Just want to say, if anyone has the bcdboot issue still after using diskpart. Make sure you are using the right slash in c:\windows because my win10 cd defaulted as a UK keyboard and my \ key wasn't working properly on my US keyboard .. c:/windows will error every time! So select the correct keyboard layout, or copy and paste a \ from somewhere on the screen. :)

Oh my god the relief. I've been trying to fix my computer for two stressful weeks. I was looking at losing programs that are irreplacable. Followed the information here and I'm back in business. Thanks a bunch I accidentally accepted a Windows 11 upgrade and it caused my computer to enter an automatic repair boot loop, after this video I was able to figure out that previously my windows was installed on my 256gb nvme but after the upgrade it installed it on my 1TB nvme instead. So I just had to go into the BIOS/UEFI and adjust the boot order of my drives and I booted into Windows 11 with no issues

I just recently cloned my boot drive to another one to upgrade size. I started getting blue screen of death though, and when trying other videos suggestions to rebuild the mbr and boot files, none worked, except this video. Holy cow, I thought I was a goner, thank you.

I can't copy boot file because my main partition is recognised as RAW and not NTFS , is there any way to fix , I can't afford to format , I have important files.
Hey! Today my PC with Win11 started to update and Windows doesn't run after reboot. It is trying automatic recover, but no result. Safe mode doesn't work also. I'm trying your method, for me it looks like bcdboot F:\Windows /s H: /f All, and it started to move but after "Creating Resume object" I have 2 errors: bfsvc error: failed to get element device type status c0000225 bfsvc error: failed to populate bcd store status c0000225 What am I doing wrong? P.S. I also have 2 hidden NTFS volumes besides 1 FAT32 volume which I chose for recovering, one of them has label "recove.." don't know what s this.
Thanks for this video. It worked. Had to change my drive directory to C: and follow your instructions. This video solved my greatest challenges. If you are using bitlocker, please keep your recovery code handy because without it you'll not be able to copy files in the CMD. I just subscribed! ❤️

Thank you! I had windows startup errors after SSD clone. Bcdboot command worked on me. Tried it before with C:\windows, but it didn't work, then found out windows can be on another volume, followed your steps to find right volume where windows is and then found out that it is on D: for some reason. Then I just ran bcdboot command with right paths and now I'm typing this from working windows.
Next to my Volume 0 and Volume 1 where Windows should be under Ltr column there is no any letter (C, D...) so I don't know how to select it and execute these commands. Any help there?
Hope you are checking using list volume? if yes are you getting other details like fs(file system), type, size, status, info? If yes, please try to assign drive letter manually assign letter=x (where x is the drive letter), i have told in the below videos. This did not work for me as I still can not launch windows 10. However, in your command for the GPT structure bcdboot C:|Windows /l en-us /s Z: /f UEFI /v, I get an extra message at the end where you didn't. The extra message is BFSVC: Setting {default} to {db198ff3-cedb-11ea-a807-f48964c423e3}. Prior to this message, 5 messages up it set default to ..Setting {default} to {f968be43-5cf8-11ef-b898-86368f00e120}. So, in my case it's setting/changing the {default} value twice, whereas for you, it only set {default} value once. Please advise. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. I'm not getting a boot error but I am getting a PXE61 media test failure. SSD was a working drive until I had someone load a software package onto it. I have confirmed the drive is now GPT and I need MBR. I used disk genius to successfully change it to MBR. I still get the PXE61 error. I don't get the BCDBOOT error. I was thinking this might be the cause but now thinking something else may be my problem. I still learned a lot from your videos, Thanks!

