of Dr Who. But Pertwee decided she was taking the attention off him and so she was paid off and the part recast (Liz Sladen)
That statement about "Pertwee decided she was taking the attention off him" being the reason April Walker was let go, is completely incorrect and unfair to Jon Pertwee. I suggest you get yourself better educated on the topic and watch the Time Space Visualiser interview by Alex Moore with April Walker. In her own words she said that Pertwee felt she was miscast and inappropriate for the role. Pertwee was envisaging some small with dark hair, who could be perceived more like a daughter figure, whereas April Walker was tall and blonde, which saw her potentially seen as the Doctor's mistress. Given Doctor who was orientated mainly towards children and younger people back then, this casting choice could have been questionable. Barry Letts jumped the gun by giving Walker the part without pre-emptively consulting Jon Pertwee, so if anyone is to blame here it would be Letts. While Pertwee tried to explain his reasons to Walker later on when they did work together, she said she would never forgive him.
When he asks him for battery,s ,,😅😅😅
Sad to think that Basil sees in this couple everything he wants from his own marriage/sex life, and can never have ☹
And many stuck up Brits don't have...
It’s comedy. Let your sadness depart, never to return.
Hence his reaction to them lol
I think his behaviour in this episode shows he doesn’t understand friendly affection that isn’t romantic
@@sashaking1115Not really, no.
But then again he is an emotionally stunted [fool] stuck in a marriage he resents, so… there’s that, too.
Funnily enough I think Cleese is exactly right when he says that whilst Basil always seems to nominally want sexual escapades, if he actually ever found himself in one he would be horribly, horribly overwhelmed.
And so, this is not just him being miserable at the kind of life he’s leading versus the one he thinks he desperately wants to lead, it’s him somewhat relishing in his miserableness because it’s oddly comforting in a way.
John cleese superb actor
Definitely but Clees would admit there's a bit Basil in himself. That's how he made the character so funny and believable.
Basil would definitely be a Pro Lifer
Not when he was in the Korean war he wasn't, he killed four men.
I don't think I've ever seen this episode
The Bruces are so naughty!
"He was in the catering Corp. He used to poison them."
It’s funnier when your lying in a Double bed and watching 😂

Is there a joke when the man says: nice suit , to basil fawlty.
i was around 10 or 14 years old when i watched monty pythons flying circus,i dont remember this show or was a sketch part from the mpfc show
You're stupid.
It was a different show Mate. Was called Fawlty Towers. John Cleese from Monty Python and his Wife, Connie Booth, co-wrote and starred in it.
The law of England. Right!
Alan looks like Peter Davison
... if Peter Davison was g&y
She’s like princess anne
A double bed
I have a double bed 😂
She didn't pick up her letter.
Perhaps she had other things on her mind 😂
Is it weird that I've always had a thing for prunella scales?
Join the club....
Trevor Adams died 2000 aged 54
Honestly this couple did come off as annoying and entitled
And your point?
I sympathise with Basil here. Anyone who's ever worked in customer service recognises their kind.
@@Kris.G You are correct; and what makes it funny for me is Basil's look and under the breath disdain. He never wins, but he always tries.
No, but to me, they did come off as really awkward.
In what way? All they asked for was a double room. It was Basil being awkward and annoying with his Victorian prudish attitude probably fueled by envy.
