    I am 61. And my choice is easy, TurboGrafx 16, PC Engine. Mainly because of my love for shooters. I am an arcade type gamer. Vertical or horizontal, I am there. From day one when I picked the system off the shelf at a Toys-R-Us, no other system stood a chance at taking first place. There have been a few that have tried but failed.

      Also given it’s the most owned game system and by a landslide, but it’s not just because it sold a lot but because it set the standard. It innovated, it excelled, pushed forward what gaming is and should always be.
      Not to mention like you mentioned, the massive game library of two systems..the reasons could go on, ohhhh and also it had a DVD player, and added on to the most ground breaking controller, perfecting it before Xbox did which took them until the next generation to even have a good controller (also I love both Xbox and PlayStation to death)

    • @SoulforReal88
      @SoulforReal88 Před 4 lety +1

      PS1's Game Library is a seperate thing though (and in my very personal opinion, even greater than PS 2's Library), but that's up to everyone's taste and opinion of course

    • @CarmenOfSpades
      @CarmenOfSpades Před 4 lety

      @@SoulforReal88 Sure, I can see that. It's just for me, I didn't get to experience the PS1 in its heyday (N64 kid here) so it wasn't until PS2 that I got to play it. The fact that pretty much everything on PS1 worked on PS2 without any problems/emulation hiccups etc. has always caused me to naturally lump the two consoles together. Even today, I have gone through over six PS2 consoles and have never bought a single PS1, but have always been experiencing fresh and interesting PS1 games ^^ Why just the other night I finally played ユーラシアエクスプレス殺人事件, a murder mystery interactive story in the vein of 街 that really impressed me :D It's amazing that even after all these years the system's library has so many surprises in store!

      Amazing choice, Johnny. To be honest most people would of chose the ps2 over the ps1 that it can play ps1 games. (of course among many other reasons! I love the ps2!) But to be honest your choice was wise man. I don't know if my reason makes any sense lol. But yeah most have to agree with me that in 1998, that had to of been one of the best years of gaming. If you look back most of the best games came out that year, truly amazing. Great video you guys! (:

    Fave console is the Genesis. Hands down.
    But the funny thing is : I only got a Genesis recently. I grew up a Nintendo kid! Love my memories of playing the NES and the SNES (especially the Square RPGs on the latter one).
    But despite all that, the Genesis has won me over. It might be because it's game library is more varied, I feel, than that of the SNES. And nowadays I've moved away from RPGs and prefer to play sideview action platformers more. Soundwise, FM synth-based music resonates more with me as well.
    Gotta say though : the PS1 is a damn fine pick and I considered it as well. I had one as ateen and loved playing Resident Evil 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3... it just has so. damn. many. great. games... the list goes on and on and on

    I sold my entire gamecube collection in 2007 in exchange for a lot of new Xbox360 games. The NES was my first console. I saw Atari 2600 after. I remember the day my dad brought the NES home and set it up. Came with 2 games, w controllers and a gun for Duck hunt. I remember sitting in school dying to get home because I knew we were driving to get Zelda. I watched the cartoon and that sword was awesome! I would save up money for chores. My cousin had all the games and when I first saw Mario 3 at his house I couldn't think of anything else. I didn't see the game in the Wizard but it blew me away. Systems and games don't make me feel that way anymore. Great times.

      I have really strange, fond memories of the Saturn because I only ever rented it from Blockbuster. We had parties were my brother and a few friends and I played through Cyber Speedway, Virtua Fighter, and Resident Evil together. Based just off that ridiculous selection of games, I recall being really in love with it. If I had bought it I would probably feel differently...

      I still remember the surprise lauch. I walked into my local games store and saw a video screen running saturn video. "huh, that's cool, I'm going to watch this for a while", I thought. There was no internet back then so watching video was a rare treat. Then I realized it was a looking attract screen for Panzer Dragoon. "what a weird video", I thought. Then I looked over and saw that it was being piped from the console that was just sitting there waiting to be played. Then I saw a bunch of boxes behind the counter. "Is that... for sale?", I asked. The guy behind the counter just casually said "yeah.".
      It's almost impossible to explain how bizarre this was to a modern gamer who wasn't there for it.

    born in 87. I was a little too young to really play any NES or SNES games on my own; I mostly watched my brother play. But when the N64 came out, I felt like it was truly my console and I was at a great age to play it. The hours spent with family and friends playing Goldeneye, Mario Kart 64, WCW/NWO world tour, Killer Instinct Gold. The hours adventuring on my own in OoT, Majoras Mask, Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, Donkey Kong 64… yeah wow what a library of games. They were perfect for me at my age.

