Yes! We have ONE life to live here. Im 42, mixed race, and have had years of downplaying myself to help make others feel comfortable. I no longer do this and have noticed less women want to be around me when I walk in confidence. I can tell you though, it feels really good to be free in this area ✨️

I once went out to dinner with an associate and she said let's dress casual. When I arrived, she was upset I beat my face and curled my hair. She was like, "I thought we said we were going to come casual?" I said, " I'm wearing jeans. This is casual for me!" She was in a stank mood for the rest of the night. That was my last time hanging out with her. 🤣

The opposite happened to me. I’m a beauty queen currently in a pageant. We had a brunch outing with all of the queens. The other lady from my area who won her category is very dark skinned and I’m caramel with curly hair and Native American and white facial features. She told me that the other ladies said that they were not dressing up. When I came to pick her up she had on a satin jumpsuit with heels and jewelry. The other queens had on gowns and I wore a casual jumpsuit because of what she told me. Never again! Regardless… I’m stepping out!

Edited : I grew up in foster care and I remember my last foster mom my telling and TEACHING me that I was very pretty but one day I came out of the bedroom with a paper bag on my head and she asked me what are you doing and I explain to her that if I'm so pretty than why do the girls treat me so mean she took the paper bag off my head and sat down and told me this "you are not only pretty but you have the IT factor " she said every where you go people love you ...and when you leave my family that's now your family , they ask me wheres the pretty girl . There were times where she would beg me to see my worth , even place me in front of a mirror to show me my face . You taking about how uncomfortable that felt. Again still not able to receive it because of all the bullying I had endured from certain family members added the other pretty girls .. that's right ironically enough I got bullied more from girls who I thought were even way prettier than me. Including my great aunt who was twice my age . Any who , the lady who taught me how to embrace my pretty was very kind and always went the extra mile to help me so much so she had connections to the industry and knew a few producers and would go out of her way to set up appointments for me to meet with prodycers so they could hear my voice , as she discoverd I had a voice and wanted to be a singer , however at the time I was too shy and lacked the confidence to "allow " her to help me follow my dreams. Eventually she eased up off what I thought was pressure , but the truth is that woman loved me and would have done anything to see me win! Keep in mind I was her very first foster child as she could not have children of her own , I only wished I had met her sooner . it took me 7 different foster homes before I finally got to her ! She would LITTERLYtell people how long she was in labor with me and my other siblings lol just for smiles 😀.
yes. when I got to her house she's asked if I had more siblings I said yes and she immediately went into doing the process to get my other two younger sisters . As a side note she was absolutely appalled at how the system as a whole worked ! And it made her go even harder for us ! I mean she spoiled the ish out of us !! 😁 Btw all my sister's are Pretty Girls but we struggled deeply to believe that we were loved let alone pretty because of the treatment we endured wayyyy before getting to our last foster mom.
She's now gone . And whenever I feel sad about how( primarily black men) have treated me ..I remember what she told me ." Never let a man devalue you ! He has to earn your attention"!
There were times shed sit with tears in her eyes pleading with me to raise my standards ! 😞
I'm 47 now and lord knows ..if I had only believed what she said . Therefore I would have believed in my own PRETTY GIRL PRIV & POWER . But nope exploitation, fetishized and used even by my own father is why I still struggle. The irony is that while I'm a woman in the industry, sometimes I feel that's the only place where I can practice my pretty priv WITHOUT putting myself in an emotionally and physically unsafe environment with a man. In other words if I want attention from a man all I do now is log into work. lol
***Rip MS Yolande' Elliot you will forever be loved and missed.
Oh! Added Bonus my foster mom was a very pretty woman too and all of her friends from Beverly hills were pretty women all married to doctors, lawyers CEO s so you know her wanting me to raise my standards were high plus she was raised by both parents who were well off too ! So my foster mom didn't get us to have a check she had money ! 😁 js. My foster mom looked Like D.A. FANI 😁 and in her younger years like Laura London minus the dimples. I was blessed to had experience the soft life even considering the cercumstances. Lord knows she tried to make sure we experience all that a pretty girl could , horseback riding , to going to parties with the upcoming child actors at the time in the industry yup ! Major exposure it wasn't an every day occurrence but it was enough to let me see another side of the world and what life could be like for a pretty girl if she would only EMBRACE her own powers !
Even writing this has me in tears .. but it's never too late . Sometimes I just feel like I let her down. 😞 It's bitter sweet really . Any who the best thing I can do is hold her in memory and try my best to honor her by HONORING MYSELF! So tomorrow I'm having lunch in Beverly hills 😁 don't know if Ill fit in but I'll try . That's why I came back to edit. because tomorrow has to be the day I remember her ❤️ .