superb job, learning curve was excellent, and scripting the commands on the side the best i've seen and really appreciated - i did watch all 3 videos. OK, now for my challenge that still remains: my win10 is legacy bios-64bit, S: is the system reserved @100mb, and C: is windows @110gb. i executed [ bcdboot C:\Windows /l en-US /s S: /f bios ] and the response was [ boot files successfully created ]. from dir S:\ i find EFI [not sure why the EFI is there?] 0 files 0 bytes 1 dir 40,701,952 bytes free i execute successfully [ bootrec /fixmbr ] but both [ bootrec /fixboot and /rebuildbcd ] fail with [ element not found ] now, in building a WinPE usb, when i got to begin executing bootrec, i did NOT have a bootrec command. With another excellent video showing how to add the bootrec command, the WinPE usb was rebuilt by capturing a full boot.wim from the win10 ISO file and re-running the WinPE usb creation using the full boot.wim file. now i am lost. i did notice that 1 tutorial took a step to format what would be my S:, and then somehow it got rebuilt, but i am not sure what that achieves or how to recover if i screw that up? is this situation 'unique'? or is there yet possibly a 4th video on this challenge? in any event, i learned a lot and thanks for your work
Friend - Looks like you have followed many steps from internet, mix of solutions relevant to bios and efi. What I suggest is take some time and view these videos. Based on having * nor not having * in diskpart, first decide disk type of the disk where your OS drive is there (OS drive is mostly c:). Then follow the steps relevant to that, I have mostly shown steps for both in all my videos. As long as you have not formatted OS drive, you can get your system back for 100%, even though you have formatted/corrupted any other drives/partitions. Now i can't enable secure boot if enable i can't boot to window and the old broken boot manager is still there although i deleted through bios maybe i missed some step but it's okay i will search how to fix it later not big problem i can wait.

Hi, fascinating that this all works normally... However, for me running bcdboot command like this on gpt exits with the error code: BFSVC Error: Could not open the BCD template store. Status = [c000000f] My win11 surface pro doesnt boot up at all, can just execute commands and automatic repair definitely is not a working option. Trying around - any suggestions?

When i tried to execute the command "c:\windows blablah". It just said "the bcdboot.exe command line tool is used to copy critical boot files to the system partition and to create a new system bcd store." It then just gave me command guides :/ Please help ☹️

When i type the “bcdboot c:\windows /l en-us /s z: /f bios” (all the assigned drives are correct, i double checked), what appears is the description of what a BCDBOOT Fil creation and repair tool is complete with examples on how to write them.

I messed up Windows trying to install Ubuntu on a Bmax(I couldn't because of some boot constraint Anyway I than remove Ubuntu but now Windows 11 don't boot. I tried like you said and all works fine but still got this error BFSVC: Unable to open file C:\Windows\boot\Resources\BOOTERS.DLL for read because the file or path does not exist Error: Failed to validate boot manager checksum (C:\Windows\boot\EFI\bootmgw.efi)| Error code = 0xc1 Any idea? 4 days have been stuck on copying files done everything and nothing's working. My local disk c is on the disply but no fs. And windows is only in dir x:

Dude - If you are referring to same disk and volumes have disappeared when trying list volume in diskpart. Then it is a bad sign, you have little chances of data recovery. Hi I recently cloned my old hdd ( which is gpt drive) to a new Nvme drive ( which is also gpt and both are 1 TB size). I used macrium reflect and clone was successfully completed without any errors. However I cannot boot from the new Nvme drive. I tried changing the boot order in my BIOS but it doesn't boot and runs into the blue screen with the recovery options everytime I select it in boot order. Will methods shown on your tutorial help me to fix my drive? I didn't get any error message when booting though (messages you shown in the beginning of the tutorial). Your tutorial is the only one I could understand. Please help.

For example, I unchecked the (remote regestry) and stopped (windows update) and made the processor on 2 instead of 1. So, unfortunately the pc couldn't boot or reboot anymore. Again, I took some fixing steps from youtube, because (start repair) and (restore the pc) couldn't be done anymore. I found that the only way that can fix the problem is to use the CMD attempt . So, I did the correct steps, but the system cannot recognize the path ( D:> cd /windows/system32/config), that I never could fix my pc. Would you please, help me to fix the problem? In my case I have 2 recovery partitions and I can't enable reagentc or boot into safe mode. And when I type bootrec it says it's a invalid command. Please help. Edit: also advance startup only shows UEFI and doesn't have any other options.

