    Hey! I'm Alanna - a twenty-something documenting my life as a Canadian living in England.
    I share the ups and downs of an expat living abroad and what it's really like living in the UK. It's not always easy, but there's been so many wonderful experiences, too. I post a CZcams video every Tuesday and an additional video every Saturday on my Patreon account. I also livestream every Wednesday and Sunday at 6:30pm GMT on Twitch.

      It's personal preference if you want ice or not. Me personally, refuse to have ice in my Whiskey. For me, it waters it down, if I'm paying top dollar for a bottle of Scotland's finest, I'm getting my monies worth lol. Don't listen to 'em haters who are probably pissed off they didn't get any free bottles lol.

    WHAHAAhahahahahaha, that Laphroaig reaction! I was waiting for that reaction. Some people love that stuff.
    Someone once asked me what whisky is like. I said it's like face-planting into a burning peat bog, but the 18-year-old Glenfiddich and Glenlivet are like face-planting into a pool of honey in a burning peat bog and 18-year-old Glenmorangie is like kissing someone who recently face-planted into a burning peat bog.
    Laphroaig is like being knocked face-dirst into a heap of kippers in a burning peat bog with a barrel of kippers and then having it emptied over you and set on fire.

    Another great post, very funny and the blended whisky thing, i think each year the top whisky distillers gather around and blend the top most whisky's....this is in Scotland, there is no other country that makes whisky..honest....anyway they blend the top whisky's and make a blend called Famous Grouse....then the whisky's that get left make a less good blend and so on....its what i was told, also the single malt whisky'd can taste so different. You looked great on the video, in fact you were 'glowing'.....excellent vid.

    Alanna, if you get a chance in the future, try Johnnie Walker Swing (the bottle actually rocks back and forth, designed not to tip over in rough seas on a boat). I personally prefer it over the blue, and it's a quarter of the price.

    The taste of a Whisky (Whisky spelt with an e is Irish Whiskey) is very much personal choice. I always drank Laphroaig or single malts when I lived in the UK because blended Whiskies always gave me a hangover! You must also remember that the same make of Whisky like Johnny Walker (Black, Green, Red and Blue) may have a different alcohol content. If I remember on the Isle of Wight there is or at least was a pub (The Wight Mouse Inn?) where you could drink a different Whisky every day of the year!

  • @stuartferguson8967

    Hi Alanna,
    I'm Scottish and don't have a problem with you having ice in any of them. But I will say it probably hurt the Laphroaig more as it tastes a little better when warmed up. It is the peatiest smokiest of the island whiskies I've tried. It tastes like you have licked an ashtray, I find Bowmore to be a lot nicer whilst retaining some smokiness. If you want to try more single malt whisky., if you can get them to try, I would suggest Dalmore, Glenlivet and Macallan .
    Byeee

    You don't need to be a whiskey expert to know what you like or dislike. Everybody has different tastes and that's cool. I'm currently trying different minerals waters. I like the Tesco own brand stuff even though its cheaper than some of the fancy brands. Taste is very subjective.

    Well done for telling the difference. Blending whiskey allows for the use of cheaper grains, and does not require the same amount of time to age. This allows a distiller to produce a blended whiskey faster, and for less money. As a result, the demand for blended whiskey is higher, despite the fact that the single malts have an obvious flavor advantage.

  • @steveellis1932
    @steveellis1932 Před 5 lety

    Hi Alana, great Vid, as always.. There's a lot of nonsense spoken about whisky, wine, beer, etc, but ice, apparently alters the flavour. Having said that, whatever floats your boat in my opinion and ignore what others say. So, a bit of info.. All Scotch whisky is malt and then there are 2 types, single malt and blended malt. Blended malt means that it is a blend of different whiskies to produce a specific flavour/taste. Single malts are as they sound, from one barrel and will have their unique flavour/taste. Single malts tend to be more expensive than blended, blended can start at £13 (Asda) and single malt start £20-25, but there is cross over and single malts can go through the roof, price wise. There are loads of single malts with varying levels of peat, generally, the darker the whisky the more peat flavour.. Anyway, find the ones that you like, your purse likes, add ice, if you want to and enjoy... Slainte