My mother definitely tried to downplay my beauty by not allowing me to explore fashion, etc when I was younger and make me feel bad when I tried to experiment with what I had. Now I’m 27 and I’m enjoying figuring out what looks best for me. I’ve gotten breast augmentation, I play around with different hair colors and I did grey contacts in the past that got lots of compliments. I love myself in every way I chose to express myself. I’m not stuck up and don’t judge others or talk myself up at all, I don’t ever want to be that chick, but at the same time I take it too far and shouldn’t be literally covering myself up and putting myself down in any way bc of others insecurity . When I started wearing makeup at 16 my mother told me she didn’t like me wearing it so she forbade me. I am now 18 and I noticed that she uses manipulation tactics to make me feel bad about wearing it. She tells me that the only reason I wear makeup is to attract boys. Which is false. She says that me wearing makeup distracts me from school because I am focused on men. Which is also false. She tells me that she is trying to protect me by not allowing me to. I avoid wearing it in front of her because when I do she goes on long rents (which I don’t want to hear). She says stuff like “You think you’re grown, just because you’re 18”. She has been a good mother to me, but when it comes to me looking good and attracting the male gaze as the result she gets very protective. She tries to police my looks and it’s annoying. I have to constantly hide to wear makeup and dress nice since I still live with her. It’s draining.

If you're in college, get a part-time job and get an apartment with 3 other roommates. It can even be a studio apartment. Just utilize bunk-beds for your sleeping arrangements. The only other thing you ladies need is sofa to lounge and a table with chairs to eat. Just do your studying at school or in the library for quietness. You don't NEED to stay at home after 18yrs of age but you also shouldn't be alone. That's why having roommates is ideal for young people. Living away from your mom during these transitional years when you're growing into your full beauty potential can be great for your own personal development. I know you've stated that your mom has been a good mother to you but she appears to be jealous right now. In these type of situations, living apart can actually save the relationship, which I'm assuming you'd like to do. Coming home to policing and degradation every day and hiding who you are literally growing into can cause long-lasting damage to not only you, but to your relationship with your mom as well. Maybe it's time to spread your wings, sweetheart. It's okay to get a place with young ladies of your own age group who are growing through the same phases that you're growing in. You can still love your mom and visit her when you like. I'm not recommending this as a means to be spiteful or vengeful at all. This is just a way to alleviate something that is causing you daily stress while also allowing you to form a close friend group that is in the same age group as you. Remember, ONLY CHOOSE PRETTY GIRLS AS YOUR ROOMMATES. 😄💛😘💛🤩💛

@@BlossomingWoman I really don’t think it’s jealousy. I come from an African background where eating makeup equals seeking attention from men. Many Africans people view it as a bad thing and you wanting to be grown. For instance me and my siblings are naturally pretty and she would complement us on our features. I noticed she says things like (you look better without makeup), which could be a manipulation tactic to make me want to wear less makeup. I know I look better with makeup from my experience and how people treat me. I think she is just obsessed with the idea of natural beauty and she always says stuff like « I never wore makeup when I was young, why are you trying to ». She is trying to live through me which I hate. She wants me to be like her. And to her wearing makeup means that you automatically view yourself as ugly and you have to cover up. She thinks I wear makeup because I’m insecure.

This channel has offered me a great space to just relax and breathe. You have managed to verbalized everything so effortlessly. I live alone in my community and let me tell you, the wives here hate me for wearing shorts and enjoy my beauty. I was told that I am wrong for their husbands being attracted to me. I dnt consider men that are married at all. I dnt date married men, so I wud never look at their husbands but it doesn't matter to the wives. They tried to spread a rumour abt me the other day that i was with one of the wive's husband and I there was an old lady that I talk to who also is single and prefer to be single, defend me and told ppl to leave me alone. These wives tried to destroy my reputation because I choose to be single, and enjoy my body and beautiful features, all because they feel threatened. I honestly think that these women wud love if i was hurt by men, or ridiculed by them. This makes me hate insecure women.

I’ve noticed if I downplay my beauty at all, they come closer and knash their teeth at me, accuse me, and attack my character. I now use the versatility of changing my makeup, hair, nails, jewelry etc. to literally keep them away. They do still make comments, but I make sure they know I don’t do any of it for them, I do it for me.