Just want to say, if anyone has the bcdboot issue still after using diskpart. Make sure you are using the right slash in c:\windows because my win10 cd defaulted as a UK keyboard and my \ key wasn't working properly on my US keyboard .. c:/windows will error every time! So select the correct keyboard layout, or copy and paste a \ from somewhere on the screen. :)

Thanks a bunch I accidentally accepted a Windows 11 upgrade and it caused my computer to enter an automatic repair boot loop, after this video I was able to figure out that previously my windows was installed on my 256gb nvme but after the upgrade it installed it on my 1TB nvme instead. So I just had to go into the BIOS/UEFI and adjust the boot order of my drives and I booted into Windows 11 with no issues

Hey! Today my PC with Win11 started to update and Windows doesn't run after reboot. It is trying automatic recover, but no result. Safe mode doesn't work also.
I'm trying your method, for me it looks like bcdboot F:\Windows /s H: /f All, and it started to move but after "Creating Resume object" I have 2 errors:

bfsvc error: failed to populate bcd store status c0000225
What am I doing wrong?
P.S. I also have 2 hidden NTFS volumes besides 1 FAT32 volume which I chose for recovering, one of them has label "recove.." don't know what s this.

Thank you! I had windows startup errors after SSD clone. Bcdboot command worked on me. Tried it before with C:\windows, but it didn't work, then found out windows can be on another volume, followed your steps to find right volume where windows is and then found out that it is on D: for some reason. Then I just ran bcdboot command with right paths and now I'm typing this from working windows.
Next to my Volume 0 and Volume 1 where Windows should be under Ltr column there is no any letter (C, D...) so I don't know how to select it and execute these commands. Any help there?
Hope you are checking using list volume?
if yes are you getting other details like fs(file system), type, size, status, info?
If yes, please try to assign drive letter manually

This did not work for me as I still can not launch windows 10. However, in your command for the GPT structure bcdboot C:|Windows /l en-us /s Z: /f UEFI /v, I get an extra message at the end where you didn't. The extra message is BFSVC: Setting {default} to {db198ff3-cedb-11ea-a807-f48964c423e3}. Prior to this message, 5 messages up it set default to ..Setting {default} to {f968be43-5cf8-11ef-b898-86368f00e120}. So, in my case it's setting/changing the {default} value twice, whereas for you, it only set {default} value once. Please advise. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. I'm not getting a boot error but I am getting a PXE61 media test failure. SSD was a working drive until I had someone load a software package onto it. I have confirmed the drive is now GPT and I need MBR. I used disk genius to successfully change it to MBR. I still get the PXE61 error. I don't get the BCDBOOT error. superb job, learning curve was excellent, and scripting the commands on the side the best i've seen and really appreciated - i did watch all 3 videos.
OK, now for my challenge that still remains: my win10 is legacy bios-64bit, S: is the system reserved @100mb, and C: is windows @110gb. i executed [ bcdboot C:\Windows /l en-US /s S: /f bios ] and the response was [ boot files successfully created ]. from dir S:\ i find
EFI [not sure why the EFI is there?]
0 files 0 bytes
1 dir 40,701,952 bytes free
i execute successfully [ bootrec /fixmbr ]
but both [ bootrec /fixboot and /rebuildbcd ] fail with [ element not found ]
now, in building a WinPE usb, when i got to begin executing bootrec, i did NOT have a bootrec command. With another excellent video showing how to add the bootrec command, the WinPE usb was rebuilt by capturing a full boot.wim from the win10 ISO file and re-running the WinPE usb creation using the full boot.wim file.
now i am lost. i did notice that 1 tutorial took a step to format what would be my S:, and then somehow it got rebuilt, but i am not sure what that achieves or how to recover if i screw that up?
is this situation 'unique'? or is there yet possibly a 4th video on this challenge?
in any event, i learned a lot and thanks for your work
Friend - Looks like you have followed many steps from internet, mix of solutions relevant to bios and efi. What I suggest is take some time and view these videos.
Based on having * nor not having * in diskpart, first decide disk type of the disk where your OS drive is there (OS drive is mostly c:).
Then follow the steps relevant to that, I have mostly shown steps for both in all my videos.
As long as you have not formatted OS drive, you can get your system back for 100%, even though you have formatted/corrupted any other drives/partitions.

