Hey! I'm Alanna - a twenty-something documenting my life as a Canadian living in England.
I share the ups and downs of an expat living abroad and what it's really like living in the UK. It's not always easy, but there's been so many wonderful experiences, too. I post a CZcams video every Tuesday and an additional video every Saturday on my Patreon account. I also livestream every Wednesday and Sunday at 6:30pm GMT on Twitch.

The next person to whine about ice....
But now you know!
Oh she knows.
It's personal preference if you want ice or not. Me personally, refuse to have ice in my Whiskey. For me, it waters it down, if I'm paying top dollar for a bottle of Scotland's finest, I'm getting my monies worth lol. Don't listen to 'em haters who are probably pissed off they didn't get any free bottles lol.
Adventures and Naps you don’t put ice in your whisky
Drink it how you like it. Snobs will always cry about something.
My brother loves his whiskey
He emigrated to Canada some years back
The first thing he saw when he got of the plane was a sign saying drink Canada dry
My sister in law says he's been complying with that request for the last five years
Keep smiling
We have Alanna and 4 bottles of whiskey. What could possibly go wrong? I am glued to the screen.
Ditto lol
Scotch Whisky not Whiskey!
WHAHAAhahahahahaha, that Laphroaig reaction! I was waiting for that reaction. Some people love that stuff.
Someone once asked me what whisky is like. I said it's like face-planting into a burning peat bog, but the 18-year-old Glenfiddich and Glenlivet are like face-planting into a pool of honey in a burning peat bog and 18-year-old Glenmorangie is like kissing someone who recently face-planted into a burning peat bog.
Laphroaig is like being knocked face-dirst into a heap of kippers in a burning peat bog with a barrel of kippers and then having it emptied over you and set on fire.
2:46 I love the "I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing" disclaimer :)
But hou could argue that she knows that she doesnt know what she's doing and therefore does🤔
12:57 burps, rolls her eyes, gets hick ups and thinks to her self: I've still got stuff to do! Like another Whiskey video right after this one. So cute😂😂
I love this Canadian. I could watch Alanna's videos all day long. She is witty and entertaining.
Her next video... What junk do I keep under the sofa? :)
I've been wondering that for weeks 😂👍
@@ssaunders2k Me? Think years!!!
Chess board
That's one we'd all love to see. Come on Alanna "what junk do I keep under the sofa?" is needed soon.
You have things to do later and your drinking whisky in the day 😂😂 good luck with that
As usual, you've put a smile on my face, can't wait for the next one 😁👍
Whisky is the traditional spelling and used everywhere except Ireland (and NI) and The USA, where it's spelt "Whiskey".
This has to be one of my favourites to watch!
Excellent work my friend 👍😊🥃
After a long, bad day at work, this was just what I needed. Put a smile on my face.
Hi Alanna! Fun video. :) The part that cracked me was when you washed away the taste of Laphroaig with Johnny Walker Green Label. XD
Thank you for making me smile with another upload! :D I have just reached out to my Whiskey cupboard to have a cheeky tipple! You're a bad influence Alana! ;) Haha. Good day to you x
Very much up to your usual high standards of entertainment and I think I’m now understanding your ranking system.
Always amusing and never disappointed.
Hi, Alanna, that was brilliant, you don't need alcohol to be entertaining you are a natural at doing this. Your face when a taste is unexpected is so expressive. I'm not an expert on whisky, I think its revolting stuff, but this was so good. I love the way you need to take an extra taste just to confirm which you like best. I'll put a word in for supporting you on Patreon, please everyone do this, it costs very little, you'll get another Alanna video each week and it rewards an enormously talented person. Looking forward to your next video soon.
Laphroaig is one of my all-time favorite whiskys.
Thanks again for making me laugh this Tuesday!
Here's to alcohol: the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems. Homer Simpson
I'll drink to that!
Mary M 😂
Loved the little hiccup when holding the bottles up. Remember horses sweat, men perspire, Allana only glows 😊
Raymonda . Creep!
"I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing".. just marvelous, so funny. Thanks 🍻🍷👍
ha ha - brilliant Alanna, making it entertaining and funny 😂👍 Cheers!
Out of that lot, I only like the Laphroaig. Love that Peaty taste
That's one of the few notes I hate in a Whisky.
I find it extremely unpleasant, but I guess that means more for you! :D
Have you tried Ardbeg? They make some seriously peaty whiskies like Corryvreckan and Uigeadail, which at £50+ a bottle aren't exactly cheap, but they're worth it. The basic 10 year-old Ardbeg is pretty impressive, too.
Do you have a boyfriend called Pete?
