When my youngest son turned 12 (over 10 years ago) I bought him a Mossberg Silver Reserve 12/20 combo for hunting. He shot his first Pheasant, first duck, and first goose with it. He’s also broke and missed quite a few clay birds. He still has it and still takes it out occasionally for Pheasants, but has since bought himself a Franchi semi auto for waterfowl hunting. All in all, very happy with it.

For those of us who shoot clays once in a while and may or may not hunt a “budget friendly gun” is nice to see. I personally have a Beretta 686 Onyx I bought off an estate for an extremely affordable price but that isn’t an option for most people. Love this review!

Glad to see this review come out. I bought a gold reserve black label a month ago and have generally been happy with it except for the fact that I haven’t seen any other options for chokes on it. Curious if the chokes on the silver reserve and gold reserve are interchangeable.

Great review! Funny thing I noticed is that I could tell right off the bat that this shotgun was made in turkey just watching the intro, they all have that big bold font on the barrel!

I've got the older version of this firearm and it was a very nice gun to shoot. My biggest issue was I did end up snapping a firing pin at about the 12,000 round mark, and trying to get a replacement pin has been an issue. Unfortunately the gun is still sitting on my bench waiting for the new pins, but I am looking forward to getting it up and going again. For the money though, the gun was great and was comfortable to shoot for longer periods including 5-stand and sporting clays competitions. I did install Carlson's choke tubes and I will say for my gun they did help the patterning quite significantly so I agree with you that they are needed on the gun.

I have shot several thousand rounds through the 20ga mossberg silver reserve international (i bought it when i decided to learn Skeet sport shooting) and I've got 2 points to add: 1) very quickly (sub 1000 rnds) i started getting what looked like gas wear on the inside walls of the reciever. I emailed Mossberg and they said it was normal and not under warranty which was surprising. And 2nd, at least for the 20, the hinge *barely* opens enough to slide a round in the bottom chamber, like even w a lot of practice i frequently have to push the gun "more openerer" to load it.
Fwiw i bought a cz drake to keep practicing with and use the little mossberg as a buddy gun when a friend comes with, and they both seem better for it.
Great review, great channel; thanks for your great videos!

Ive got a 12 and 20, had 2 send 12 back twice, once because of broken firing pin, once saftey spring broke, ive put tons of rounds though so no complaints. I enjoy field/short slick stocks way more than trap guns, i have a browning cynergy which i love but i usually always grab mossberg because cynergy is too nice 2 hunt with tbh. Good review, also both mine r the version before this

I've downed more quail with this gun than any of my other shotguns combined. I solo hunt and I'm often forced to take difficult fast-reaction shots from weird angles and this gun is perfect for those fast snap-on-target shots. I have the 12ga and its a lot more agile than the 20ga semi-autos we have. It's nice being able to break the action and carry over the shoulder on the trek back to the truck. I never worry about this gun either because its not a piece of fine art like a lot of other O/Us.
