Fay, you are a true treasure. My Nanny (grandmom) was of Irish heritage and knew how to feed 7 kids with very little money...and the food was always delicious and satisfying. I love dumplings and have eaten them seven ways to Sunday....and this recipe with go well with my brown stew beef kidneys tonight. Thank you so much! Peace to you and yours.
There are few simple reasons why this can happen 1. the dumplings are too big. Remember, they will get bigger when they cook so don't make them too big. 2. The heat is too high. Medium-High should be fine if you're constantly them. 4. Using an inexpensive pan. Heat will transfer hotter and faster and burn food quickly. 4. Too much water in the dough. If you add extra water it will make it will take longer to cook inside. Hope that helps. Blessings, Fay

To make a good fry dumplin you really do need to use a good/suitable pot. I find a cast iron/dutch oven pot gives the best results. As someone else said it is even better to use a pot with a cover, allowing the dumplins to steam. You'll find that the dumplins cook a bit quicker and they cook right through giving a very soft centre and a nice crisp outside. Don't rush the process the heat shouldn't be high at all.
8 years later and the recipe still the bomb! I added 1/4 cup vital wheat gluten which improve flavor and texture, and 3 teaspoon cornmeal flour and 1 teaspoon sugar. Instead of margarine I used 4 teaspoon coconut oil. Fantastic, soft, fluffy inside. Thanks
I'm not Jamaican but my granddaddy was. Brings me back to my child hood. Great video. When I was younger, after hitting the West Indian Social club and partying and drinking too much wray and nephew. Getting some jerk chicken and fry dumplin was my favorite thing to do.

I made fry dumplings once before, it turned out better then I expected. It was Delicious. I really have to make it again.
I made this a few days ago and my mom was raving about it. I don't cook often-or at all, but my whole family said it was the best dumplin they ever had! They think it was my own recipe but they don't know I have my CZcams-aunty teaching me all the tricks! Lol

Thanks to you I finally know how to make them myself! I saw this video last night and tried it this morning... The whole family ate them up! Next time I might have to double the recipe. .

I just made a brown chicken stew last night, and made Jamaican dumpins'. Oh. I love them! I made 2 batches. One traditionally, and the other I decided to ad some mixed curry spice. Ya...I have to say...I preferred the traditional recipe. LOL!

it was such a great feeling to click and see a seasoned cook. very nice mama great video keep them comming. I love to cook food all types of food. I am american and what ive found is the food is the same people call it different names depending on where your from. idians call it fry bread they flatten it and fry it. Africans call it sweet bread. and Americans call it fried biscuts, and you guys call it dumplings. I love it!

Because my mom is not well, I have taken up all Jamaican cooking duties. Your instructions were di best and simplest to follow.
