    If your mobility scooter or power wheelchair won't hold a charge, you might want to watch this video to troubleshoot the batteries. Checking to see if your mobility scooter batteries have gone bad is pretty easy to do, all you need is a voltage meter. You'll also need to know what type of batteries your scooter has. Most mobility scooters and power wheelchairs use 2, 12-volt batteries which together, work with 24-volt motors.
    To test your batteries, make sure the unit is fully charged, and then grab your voltage meter. Use the probes on your voltage meter to get a read on the meter. Insert the probes into 2 of the 3 holes on the charging port until you get a steady reading. Once your voltage is steady, go ahead and start to move the unit using the throttle lever. If your voltage is staying close to the sale level that it is when its not moving, that is good. If you notice the voltage drops substantially when you move the unit, that means the batteries are not able to work well under load.
    Most scooter batteries should read out to around 12.5 volts each. When testing the voltage on a charging port, you should get about 25 volts on a full charge.

    I have a ? The way I understand it is some chargers keep charging even after the battery is charged , which damages the battery. Are all mobility scooter chargers float chargers also? One thing I’ve bought that seemed to help me was a Christmas light timer just cover the sensor for light to dusk pick the hours then I shuts off. The batteries are expensive I don’t want to replace them

    Hello. I just picked up a used gogo traveler. Both batteries where pretty dead and would not charge. So I took the box apart and charge them seperate on 12v and got full charges to test the scooter. I will be using New batteries. My problem and what I was told by the owner. When pressing the lever. When you go pass 1/4 of the way. The motor disengages and goes to a neutral. release the lever hear a click try again. Barely use the lever it moves forward. But go more than that it shuts down. What am I looking for???

      You need a technician, this is not something you can just easily solve on your own. You may need to get a new controller or throttle module.

      It's best to do a load test as shown in the video. That will pretty much help you find out if you're batteries are still good. If you're using Sealed Lead Acid batteries and it's already a few years old, it's probably time to change it. Thanks for watching our video and commenting!

      @@MobilityDirect Thank you , it is tricky as the load test for 1/2 mile with middle speed, load reading start 25.4v to 24.3v. the battery acid sealed 9 month old used in house only short distance very little use. the battery read 25 after load test which confused me to thing battery is ok and controller joystick is the problem. I just replace joystick controller as old one was giving error 7 times flashing code which indicate joystick controller. do you think current joystick controller can give error in reading battery charge less than the actual as it reads just first 2 lights red and orange while battery measured full 25v and the charger indicate full charged battery. . thank you again

So then I continue to drop rapidly. I have used different chargers and same thing happens. So hoping you can help me figure this out.

    I have a Q600 with relatively new batteries I purchased in March of 2022. The charger indicates it is fully charged but the controller interface appears to be at about 50%. Should I let it charge even though it says fully charged? Also under load test it varied from about 23.8v (FULL Charge) to 22.9. Does that indicate enough variance to be a problem?

    @cliffbird5016 Před 2 lety +1

    depending on the battery they usualy only last 3 to 5 years. so have to replace them anyway.
    My batteries look like their starting to go and they r less than 2 years old. should get 35 miles out of 1 charge but now its more like 10 miles. ive also noticed the speed drops as well as soon as 1 bar is gone out of the 6. my scooter has a digital speedo so can see how fast im going. Even though its supposed to be restriced to 8mph when i 1st got it brand new it was doing 13mph. now its 8mph til the 1st bar goes then it drops to 7mph. before even when the battery was nearly dead the speed didnt drop.
    lots of dif advice out there. some say charge the batteries after every trip even if its only a 20 min charge. others say dont charge them till the battery is nearly dead. others say charge them up over night even if u didnt use the scooter that day. prob is bateries have life cycles. the more often u charge them the quicker they fail. they can only be charged a set number if times before they start to fail.
    It costs more but ur better off going for the higher amp battery's as they last longer if their is an option. like my last scooter had 50mah batteries and that could do 30 miles on 1 charge. but when they went i couldnt afford those batteries so got the normal batteries for that scoooter which were 30mAh and they only did 30 miles on a charge. my current scooter has 75mah as standard 100 as optional extra.
    another thing is u need to keep the batteries warm but not too warm as that effects their performance. IE during the winter they will go flat faster and less speed. same during the summer if it's a hot day. optimal temps r around 20c for best range and speed.
