  • How do you install a washer box?
    In this video, Plumber-Tom demonstrates how to install a washer box, starting with the rough in piping in the wall, and ending with the trim on the finished wall.
    What is a washer box?
    This is a kit which provides a recessed wall access to connect washer drain and waterlines behind the appliance. Sioux Chief is one brand that makes excellent washer box kits. The box can glue directly onto ABS or PVC drainage piping. A variety of water connection types are available for PEX, copper or galvanized installation.

    Hi. In our box, there is water leaking from a hole in the upper box into the drain pipe. Is that normal? We just noticed today. I'm wondering if that's is why our laundry room smells like mildew . Thanks

      Sounds like a problem. You should not be seeing water in the box.

    Why would you glue a pea trap on? I like to be able to unscrew mine and clean it out

      Good question. P-Traps that are hidden in walls, floors or ceilings should be glue traps because they are not accessible. Slip Joint P-Traps should only be used in places where they can be accessed. The P-Trap for a washer box is inside the wall so it should be glued.

    quick question: in my appartment the washer box has the drainage pipe coming through the box and is above the bottom of the box by 3-4 inches. also the drain pipe has no sealant around it as it is coming through the hole, so we had a mishap that a washer gasket was faulty and water leaked in the washer box and into the space between the drain pipe and and hole around it. Is this type of installation normal?

      hello. Yes, that is not unusual. For many years before washer boxes were invented, plumbers used to just stub pipes in the wall. The key on any washer drain connection is to make sure that the washer drain hose goes all the way down into the drain pipe and is secured so that it cannot come out when the washer is draining. If the drain pipe in the wall is too short, sometimes water can over flow out when the washer is pumping. Or the same thing can happen if the drain pipe in the wall gets clogged with lint or other debris.

    @plumber-tom9470 no cleanout needed? I thought it was required. Would it go above or below the sanitee?

    Is the washerbox at the height just for looks or could u have it 5ft higher if you wanted?

    • @plumber-tom9470
      @plumber-tom9470  Před 9 měsíci

      Plumbers often set the height so that it is just above the back of the washer. That way the valves are accessible but it is not as visible. 5 foot would be okay as long as the standpipe from the trap is not more than 42”.

      @@plumber-tom9470 Thanks, and the trap needs to be a certain distance from the ground correct?

    Why dont clothing washers dry your clothes in NA? The majority of the world uses a single unit to wash and dry their clothes... how dumb is our market? Are we going to be buying 2 dishwashers soon?

      I imagine it is about sales. Why sell one appliance if you can sell two? I like your thinking.

      They do sell combination washer/dryer units in the US but they are less efficient at doing both functions. The greenies will never allow in US market.
