@@chrisbeach423 I don't think so, I think he was geniune. Rick was a completely different person with Morgan and the saviors, plus he'd just lost his son not more that a couple of days prior. In this scene I think Rick meant every word. I think the 'Liar' was directed at Rick saying that they can all change, coming from the fact that from Season 3, Rick had been basically a 'take no chances' dictator, into the group being led by a council of sorts, him allowing people to come in, like Woodbury. The Governor hadn't changed, he went right back to who he was at his core. 4x08 Rick: We all can change... Governon: Liar... **killed Hershell** 8x14 Savior: You said... We cold've lived after... After thi-- Rick: I lied. **killed Savior**
THe governor was an asshole for no reason. Blamed Rick for shit he had nothing to do with. The Saviors and Negan were extortionists and mass murderers. The apocalyptic version of the mob.
Governor seems insecure, specially here. Almost the same with Negan, he tries to sound macho "It is, we both know it" and all the other goofy lines he's got.
His bad side was his ego. He believes there is no way else besides absolute dictatorship, so he assumes everything done to him was by Rick, which is why he was shocked that they had a council, and still had insisted that Rick be there. Brian really believed that they were evil, that when they showed their mercy and their care and compassion, Brian was angry, and just wanted to kill them. Rick had made a functioning society for Brian’s people and Brian wanted vengeance for it
It's interesting to think about what would have happened had the Governor accepted the deal. He came so close. The prison wouldn't have been destroyed, they would never have gone to Alexandria and met Negan, Abraham or anyone like that. Carol wouldn't have come back and would likely have never seen any of her friends again. Carl, Glenn, Beth, Tyreese and Bob would have all still been alive. Whilst it still would have been tough still, they came really close to putting aside their differences and being able to live in peace. The Governor's decision here affected so much of the show afterwards.
I disagree with this because I still believe they would have ventured out for supplies and found Negan's group and Alexandria. If Governor actually teamed up with Rick they would have easily defeated him. I know this because you saw how easy it was for Governor to get large groups people to follow him that combined with Rick's family and survival skills they could literally destroy any group that threatened them
Governor's biggest mistake : He had a strong and a weak hostage present. He killed the weak one, while the strong one escaped and ended up stabbing him through the chest with a sword. Bad decision. :)
He wanted maximum impact, he knew hershel had daughters and was one of the most beloved in the group. Killing michonne like that wouldnt have had the same impact since she was relatively new to the group and was not related to anyone by blood.
In the comic book the governor cuts ricks arm off from the start. Later Michonne tortures him with a blow torch, cuts his arm off, cuts his dick almost halfway off, burns his cut stubs with a torch. Because he raped her like 7 times there shouldn't have been talking here
@Paul Mathew with the exception of those that left, the saviors and the communities didn't need to be uncivilized to make it, but had to be the opposite, and the societies advanced and thrived because of it.
I'm a wannabe filmmaker and my biggest wish is to one day cast Andrew Lincoln...in anything, I don't care. That guy is the most underrated actor of his era. How he never became a leading man in Hollywood is just beyond me.
Fucking facts 🔥🔥 he is absolutely incredible. I was an aspiring actor years ago and I wrote a letter to Andrew stating such and he sent me an autograph picture that said “good luck with your acting, maybe we’ll get to work together one day.” One of the coolest moments of my life and it’s one of my most prized possessions
That moment where Hershel is proud to have Rick as the group’s leader, taking care of his daughters and the group, and offering peace to everyone. RIP Hershel and actor Scott Wilson.
Given what Rick went through up to this point- having to lose his best friend, losing his wife, and the ups and downs of leadership- it’s honestly amazing that the majority of his humanity was still intact. That takes strength, honestly.
The best detail was in the end when the walker that storms the fires of the prison was the irish lady who stabbed herself in the first episode I believe
There was no way that the governor and Rick were gonna be with each other. Too many things have happened with each other. Glenn and Maggie, Daryl. and Michonne has already happened between them
MrAlex87 it wasn’t small. If she wouldn’t have found Oceanside or was killed in the episode where she found all them and didn’t escape death then the final battle at hilltop would have gone differently and everyone there would have been killed by the saviors.
The sad part is that the Governor's redemption episode was among my top 3 episodes in the entire series. They really could've lived together. Forgiveness is a lot harder than revenge but far more rewarding.
Huge round of applause to David Morrissey. Phenomenal acting all around and did very well at making us hate him. I miss seeing him on screen and it gives me all the more reason to go back and watch what is one of the best seasons of the entire franchise hands down.
Blamer Blaze well Rick and CO lost Hershel (which was a huge loss) and the prison which was huge as well but the Governor lost everything again but he lost his life this final time. Rick found his family again at Terminus and he realized from this battle how important his family was to him and it wasn’t just about him keeping Carl and Judith alive through this nightmare and the Governor and Shane helped shape Rick into the savage killer we all came to life.
But you're forgetting one important aspect to it with your biased pacifism; Rick and his group had no choice. War isn't always a choice. War is done upon you.
@@TheStraightestWhitest Pacifism implies that Rick allowed them to kick them out of the prison and that violence is never the answer even defensively. The governor held his people hostage and they tried to work out an agreement. Once he started killing they shot back and killed them. The point is war cost the governor's group everything when they could have had something and it ultimately hurt Ricks group as well because of it.
@@J10005 I don't disagree with that, but that's not what OP said. OP said that war never has any victors, which is nonsense. War is usually waged because it is so profitable. Just because it wasn't this time doesn't mean it's always a losing game. Violence can solve a lot of things. It solved The Governor.
hated every single instance where he tried to act like the zombies weren't dead people animated. Couldn't stand the cringey massive cope of it all. This coming from someone who watched someone die as i could do absolutely nothing about it. I didn't cope, i faced the truth of it all and found a way to move past it relatively easy.
Most say Negan would destroy Governor, however, the more I look back at Governors badass moments, it makes me think twice. I think Governor could take on Negan.
The most unrealistic thing in the show was these people with the Governor not simply saying 'screw you' and taking the offer. They were portrayed as normal people looking for shelter, so why the heck would they still fight after that speech?
in times of chaos and fear, people tend to flock towards the strong and hard men despite the huge flaws they posess. The (false) sense of security that this fact provides has a huge appeal. On top of that, you've got a tank crew to boost your confidence and you've been told horrible things about the people in the prison.
i’m with you. even though we as people conform a lot and look for a leader… and they were scared and wanted shelter, they had power in numbers. although at the point where governor pulled out the sword i prob wouldn’t wanna f with him.
you would think that at first, but this is exactly what happens in real life, think about how many people have died in history fighting each other over pointless wars started by bad and corrupt leaders
Man, I truly love this scene. The way Rick handled the situation is something we all can grow from. He humbled himself for the love of the people he felt responsible for. He could've gotten emotional and flew off the handle. But he took the time to think of the best solution for not just him, but for everyone. Even his enemy. Herschel's smile was representative of how much he admired Rick in that moment. Hats off to the writer(s) of this scene👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
This would've gone so much better if Rick had called someone from Woodbury out to talk. And brought up the fact that Philip murdered his own people and thats why he was alone
I just realized some of these actors were in ARROW seasons 5 and 6. Dinah "Black Canary" S5-6 (Taras gf on TWD), Ricardo Diaz S6 (governor right hand man), you got Tyrese who was a mafia boss in beginning of season 5 of arrow, and The governors girl/Taras sister Lily who plays (Layla Michaels) on Arrow.
Andrew Lincoln you've earned the title of favorite zombie protagonist. You make me tear up everytime in this scene. Such heartfelt emotions here. You give me the feels. I'll be so sad if your movies don't come out. TWD isn't the same without you & Carl. Started reading the comics in 2006. I'm waiting...

