I had the Scorpion Rally STR of my R1200GS for a trip to baja, and the sand was deep where we followed a piece of the rsce course going up to the Sky Rancho. The front tire was weak, as in the video, but the bar tread in back produced a lot of drive in the loose stuff and got me out some nasty bunkers. The front is just lovely on the street and on fire roads. In back, the sharp break from the center blocks to the side blocks, which is only slightly staggered on alternate rows, makes for a slippery spot on cold wet roads.

Been running these Scorpion STR front and rear on my 1200GS. Best 50/50 tyre so far. Very quiet on tar and stable even at 200km/h. Better than Mitas e07 plus on tar, similar off-road. Great grip and drive off road. I push hard and will get only 4500km out of the rear. Same as TKC70, E-07+ i ran before but better all round grip. Motoz Tractionaters was too noisy and limited on road. Will try the Tractionater GPS next.

Not sure if you will see this comment due to age of video but here goes. I live in rural Michigan where most secondary roads eventually change from ashphalt to gravel. I ride a 2021 Ninja 400 and on stock tires gravel is like riding on marbles. I am thinking about fitting the STR tires so I don’t have to turn around when faced with gravel as I like to explore in big loops and not hit the same road twice. It seems that given the performance on the Africa Twin on and off road they should do well on my light little bike. Basically it’s the cheap alternative as I continue to save up for my dual sport bike. Thanks for the feed back!

Thank you for a nice review. A few questions if you please: 1. Do you think Rally STR is 100% similar to Scorpion MT90 (which I have now)? Or do you think STR is more off-road? 2. This video shows sunny and dry weather conditions. How do STRs behave on wet paved (asphalt) roads (and in cold temperatures)? 3. This video shows dry sandy/rocky types of terrains. How do STRs behave in puddles of thick wet mud? Will they be completely useless like some kind of purely road tyres in the mud? 4. Did you ever try Metzeler Enduro 3 Sahara? If so, how do those compare with STRs?

I like the way they handle both on and off road. they make a nasty humming noise between 75-85 mph. They are not tough on rocky terrain. The first time a flatted I thought I was being too aggressive. The second time I was not going very hard on the rocky terrain and they flatted anyway. Was running 37 rear, 32 front. I now hate these tires after stranding me twice. When they fail, they are not repairable so you are screwed! Don't do it....don't buy them for your big GSA!

Chaparral Motorsports hi, great vids. I’m with pavo, need new rubber on my first gs1200 and have decided between Karoo street and Pirelli STR. If you had to decide purely on best feedback and grip on road, not concerned about longevity, which would you plump for?? Thank you and keep up the good vids

@@andrewhorton5666 hi mate I decided to go for karoo street and made about 1k miles so far... quite impressed about handling on tarmack in pretty much any conditions like wet dry and so on haven't done any off-road yet and comparing to the previous road orientated ones they're pretty loud...can hear them from 30 mph till 60 mph, after that is just wind noise...wonder how long they last for but probably i will stay with them

Hello, it's not really comparing apples to apples as the Pirelli STR is advertised as an 80/20 street/dirt whereas the Trailmax Mission is advertised as a 50/50 street/dirt tire. But to answer your question we preferred the Trailmax Mission.

We would love to make some mud videos.... only problem is that we live in So Cal with Baja type terrain. More sand and rock than actual dirt... and no rain to make mud. I would like to make a year round mud pit that we can use for testing. We did for the ATV Tire test... and took me WEEKS to make this pit and it dried up immediately. At 0:54 you can see me digging.... and watering to make the mud run : czcams.com/video/HfL3XJLbjRM/video.html

In our 80/20 ADV tire shootout these tires took third place overall, and we thought they performed fairly well in the dirt for the 80/20 tire category.

There's no mold release anymore, but the tire doesn't grip well on hard surfaces until it achieves the ripply "crepe" finish of a broken-in tire, and until the tread blocks wear to their working shape.
