    Lead acid batteries do not like to be discharged. They will last a lot longer if you can keep them charged fully.
    Always charge your Lead acid batteries every night.
    It takes about eight hours+ to properly charge Lead acid batteries. When the green light on most wheelchair chargers comes on that does not indicate that the batteries are charged.
    If you're a very heavy user try and charge for an hour or so during the day.
    The fastest way to destroy Lead acid batteries is to discharge them and leave them flat.
    If you are not going to use your chair for a few weeks its still better to keep it charged. Maybe once a week depending on your chairs self discharge rate.
    If you are not going to use your chair for a few months its best to fully charge them then disconnect the them. You will still need to charge them every three months.
    Lithium batteries are different.

    Jazzy 2 scooter worked completely fine. Parents stored it in bedroom and let the batteries die. Used a volt meter and determined no voltage on batteries. try taking the battery's out and charge them with a 12v charger, take a good car battery and hook the charger up to it first, then jump the good battery to the dead battery, ive had to use this trick with some of the newer "smart" chargers, they won't recognize a dead battery needing a charge, thinks its bad regardless.

    batteries left on the floor lose charge faster because the battery uses its own energy to create heat to keep itself at a nominal temperature. and the floor acts like a heat sync

    • @astrosmell
      @astrosmell  Před 3 lety +1

      That is an old wives tale. The modern batteries do not "lose charge" when stored on the concrete. We have heard that one as well. It came from a time long ago when battery cases were made of wood.

    • @jimmieroan9881
      @jimmieroan9881 Před 2 lety

      @@astrosmell thanks for telling it, i'm so old that back in the old days we always put a battery on a block of wood or plastic, simply because the battery material would usually collect moisture and dirt, so voltage would escape down the side of the battery to the floor. with newer technology the cases don't do that. old habits die hard so i still put my battery's on something other than a cement floor, maybe i just feel i need the exercise. good video thanks for sharing

      Batteries for automobiles are designed to deliver cranking Amps when starting your vehicle. They are maintained full constantly by your vehicles alternator and do not fare well under a constant drain that your scooter demands. You need a deep cycle battery 🔋 for scooters, trolling motors, RV systems etc. Preferably one with chemistry that is non spillable such as AGM , GEL or lithium.