Governor seems insecure, specially here. Almost the same with Negan, he tries to sound macho "It is, we both know it" and all the other goofy lines he's got.
He's the most pathetic one.
@@ClaytonTheCracker Doesn't change the fact that the Government was the goat
I know this because you saw how easy it was for Governor to get large groups people to follow him that combined with Rick's family and survival skills they could literally destroy any group that threatened them
@@vincentmartinez8241 I agree
this would make a great “what if” episode if kirkman and the crew ever decided to take a page from marvel.
The Butterfly effect.
Alexandria would have been killed off by the wolves, a horde, under The saviors

In the comic book the governor cuts ricks arm off from the start. Later Michonne tortures him with a blow torch, cuts his arm off, cuts his dick almost halfway off, burns his cut stubs with a torch. Because he raped her like 7 times there shouldn't have been talking here
Early season 4 rick: "We can all live together in peace"
Late season 4 rick: *rips out a man's throat with his teeth*

Fucking facts 🔥🔥 he is absolutely incredible. I was an aspiring actor years ago and I wrote a letter to Andrew stating such and he sent me an autograph picture that said “good luck with your acting, maybe we’ll get to work together one day.” One of the coolest moments of my life and it’s one of my most prized possessions
I hope to see one of your films out there one day

That moment where Hershel is proud to have Rick as the group’s leader, taking care of his daughters and the group, and offering peace to everyone. RIP Hershel and actor Scott Wilson.
Given what Rick went through up to this point- having to lose his best friend, losing his wife, and the ups and downs of leadership- it’s honestly amazing that the majority of his humanity was still intact. That takes strength, honestly.

In an alternate universe, the Governor's men and Rick's men have created out of the prison the largest olive farm in the post-apocolypse world.
One of the most intense and well acted scenes of this show.
The best detail was in the end when the walker that storms the fires of the prison was the irish lady who stabbed herself in the first episode I believe

Huge round of applause to David Morrissey. Phenomenal acting all around and did very well at making us hate him. I miss seeing him on screen and it gives me all the more reason to go back and watch what is one of the best seasons of the entire franchise hands down.
Just shows u war has no winners. Literally everybody lost everything on this day. Violence shows nothing
Hershel was the best character on this show, loved watching every scene with him in it.

We Can Olive Together.
The most unrealistic thing in the show was these people with the Governor not simply saying 'screw you' and taking the offer. They were portrayed as normal people looking for shelter, so why the heck would they still fight after that speech?
Because the Governor became a brutal Dicator
You need understand what conformity is then
in times of chaos and fear, people tend to flock towards the strong and hard men despite the huge flaws they posess.