Now i can't enable secure boot if enable i can't boot to window and the old broken boot manager is still there although i deleted through bios maybe i missed some step but it's okay i will search how to fix it later not big problem i can wait.

When i tried to execute the command "c:\windows blablah".
It just said "the bcdboot.exe command line tool is used to copy critical boot files to the system partition and to create a new system bcd store."
It then just gave me command guides :/

When i type the “bcdboot c:\windows /l en-us /s z: /f bios” (all the assigned drives are correct, i double checked), what appears is the description of what a BCDBOOT Fil creation and repair tool is complete with examples on how to write them.

I messed up Windows trying to install Ubuntu on a Bmax(I couldn't because of some boot constraint
Anyway I than remove Ubuntu but now Windows 11 don't boot.
I tried like you said and all works fine but still got this error
BFSVC: Unable to open file C:\Windows\boot\Resources\BOOTERS.DLL for read because the file or path does not exist
Error: Failed to validate boot manager checksum (C:\Windows\boot\EFI\bootmgw.efi)| Error code = 0xc1

Dude - Pls do not look at FAT first.
Look for * under gpt against the disk concerned. I explained this very clearly.

I followed it all. and it worked so far. should I now go back and do bootrec commands or will that mess this up?
I mean the bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /fixboot

2 weeks ago I had 4 volumes, I managed to start the PC when I had problems, but today it happened again and now I only have 1 volume, all the videos I've seen I have no success with CMD, any code always fails, is that the problem is inside the pc and i need to open it? I have a project with more than 100 hours, I don't want to lose it!
Dude - If you are referring to same disk and volumes have disappeared when trying list volume in diskpart.
Then it is a bad sign, you have little chances of data recovery.
One thing i could suggest is remove the disk from computer, attach to another working computer as data disk. Follow below video to try forensic data recovery.

Hi I recently cloned my old hdd ( which is gpt drive) to a new Nvme drive ( which is also gpt and both are 1 TB size). I used macrium reflect and clone was successfully completed without any errors. However I cannot boot from the new Nvme drive. I tried changing the boot order in my BIOS but it doesn't boot and runs into the blue screen with the recovery options everytime I select it in boot order. Will methods shown on your tutorial help me to fix my drive? I didn't get any error message when booting though (messages you shown in the beginning of the tutorial). Your tutorial is the only one I could understand. Please help.

Hello sir ...
My pc is Sony vio 64bit, and has windows 7 ultimate. I have tried to fast my pc by changing some settings taken from youtube videos.
For example, I unchecked the (remote regestry) and stopped (windows update) and made the processor on 2 instead of 1. So, unfortunately the pc couldn't boot or reboot anymore.
Again, I took some fixing steps from youtube, because (start repair) and (restore the pc) couldn't be done anymore. I found that the only way that can fix the problem is to use the CMD attempt .
So, I did the correct steps, but the system cannot recognize the path ( D:> cd /windows/system32/config), that I never could fix my pc.
Would you please, help me to fix the problem? Even if by remote assistant or whatever you prefer ?

Dude - If you do not so much interested in the files in your PC. then you can try installing fresh OS, it could be windows again or Linux, both should work fine.

In my case I have 2 recovery partitions and I can't enable reagentc or boot into safe mode. And when I type bootrec it says it's a invalid command. Please help. Edit: also advance startup only shows UEFI and doesn't have any other options.

Hi, Thanks for the great video. I have managed to get a bit further down the track but am stuck at bfsvc error: could not open bcd template store status = [c000015c]. I have formatted the fat32 partition but get the same error. I hope you can help with this. I can't seem to get any info on the status = [c000015c], so I am stumped..