  • @AntonioCunningham
    @AntonioCunningham Před 9 lety +4

    My choice would be the 60gb PS3. (Not the ones striped of Backwars Compatibility) Not only could it play my entire sony collection, but as a person who's addicted to having multiple saves for games, this console was a godsend! It also was a multimedia device so if I wanted to do other things than play a game, the console was still valable. (I've *never* been fond of a console that can only do gaming) It still used the controller I'm more efficient with, and it had the the ability to install Linux...! until sony too that away:-(
    If I can't separate the Good PS3 from the gimped ones, then I'll vote for the PS2 (The fat ones, not the slim ones. They couldn't read official Sony PS one memory cards.) It is the console I've played the most. It also what the first console I bought. (Every PS one I had were built from broken PS ones that were threw away. Good thing I didn't care if people were making fun of me dumpster diving)

      @pite9 Před 7 lety

      Barry wallace no way. PS2 is untouchable in terms of depth. PS1 rpgs were carried by Square, whereas the PS2 had multiple top tier developers and series. SMT, Tales, .hack, Shadow Hearts, the LV5 games. Xenosaga. The Suikoden games, although not adding much new, generelly improved. Then you saw interesting new concepts in games like Metal Saga, Steambot Chronicles and Graffiti Kingdom.
      Square had some great games too, although they were surely disappointing compared to their PS1 output. You could argue that PS1 was more revolutionary. In terms of top end I agree, but I think that kind of comparison is very arbitrary and frankly useless since we live in the now. Although the ps3 gen have superior technology, I still think the ps2 have better games, because the writing, design and gameplay make up for the lacking graphics. When comparing ps1 and ps2 I think the games are generally better on ps2 in all categories, not just graphics. And the sheer amount of great rpgs is on a whole other level.

      Goldeneye is one of the most important games in the history of the FPS genre. Super Smash, Mariokart, Mario Party, Diddy Kong racing, Gauntlet Legends and many other games revolutionized same room group gaming. 3D world interaction in games such as Zelda, Donkey Kong 64, Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, and many others just blew our minds when they came out.
      So many huge leaps in gaming on one platform. I could go on and on about how awesome and innovative the N64 was and still is.

      Some PS1 games dont play well on the PSP, but I still love the hell out of it. Best way other than the PS1 to play those games. The shooters fighters and RPGs all play great on it. wish it had the L2 and R2 buttons and some analog sticks but 95 percent of the time you can find a way to make the ps1 games work near perfectly on the PSP. I see people playing with their phones and touch screens and it just makes me cringe. You can get a PSP for so cheap nowadays and they are so easy to mod its not even funny. Then all you need is a couple of micro SD cards and a 2 in 1 adapter to Memory Stick Duo and you are set. Even thou I download all my PSP games in ISO format, I still buy and collect PSP games. With them on the mem stick, they load faster and the batteries go a lot longer, and you are still using native hardware with the games, so theres no emulation issues cuz you're not emulating them. I love the PSP, and I feel people are missing out on it to this day. I have a lil trouble with a few EBOOT PS1 to PSP files but not many. and the ones that I do, I just play them on my PS1/2/3 . Some Ive had problems with off the top of my head are Skull Monkeys, Dragon Warrior 7 (loads but screen is just blank, can hear sound), MK Trilogy (loads but locks up quickly), Viewpoint, Doom, Kartia (loads but glitches out a lot). But besides those Ive had little problems with the PS1 to PSP. Check out emuParadise for the eboot files. Sorry for rattling on, but I do love me some PS1/PSP. anyone who is doubting the PSPs awesome-ness give it another try. Even if you dont like any PSP games you still have most of the PS1 library , not to mention all the emus you can find for it (the SNES ones never work well for me) and its a much cheaper alternative to Iphones and Android devices

    37 years old and I've been a lifelong gamer since the Atari 5200 at the age of 4. I had to think REALLY hard about this one because I was an original elementary school Nintendo brat and LOVED my Sega Genesis. I loved the deeper, adventurous games from NES like Milon's Secret Castle, Ninja Gaiden and Mega Man, but I was also an arcade freak and Street Fighter 2 and Neo Geo cabs took large portions of my allowance at the mall. SO, after all that pompous wordiness, my favorite console of all time is the short lived Sega Dreamcast. I got it on 9/9/99 at the age of 21 and it did everything I always wanted in a console. It had deep adventure games AND perfect ports (in Soul Calibur's case, a better port) of arcade games. It was my dream console in my face! Me and my friends didn't emerge from my house for almost two days because of 2 player House of the Dead with light guns, Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxy and Power Stone. It was like living in an arcade. Also, the BEST version of Resident Evil 2. Every console has been doing this since the days of xbox and PS2 but this was the FIRST to get it right. Sega Dreamcast.... My favorite console of all time.

