I just wanted to mention that the mark of the imperial family being ground off done on many surrender rifles as it was thought that it would be a disgrace to the emperor by not grounding the mark off and not because it has a meaning like a nazi swastika. Also I believe you shot a arisaka rifle that was not last ditch but not one of the better early war rifles that were vary good rifles. If you thought the rifle was badly designed this may be because the type 99 arisaka rifles weird sights compared to traditional western sights. These sights were made for a more aggressive and sorter distance engagement rather than to improve the accuracy of the shooter as much as possible.

Recently relocated to South Carolina from Virginia, my new coworkers go hog hunting with nigh vision and a belt fed machine gun. Perfectly legal in the state by the way.
Edit: Just got this video recommended to me again and saw all the replies from a year ago. To answer a few of the comments there is no statute that limits the use of a firearm for hunting in SC other than certain state owned lands, IE no shotguns in this area or typical safety that says you must be X feet off the ground with a rifle (know what is beyond your target). Helibacon is a company in Texas that lets your do exactly what I said but out of a helicopter. See other companies in other states such as Porkchoppersaviation, Sky-Hunter Outfitters.
The states that I found online that allow you to use machine guns are, SC, TX, and OK

The one had a dust cover and the action was almost impossible with it. Removed, it was smooth enough but you wouldn't want to have to do it in a hurry or under pressure. The other was worse. It was later production and it showed everywhere. Then they were smashed to bits in a tornado. Just occurred to me.... their 1st owners came to a bad end, and the 2nd owner's house was leveled. It took a magic touch to get the side plates of the Sparrow Hawk to pop open for me too. LOL. The staff was very generous with their time & also shared the Hemmingway Gun, I have great photos. If your into the shooting sports & find yourself in NY I highly recommend you visit the Gallery.

One quick thing about the arisaka, ive noticed a lot of first time shooters not pushing the bolt all the way closed before rotating the bolt. This is a problem because unlike a more traditional mauser action, the arisaka is a cock on close system, meaning you get resistance before you close the bolt all the way. My experience with arisakas is that if you operate the bolt properly it doesnt feel very clunky and they are actually great rifles

  • @dmytro732

7:41 basically NY, like a few other asinine states, is trying to deem various guns to be "assault weapons" based on arbitrary features that in no way contribute to the weapon's lethality. Collapsible stock for example, it's purely for adjusting stock length for different user fitments (like sliding back a seat in a car for taller passengers) and in no way contributes to the gun being deadlier. It's purely aesthetics that make the weapon more "scary" looking that they want to ban. That actually sums up these gun control initiatives pretty well actually: it's not about pragmatism or effectiveness, it's all about optics and politicians looking like they're actually making real change.

You got to judge that Arisaka on the context that it was built for smaller Japanese men. And late war examples are rough in finish and fit to expedite production to meet the need of the imperial Japanese army. The Germans also made a lot of last ditch weaponry that are rougher than what the Japanese built. Pre-war examples of that rifle are fine and well built.
