    One other thing about this remake is the music selection. You can choose the default music, the Japanese music, Zelda 1 music (only in some places), or IsabelleChiming music (my favorite) which includes different dungeon remixes for each dungeon.

    This remaster/remix/remake/whatever the fuck it is is so god damn good. I legit got addicted to finishing the game for a whole week after starting. And I've never played Zelda 2 or have been interested in it.

    • @ThaThree
      @ThaThree Před 4 měsíci +2

      Damn, is there any game you'd compare it to? I've never been interested in zelda 1 or 2. But 2 looks enticing in this version. I have played Souls and metroidvanias, it seems like I have the right experience to give it a good go

    • @NINgameTENmasterDO
      @NINgameTENmasterDO Před 3 měsíci +3

      @@ThaThree I don't play a lot of 2D games, so it's hard to compare it. The dungeons are like metroidvanias due to the need to explore everything to clear the dungeon. The game becomes very vertical during dungeon crawls, but normal gameplay is rather horizontal. The combat is unlike anything I've played. I haven't played Dark Souls, so I can't compare that either, but it's very timing-based, with an emphasis on jumping to maneuver around enemy shields. Very engaging combat.

    I'd fight the first Bubble (flying skull guy) until I had all but 6 of the heart, magic, and sword upgrades, that being because you get one free upgrade for finishing each of the dungeons. I'd concentrate on the sword upgrades first. A level 5 sword kills them in 28 hits. But I was doing this on an emulator where I could be on my PC and watching a show on TV at the same time. They are so easy you don't have to look at the screen to kill them, you just have to have patience. Doing it like that turns it into a game where the difficulty is slowly increased over time instead of one where there are points like Death Mountain where it gets a lot harder out of nowhere.

    I like how this game recieved somewhat of an AM2R type of upgrade/update. The extended gameplay and second quest (extended ending) as well as the Quality of Life improvements, and added mild graphical improvements (animations and transparencies). It's amazing that an NES game can be converted using ASM into GameMaker, retaining the original physics and adding things that would most likely not work or not fit onto the original console game.

    • @Scott93312
      @Scott93312 Před 4 měsíci +1

      I'm still early into the 2nd quest, when you say "Extended ending", do you mean there's more to the game after the final palace? Does it have anything to do with the area south of the lava area? Because it bothered me that I couldn't do anything there in my first playthrough.

  • @Scott93312

    I've played through this game all the way through... once... I'm currently on the 2nd quest (Yes, there is a second quest) which is largely the same as the first but with some minor changes (that I've observed thus far). And I do have to say... that aside from an issue with the elevators in Death Mountain, and a few select areas that require precision 'down-thrust' platforming, the game is absolutely amazing, and I simply cannot imagine ever playing the original game ever again!

      Omg it is. Get it. I'm so serious. I was blown away by this version.
      I was a huge fan of Z2 since it came out waaaay back in the 80's (I was like 4-5 when i first played it). This game has no business being this phenomenal. It is EXACTLY what I would always have wanted to improve the original. There is sooo much cool extra shit, side quests and more than double the items, all of which slide seamlessly into the original gameplay (like you can find a better shield, sword, and a ring/tunic upgrade; there's a fairy you rescue that permanently makes it so you don't die when you fall in a pit). There is also a 2nd quest that you can play right after the first one that adds a whole massive NEW area with a new final boss.

    Get it. Everyone who sees this who is even slightly curious, GET THIS GAME. It was phenomenal. It is one of the few times I've seen a reboot/remaster that, as this channel stated, expands and improves EVERYTHING from the original while still honoring the aesthetic/feel. Cuz it isn't just a remaster, it's like a Director's Cut or Extended Version of a movie. Everything is still there, but now there's so much more. I was engrossed the entire time I played it, especially when I realized just how much cool stuff was added for me to explore. It felt like playing a new Zelda where I suddenly don't know everything going in, so things can surprise or delight you cuz you find them on your own. Ahhh! I'm gushing way too hard here, but I can't help it. This had to have been done by someone who really truly loved the original and just wanted to make it better in every dimension.

    we were not ready neither for zelda 2 nor castlevania 2 back then as we were missing context, this is, the legacy of sidescroller rpgs from japan from the pc88 and pc98 era. only now in retrospective after watching too many videos on even older games than the NES masterpieces is that everything makes more sense.
    also, how can I get my hands on this masterpiece?