    I'm 28 and started with the Atari 2600 and NES as a kid.
    My Top 5:
    1. Gamecube Best 3D Nintendo game library hands down.
    2. PS2: A quality game library so big, and so many good platformer franchises got their start here: Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank. Plenty of decent co-op and multiplayer games, 3D GTA,
    great for games requiring peripherals (rock band, guitar hero, DDR). It may be a somewhat old system, but I still play it today.
    3. Xbox360 So many great games, Halo games, Bioware games, I'm still finding good titles for it and the graphics were amazing for its time and still don't look half bad
    4. N64: While not the best looking console in the world, here is Nintendo's transition to 3D that worked out fantastically.
    Even though the system only had about 300 North American games, so many of them were unique experiences unlike the plethora of copy-paste games we see in modern consoles.
    Also, the 4 player multiplayer support made it so much fun to game with friends and family.
    5. NES: While it does not have as many games that I fondly remember as some of the above consoles, the heavy hitters it had are still loved and played today.
    The original Legend of Zelda, all the Mario Bros. games (including my all time favorite game Mario Bros. 3), Kirby's Adventure, you can find some real quality here.

      Russell LeBlanc I think he means God of War. That game was an absolute beast on that system.

      lol I was kind of thrown off for a second. Either he was being sarcastic or I'm mistaken. Yep, God of War certainly was a great game. Playstation 2 was such a great console, I'm sure if you dig around the house you'll find 2 in the closet and one under the bed somewhere.

    I'll be 35 this year, and it's really tough to pick one, as I was 6 when the NES came out, and it was what got me into gaming, and I grew up with gaming. NES in early childhood, SNES/Genesis in my middle childhood, and PS1/N64 in my teens. But if I really had to pick one, I think I would have to go with the PS1. It was the first system I got when it was still fairly new. All of the other ones I didn't till after it had been out for years. So when I got it for Christmas, I was so thrilled, not to mention the step up into 3D graphics were exciting times (even though they look like junk today). The two truly mind blowing games I remember for that system were FFVII and Metal Gear Solid. They really showed how you could put emotion and a great storyline into a game (although FFVI still had the better story, IMO). Lots and lots of great memories.

    I received the NES for my 11th birthday in 1988. It was completely unexpected, and I absolutely loved that system. Trading games with my friends, and marathon sessions of Simon's Quest and Zelda are some of my favorite memories of that system. I bought a Genesis a few years later, and that would bet second choice.

    The console that gives me the warm fuzzy feeling inside is the PS2 because of the extensive library and it contains my favorite fighting game, beat 'em up, and racing game (Def Jam FFNY, The Warriors, NFS Most Wanted) so many great memories and plus it is the only console to not give me any annoying system problems besides freezing every once in awhile, then I'd say the Super nintendo because that was the first console i played on.

    I'm 31, and my favorite video game system is the PSX (PS1). It's the first system that genuinely made me enjoy gaming on home consoles, as I was big on fighting games before I had my time with it -- and the best version of the fighting games I liked were in the arcades. It's also the console that made me like other genres besides fighting games.

    18, The Super Nintendo and the Gamecube without question. There are so much memories I have had with these two but also for the amazing library each has. The SNES alone was responsible for my obsessive interest in the retro scene for the past few years learning of all these consoles and games that I would've shared the same memories with if I had them. The GBA my favorite handheld could be played on the Gamecube and the console had so many collections from previous gens like Zelda collectors edition introducing me to OoT my favorite game ever.

    I'm almost 23 and it has to be PS2, I've played a ton of games on SNES and Pegasus, but the most entertaining games were on PS2. Can't imagine my life as a gamer without the ps2 memories :)

    im 30 and my favorite console is the NES and SMS, perhaps because they where the first i played, but they where just awesome, i still got them both, and they still work.
    a very big seller on these is the fact that the games and console had to work and be finished when shipped, there was no way of updating it later on... i really miss those days.

    I'm 29, my first console was a Master System and I've got almost all of the major consoles (portables included) released since then, that said, my favorite of all time is the PS3. It's the one I have the fondest memories, the best games IMO and it was in a great time in my life in general. It already makes nostalgic to think about it :')