@@ftumschk I have tried Ardbeg, love it
The best whisky is whatever the one you're drinking
Slainte! 🥃
😂😂you've had your adventures now time for the nap, good luck on getting anything else done. Great vid 👍😁
My late Dad always drank Whisky and loved single malt Glen Morangie and he hated Laphroaig. I, on the other hand, love Laphroaig and other Islay malts. You should try Speyside malts I think you'll love them.
This has put a smile on my face.
haha! another crazy vid my friend! keep them coming please! :D
Very good video! Please keep on with the whisky drinking hobby, you have much to discover and enjoy! It's important to drink what you like and enjoy it.
This Canadian is hardcore. Just sitting sippin' all her Brit whiskies in the Middle of the day 😂
Scottish whiskie not British whiskies ya fanny
Dean Martin Scotland not part of the landmass that is the British isles?
@@tony1kenobi468 I'm sure you'll have a most enjoyable time articulating that sentiment to the good folk of Easterhouse and The Raploch. Please post the holiday snaps, as they're bound to be charming, exotic and luxurious
@@Cruithneach Is Scotland not part of the British Isles?
@@tony1kenobi468 I didn't say that, Scotland is, just as Ireland is. The point is that many of us are ambivalent at being called British and particularly irked at the British appellation being applied to something that is quintessentially Scottish. However, as I say, feel free to visit the aforementioned areas and employ your favoured designation with gay abandon; much mirth is bound to ensue
Nice video Alanna, keep them coming 🙂
Absolutely love your drinking Videos, so funny hun! 🥰
Howdey neighbour! I don’t drink but I’m stilled glued to the screen. I’d give this video 10 out of 10 cool Canadians.
Excellent video as always Alana! Just two request one, more live blogs and two, what you hiding under the sofa😁
Hi Alanna, I hope you’ve had a good day.
After four shots of whiskey I'm sure she will.
"I've got stuff to do later." Proceeds to drink alkyhol for two videos. Hahahaha! If only more people were like you.
Even though I don't drink, I love hearing your thoughts and descriptions of all these drinks.
Lol very funny , your face on the last one 🤣 cheers 👌
You were so cute after trying that funny tasting Laphroaig, made me smile.
LOL! The moment I saw the Laphroaig I audibly gasped and startled the cat. I knew what was coming and I agree with you absolutely. Nasty.
I love Laphroaig. .it's a beautiful peaty, smoky and sweet single malt.
You should do single malts. They are supposed to be much better. More expensive but you can get samplers so you don't have to buy full bottles. Single malts can be very different while blends are much more likely to taste similar.
Obviously you have never tried Chivas regal extra which although a blend tastes like angels dancing on your tongue
I love your quirkiness. I love your disproportionate scoring system. I love your lack of whisky knowledge. This video is perfect.
Comparing fractions when the denominator keeps changing. LOVE IT. That made me giggle.
Perfect video?
@@konradolczak3843 She makes me laugh, if its perfect then so be it lol :)
I'm just popping out for a swift Shackleton, I may be some time.
T'was Lawrence Oates that said "I may be some time" not Ernest Shackleton.
Captain Oates said that
Yep. Why I didn't say, "I'm just popping out to grab my Oats," I have no idea!? Perhaps I had been drinking, again? Silly girl, eh! :-D xXx
Another great video. My hubby could talk to you about whisky for hours. He describes the last one like tasting a bonfire. Aldi has a nice one he says. X
I enjoy the running commentary on the level of sweat. Always good to know such things...
Good luck with that!! Looks like Patreons might just get a video of a couch, an out of focus leg and slurred mumbles from the bottom of the screen. Was nice watching the onset of tipsyness :-)
After doing the same on Patreon you'll sleep well, Hic !!!
Alana, I drink Real Ale. Maybe you could try several Real Ale's in a future video.
I think at the end of this Your going to be Blended Alana.. lol, hope you do more :) great fun as always
Oh Alanna the sacrifices you make for your channel. I mean having to drink all that whisky. ;P
These are the videos I enjoy!
Man, I missed the party (a bad week)! Ah, So good to see something funny! Maybe do a Canadian beer one next, when you go there, whiles smoking a bong (to pallet cleans, lol);) Chin-chin ol’ bean :D
Love the way you were hugging those bottles....Alana is there something you're not telling us??😱
Okay I'm back for more, Well I would have been anyway but the whisky got me even more excited.
Great video Alanna, from a whisky/Alanna lover.....
PS, I knew you wouldn't like the Laphroaig, it's a bit "Full on" and thats just fine!
Enjoyed your video and there's so many whiskeys still to try.....
Bloody Canadians, coming over here, sweating into our atmosphere. 😂
Another interesting video, thank you. I'm sure some have already mentioned that "blended" is a very different drink to a "single" malt; I prefer blended but when people give Scotch as a present, they always give a single malt, 'cos they don't know. Well done, very funny at 13 minutes.
