  • Now, I know Paddington loves his marmalade sandwiches. But how about you make some English-style scones to serve with the marmalade instead?

So, as a Brit, and more specifically one from the south of England, I can say that clotted cream is also an acceptable part of the scone experience, replacing the butter. I will, however, note that the classic cream tea typically involves a berry jam, rather than a marmalade.
There is also a certain amount of what some would call controversy surrounding the question of whether to apply cream first or jam. I'm not going to stick my oar into it right now, because I don't think it would further the discussion surrounding the video.

I mostly agree with that, but I'm also very glad that Babish has started to share more and more personality with us, because there's nothing wrong with getting a little chuckle with my information.
Also just wanna say how fucking grateful I am for the 20 second still at the end of the video that prevents CZcams from immediately throwing me into the next video against my will. Babish, you're a saint.

Marmalade is usually used at breakfast on toast, an English muffin or a tea cake at a push but scones are never eaten for breakfast, they are generally eaten for afternoon tea...sometimes elevensies. So they should not be put together. Scones are either buttered or have clotted cream and jam on them...unless they are cheese scones of course. I hope that has made everything a little clearer.

If anyone decides to use navel oranges, I actually recommend using a normal lemon (eureka lemon) instead of a meyer lemon. Navel oranges are a lot sweeter than servile oranges and the sour from the eureka is better for balancing out the sweetness. I squeeze 1 1/2 lemons for every two oranges into my navel orange marmalade, which is also made using cane syrup or sorghum syrup instead of granulated sugar. What comes out is a sweet and tangy but darker marmalade. It also has a slight syrup flavor to it. Sometimes I like to lightly overcook it because it gives the marmalade a butterscotch-like aftertaste that goes perfectly on a pancake, vanilla ice cream or biscuit.

Pro tip from Mary Berry, the queen of cakes: don’t twist the cutter when making scones. They don’t rise quite as well because the dough has twisted. Go straight down into the dough, jiggle if necessary and then come straight back up. The result is even fluffier scone.

did anyone else notice that at aprox 4:05 he put in yeast however doesn’t even say how much he put it let alone the actual fact that all he had mentions was the Flour, Honey, and lastly the Water. however he did at approximately 4:17 where he says and i quote “... an additional half teaspoon of instant yeast...” basically saying, explaining, and lastly saving himself unintentionally saving himself by implying that, that was exactly what he had added the first time at 4:05 along with the same exact amount as before when he states that he is not “…adding a half teaspoon…” but rather he is “…adding AN ADDITIONAL half teaspoon…” but other than that this was and is still the first and only mistake that was in the video or well at least the first and only mistake that was in the video that i had caught as well as i had checked the comments to see if anyone else had recognized it or maybe some people did notice and just didn’t saying anything, however either way i did not catch anyone else bringing this very very very small and slight mistake to light (even thought i, however, did not spend an hour or more physically going through and reading every single comment word for word especially since there is a total of 6.8k comments all together and that will include this one right now as well as there is 359 commented responses on just one comment alone from The Cooking God Himself “Babish”
now besides the fact that this comment was a little lengthy if you have read this far, i am in fact, very appreciative and let’s get this comment liked all the way so as i stated before The Cooking God Himself “Babish” can see this and know that there are many people out there who appreciate his work very very very much to the point where “we” take very close attention especially when making this as i am right now and i will say it was absolutely positively unequivocally 1000000% deliciousioso and now i rest my case.