How do I respond when people say
"You're not that pretty, you're not that light skinned, i've seen pretter [girls], your eyes/hair is fake, you have makeup on", etc all these remarks made to humble us pretty girl exoticals? Can you please make a video on this because im not quick witted to think of comebacks in the moment 🙈

      them: "youre not that pretty"
      me: "and you ARE?!"
them "youre not that light skinned"
me: "and youre not that confident if youre obsessed with MY skin tone."
      them: "ive seen prettier girls"
me: "and i dont give a fuck"
      them:" your hair is fake"
me: "not as fake as your jealous ass personality" 😀
I could go on and on..... 😂

I just recently got blonde hair and I used a green eye filter (that’s me in my pfp) and I’m a brown skinned bw. I’ve been feeling confident and really pretty and I had a UABW harass me recently and tell me I’m “trying to be white” and “hide your dark skin”. Pretty girls can’t just be pretty in peace or explore our beauty without jealous haters having something to say abt it.
Also I was wayyyy darker a few months ago but I’ve been staying out of the sun and I’ve lightened up especially due to the season change

Why can't I just like blonde hair because I like it? I'm still black at the end of the day. Doesn't even matter, now I'm a ginger❤😂

@32:31 I agree with you 100 percent. Whether it is from a positive or negative perspective, you have still achieved your goal because people are still talking about you, they have taken time out of their day to talk about you while you baring even notice their presence. They only talk about you because they notice you, and often, they resent themselves for noticing you, and most of times, you may not even have noticed them because they is nothing special about them, so they try to bring you down by insulting you loudly, just to ensure you hear it.
Imagine being in a grocery store filled with hundreds of people of all ages, including those your age. Then, you overhear someone talking negatively about you but not just under their breath but very loudly. They may think they are bringing you down a notch, but what that actually tells me is that among all these people in the grocery store, you singled me out to insult. If I didn't stand out, you wouldn't have noticed me to insult me; I would have been invisible. No-one insults those they deem not be attractive because they are pretty much invisible.

I love your discussion on taking your beauty / privilege back i came to the same realization a few years ago that a lot of self love especially about your body comes from what you deem attractive and if you embody that yourself and find your own way of doing it so it suits your body/face self love will follow. I also think thats a big problem is understanding how to emulate for you and how your body looks and the structure of your face

I love your voice it is so soothing to me and I 😊Love this video ❤- i also grew up in a strict Christian household where my dress was policed heavily. I also love to be as thin as possible due to my short stature and curvy shape- my ideal size is size 2- I felt most confident than In terms of others opinions, I especially notice this when it comes to my weight- they will keep saying oh your FINE when you gain weight than when it really gets out of control people would tell me- Wait WHAT Happened?! 😂 you know yourself better than anyone else and also you can also say “grow some ovaries” 😂

This is my new favorite video from your channel. I'm so happy to see someone to be thinking like me. I have a mix of 4A 4B and 3c hair it is waist length when straightened. I am curious as to how you might analyze my unambiguous black but cuban family (I know it is not your context but I find many similar pattern) telling me that they do not like my hair when I put it in thick Rihanna like faux locs which made my hair look even more afro like. I apologize if I maybe should not ask but it is interesting. By the way I am the lightest in that side of my cuban family. I for the Cuba context am mulata like you would be and many other in this channel would be and I think I am dark I am caramel colored.

thin privilege to me is an after thought. I really go into a bad vibe zone when I am not my normal weight especially with bloating, it's really difficult to feel good when you're not healthy. I used to run so when I cant run, it makes me sad. But one thing is some people tried to make me insecure about small t- while they tried to be thin themselves, but now that I am away from all these people, I realized how much I like my small t-. It's just me. Btw do you get peels?

WOW….All my life BP esp BW have told me that I look like Aaliyah or Sade. I had one bw as a kid - -7 yrs old stick her finger into my hair at candy store to see if it was real, and back then my hair was in pigtails esp after her baby’s daddy kept asking her my age- was I at least 12? I got so scared I ran out of there and my mom would have my older bro take me to store. I also got the “She looks like my 12th cousin’s aunt’s grandmother’s best friend’s who was mixed daughter!” 🙄

Interesting perspective. I feel like the problem is when we try to police other people. Like you said about body types, thin privilege etc it would be a problem if you were to tear down women who value thickness or a more athletic type. I am human so I catch myself doing it too 😂 but yeah we gotta learn to exist with different beauty ideals/goals