I am not a detective or have superpowers of detection but (and I may be wrong) where you perchance, maybe slightly, possibly sweaty when you made this video ;)
Maybe most of UK houses/ apartments don’t have air conditioners.
Air con shmair con
@@robertewalt7789 Not usually needed, offices and shops may haver them though
Top marks for pronouncing "Laphroaig" (six out of six words!) and nine out of eight good expressions for that look when you were waiting for the motobike to go away :)
Love the Green Label myself. Don’t think you should have had ice personally, but each to their own. Anyway, cheers to you Alanna, keep up the good work.
Another video from our favourite Canadian
(features some serious two-handed drinking!) :)
Hope you'll have a calendar of your best thumbnail pics ready for Christmas! Not even joking!!
A tip. Whenever drinking any spirit straight. Take a breath in, then sip the drink and then breathe out. You’ll find the burning sensation is virtually non existent 👍🏻
Top vid as always.
We like what we like and two fingers to being told what we are supposed to like or being told how to eat n drink it. Carry on enjoying what you enjoy 😁👍
Don't drink Whisky neat or with ice, mix with a small amount of ambient temperature water - it opens up the flavour profile. I use about 1/4 the amount of water, do it to taste. Aged single malts tend to have more character. Less burn obviously too. Love how each bottle had it's own rating scale 😂
Love your videos so much!!
I am going, I am going where streams of whiskey are flowing.
Great video loved it.
My GF puts frozen grapes in hers so not to alter the taste but still keep it chilled.
That's a good idea for chilling a drink without watering it down. Changing the temperature will still change the flavours experienced. If you've ever tasted a warm can of Coke, you would know that.
Yep, it was ridiculous here about a week & a half back-they were saying that I think the Thursday was the hottest day of the year, but for me it was the day before that felt the hottest in Thanet.
Laphroaig is in a different class to the others as it is a single malt. Avoid the ice.
It is so nice on a cold, rainy day which England and Scotland have a lot of. It warms you right up. I can't imagine drinking it on a scorching summer day though. I would not like it either.
Its cold and damp up here, warm and peaty is good
@@shlibbermacshlibber4106 I actually prefer Lagavulin 16 or Caol ila 12 but I know Laphroaig has its devoted fans.
@@quirkygal8 I concur. Laphroaig is as rough as a cat's tongue.
Laphroaig the great taste of hospital....:-) JD anyone?
Great video as always! Now we need a video with rum!
I jumped straight to the last couple of minutes on this one 😂
great vid as usual, my favourite whisky......the next one!!
You have a VERY nice friend to share his/her Scotch whiskies with you.! 10 year old Laphroaig=40-50 Pound range for a full bottle, depending on where/how you buy it.
Welcome to the amazing world of the single malt whisky. The 3 blended malts are all pretty much the same with minor variations.
Not only enduring the heat but de-hydration! Gutsy woman!
As usual great vid
Laphraoig being very peaty and smoky is exactly why I like it, but only in small amounts (with just the tiniest bit of water to dilute it, no ice).
I think it adds to the entertainment value that you don't know what you're doing or what you are talking about. You like what you like, you don't what you don't. You should read more about Shackelton and what he and his crew members on the "Endurance" went through - it's quite a story!
Love it.
I now know I'm not the only one who doesn't get the terminology. I tend to say "yeah, that's nice".
You do realise you now have to do a Rum taste test. Great video as usual. Cheers from Australia
Pirate style we hope! ☠️😂
Around the world in 80 beers
And Tequila after that
There are is some great Rum out there here in the UK
Lambs Navy
Pussers also a Royal navy rum
Kraken
Morgan's spiced
Jolly sailor
Any of these are really good.
@@chrisholland7367 Spiced rums are strictly for people who don't like the taste of rum. The spice flavours are added to mask the taste of the cheap spirit.
Brilliant again Alanna
You know Johnnie Walker Black Label is what Harrison Ford's character was drinking in Blade Runner ….. that's what got me trying it out and I love it. Excellent choice!
Another great post, very funny and the blended whisky thing, i think each year the top whisky distillers gather around and blend the top most whisky's....this is in Scotland, there is no other country that makes whisky..honest....anyway they blend the top whisky's and make a blend called Famous Grouse....then the whisky's that get left make a less good blend and so on....its what i was told, also the single malt whisky'd can taste so different. You looked great on the video, in fact you were 'glowing'.....excellent vid.
'hic'! Just perfect. A little disappointed you didn't include a Welsh or Irish Whiskey. Love the way you washed the taste of Laphroaig with a slug of Green Label. Classic, hic! As always Greetings from Liverpool. hic!
PS. With all the fans you have, why none in your room to blow cool air upon you?
