    I love the CB250RS, have never ridden one, but wish I had bought one in the early 1980’s

    I had one of these in the late 1980s. I bought it then for £250 with about 14000 miles on it. I took my ten year old son (now 43!) from Newcastle upon Tyne to Italy on it with all our camping gear. We had a great time and he still talks about the experience. I took loads of tools with me and we serviced the chain every day, changed the oil at the thousand mile mark, and there was nothing else I needed to do on the nearly three thousand mile trip (2795). The main thing about these bikes is that you MUST MUST MUST change the oil every thousand miles. Loads of them went to the bike grave yard because their cam shaft wore into the head from bad oil. There were no bearings, just the camshaft running in the aluminium head.... Bad bad bad practice. I really wish I had kept mine in the garage and could ride it now, but I sold it. On our big trip, we rode from Paris to Newcastle through the afternoon and night, in one go. What an epic ride that was - 545 miles! I can still remember the roar of the exhaust in the dark on near empty motorways, and constantly tapping my son's leg to make sure he was awake. We had an agreement - I tapped his leg and right away, he tapped the middle of my back. These days a father like me would be banned from seeing his kids..... The boy doesn't think that way though.

    Loved this sweetie - single cylinder overs-quare. Never went too fast. But plenty enough torque. The rack is CLEARLY not a Rickman rack. Because those rack rusted inside 6 months.

    Great to see the RS out and about, it seems to have the same starting characteristics to mine. I just love them.😊

      no one likes a sticky throttle

    Due to the large floatbowl size you need to fill the carb beforehand. Oh and if you think i dont know what i'm talking about I've owned my rsd since nov 82 ,and yes I've still go it .

    Great video mate, sometimes it’s a great breath of fresh air to see a classic bike that’s just had work done to pass an MOT and then used.
    I’ve done this a few times, hardly any of my 35 or bikes owned since 1994 have ever been mint but perfectly useable.
    I used to own a CB250rs, mine was a W reg 1980 example, quite tidy but not a minter, it was a Kick start only model, the very early ones only had kickstart, yours must a slightly later one if it’s meant have an “Electric Boot”.
    I kept mine for two years and eventually sold it on, it was a great little bike, pretty smooth for a single cylinder and quite nippy as well.
    All the best with yours mate.😎👍

    What a very fun bike. We did not get all the fun small displacement bikes. I would love to find one of these and Import to the U.S.

      I think America did get quite a few but people wanted bigger and better so they never sold well

    New throttle cables would be a good investment for peace of mind! Seems an ideal bike for the job.

      i have found the problem and fixed it. the problem was the return cable the clutch cable is far from perfect though and i will probiley end up swapping it out soon

    Good bikes, keep an eye on the oil level, I used to change the oil quite frequently, have fun on it.

    • @BigPezza
      @BigPezza  Před rokem

      yeah some one told me he ran out the engine sized so he put some more oil in and left it for 5 mins and it was fine

    • @NotNowCato1254
      @NotNowCato1254 Před rokem

      Second that. These older air-cooled Hondas like decent oil and the filtration is a bit crap so the oil gets dirtier quicker. Believe no more than 1500 miles between changes is recommended for a long and happy engine life 👍

    I really need to work out how the points work and add mine, joined the TRF to access the map and done 3 lanes now.
    Went to Ryka’s years ago to a classic Ford meet drove down from Leicester in a stripped out mk1 Fiesta ears ringing for days 😂

    maybe a PZ30b pumper carb with a throttle kit...or a slightly more expensive nibbi PE28 smooth bore carb for 'more performance'... though I understand the keeping it honda appeal and it kinda works good enough ...

    • @BigPezza
      @BigPezza  Před rokem

      maybe later on, i dont want to put a carb and throttle kit on a bike that only cost £400 to start with 😅

  • @christianweller4288
    @christianweller4288 Před rokem

    I had one…. 26 BHP.
    Great little bike let down by a lack of oil filter and the RSA model had a cam issue (poor hardening). Apart from that 15k mikes of glorious single cylinder mayhem.

    • @BigPezza
      @BigPezza  Před rokem

      they have a oil screen inside the engine same as honda cubs so as long as you clean it out once in a while it should be fine, i belive the first 2 years they had 25bhp then the later models like mine are ment to have around 33bhp or thats what it says on the spec sheets

    • @christianweller4288
      @christianweller4288 Před rokem +1

      Also the top gear gearing is 1000rpm to10mph, sprockets and tyres permitting.

    • @christianweller4288
      @christianweller4288 Před rokem +1

      @@BigPezza The later DOHC engined ones might have had a bit more power but the SOHC definitely topped out at 26. The screen was not that effective, I changed the oil every 2000 miles just to be safe.

    • @BigPezza
      @BigPezza  Před rokem +3

      @@christianweller4288 I think it says on the manual every 1000 miles oil change

    • @TheDigger06
      @TheDigger06 Před rokem

      Nothing to do with poor hardening,its down to sitting directly in the head , poor oil changes/level, lack of cleaning the oil screen

    Is that a twin cylinder all the speck says they’re a single cylinder it just I see the two pipes coming out of the head