Good point. Not too clued up on Irish Whiskey, but I can recommend the Welsh whisky, Penderyn.
Yes I love Irish whiskey. Never liked scotch as they are very rough tasting
I know what to get you for your birthday ... air con! I too am in Kent and that heatwave was all kinds of urrghhhhh :/ Great video though!
Ahh thank you!!
@@AdventuresAndNaps I am here because i wanted to know how Canadians/ white ppl drink with friends? At house parties
How we indians do it? Well we have some chicken for starters with dry fruits and waffers
We generally mix liquor with soda or water or on the rocks
My friend likes cheese with whiskey
Hi Alanna very amusing as always. By the way if you want a reasonably priced decent single malt scotch whisky try a Auchentoshan. Mind you that’s not easy to say after a few!
Agreed. Auchentoshan's lovely.
I know nothing about Whisky but was watching with a mate who does and when we got to last one he went "well this should be fun" he described the taste to me as drinking TCP :)
Alanna, if you get a chance in the future, try Johnnie Walker Swing (the bottle actually rocks back and forth, designed not to tip over in rough seas on a boat). I personally prefer it over the blue, and it's a quarter of the price.
So not only the whisky police out in force today but the grammar police too. You truly suffer for your art. As always, love your videos
Next video - best hangover cures😁
LOL mixing different whiskeys on a hot day is definatly a no no, HIC! lol.
By the way malt whiskey is made from fermented mash consisting of malted barley.
Ordinary whiskey is made with corn.
Good and funny vid, have a great day.✌
Coming next , Alana compares ciders sitting on a bench in the high street while shouting at the pigeons !
Good job...Hot here in Ontario as well...Ireland and the USA spell it whiskey..the rest spell is whisky....
l am learning English and I like to listen to you..everyday i understand you better. Todas was and amazing
Today was amazing
LOL, I wondered if you'd try Laphroaig. It's definitely a "Marmite" taste. I love the stuff, but each to their own.
Ah - another one of *those* videos! I wonder if you would consider doing another like this, perhaps trying some more of the single malts? Top tip: they are best explored by region rather than by name....
They found cases of MacKinlay’s whisky under the expedition huts in the Antarctic and recovered them. The Shackleton I think is based on the taste of that early 1900’s whisky.
I waited 11 mins for the Laphoraig, not disappointed 🤣🤣
The taste of a Whisky (Whisky spelt with an e is Irish Whiskey) is very much personal choice. I always drank Laphroaig or single malts when I lived in the UK because blended Whiskies always gave me a hangover! You must also remember that the same make of Whisky like Johnny Walker (Black, Green, Red and Blue) may have a different alcohol content. If I remember on the Isle of Wight there is or at least was a pub (The Wight Mouse Inn?) where you could drink a different Whisky every day of the year!
Hi Alanna,
I'm Scottish and don't have a problem with you having ice in any of them. But I will say it probably hurt the Laphroaig more as it tastes a little better when warmed up. It is the peatiest smokiest of the island whiskies I've tried. It tastes like you have licked an ashtray, I find Bowmore to be a lot nicer whilst retaining some smokiness. If you want to try more single malt whisky., if you can get them to try, I would suggest Dalmore, Glenlivet and Macallan .
Byeee
You don't need to be a whiskey expert to know what you like or dislike. Everybody has different tastes and that's cool. I'm currently trying different minerals waters. I like the Tesco own brand stuff even though its cheaper than some of the fancy brands. Taste is very subjective.
I’m not much of a spirits drinker but if I ever have Whiskey I prefer Bourbon or Jack Daniels. This was funny! Perhaps wine or beer next time! As always, great video.
Bottoms up! Great vid 👍🏼
Well done for telling the difference. Blending whiskey allows for the use of cheaper grains, and does not require the same amount of time to age. This allows a distiller to produce a blended whiskey faster, and for less money. As a result, the demand for blended whiskey is higher, despite the fact that the single malts have an obvious flavor advantage.
Hi Alana, great Vid, as always.. There's a lot of nonsense spoken about whisky, wine, beer, etc, but ice, apparently alters the flavour. Having said that, whatever floats your boat in my opinion and ignore what others say. So, a bit of info.. All Scotch whisky is malt and then there are 2 types, single malt and blended malt. Blended malt means that it is a blend of different whiskies to produce a specific flavour/taste. Single malts are as they sound, from one barrel and will have their unique flavour/taste. Single malts tend to be more expensive than blended, blended can start at £13 (Asda) and single malt start £20-25, but there is cross over and single malts can go through the roof, price wise. There are loads of single malts with varying levels of peat, generally, the darker the whisky the more peat flavour.. Anyway, find the ones that you like, your purse likes, add ice, if you want to and enjoy... Slainte
